And we’re back! It’s been a while since meebo last pushed a big release, but we’re excited to roll out one of our biggest releases yet. meebo’s been busy these last few weeks, with moving, hiring, and all the other things required to set up a new company — it’s been a tough month, trying to balance company-building tasks and feature coding. (We’ve been eating in… A LOT)
First off, our showcase: meebo user accounts! Many of you, from day one, have asked for single sign-on so you don’t have to type in all of your account information every time you log into meebo. We’ve implemented an entirely new backend system to allow you to enter one ID and log into all of your favorite IM accounts. We understand and honor the trust you place in us when you sign up, and we take it very seriously. meebo treats all of its users as friends and we would never betray your friendship.
Included in this new system is a new dialog, indicated by the new “my meebo” icon in your buddylist. Click there to retrieve your individual IM accounts — you can add and remove as many as you’d like. For those power users who have 2 AIM, 2 Yahoo, and 3 MSN accounts, this is your lucky day!
This is our first shot at user accounts, so things are still preliminary. We’ve not yet released our lost password procedure (remember them!), and you can’t change your meebo settings yet. Be patient with us and as always, feedback is awesome.
Second, we’ve managed to squash a few bugs that have been plaguing us for a while. Tooltips now correctly show times in your local timezone (we don’t all live in California =p) and they also don’t fall off the edge of the screen anymore. Thanks to Cindy and Julia for the heads up! Also, your buddy’s away messages did not update if he or she was already away, now they do! Also, thanks to Sean for tipping us to a problem where URLs sent across MSN were displayed with extra tags — that should work as expected. We also addressed the problems where maximized windows would restore when receiving messages and meebo system messages would unnecessarily blink the windows.
We tightened our UI and optimized large portions of the backend (yay scalability) so we’re hoping to see some operating improvements too. Cool new things are on their way, stay tuned!

hi, the feed for your site here doesn’t work. if you mouse over to the “entries (rss)” and “comments (rss)” at the footer, you’ll see they are prefixed with “feed:” which isn’t needed. Clicking there or copy the url to subscribe the feed won’t work. This is a flaw of the default scheme, please correct it.

This is my first comment in the forum though I have been using Meebo for quite some time now. I cant help saying this is just a fabulous effort from all of you guys over there! This new release had been just too good!

I though sometimes have a small problem. When you resize the main browser window the chat windows sometimes go up and seem to hide in below the address bar. Unfortunately they cannot be bought down or closed. I logout of Meebo and log back in. Any ideas how to stop this.

excellent work on this messenger replacement -in-a-webpage. Ever since I came across it, Ive been using it. Of course it doesn’t have all the whistles and bells yet, but when I read the blogs I get a feeling that there is a dedicated team of people behind it, wanting meebo to become the best messenger in the world.

The one-account system worked very well for me. Just as a UI tip, I’d like to note that in the “add account” dialog, the cursor in the text fields never blinks. It’d be nice it if did, so I can see where the focus is.
Since I can’t see the focus, I don’t know if this last tip is already implemented or not, but it’d be good if, after selecting a protocol in the drop-down box, the focus went straight to the first text field.

when we login into multiple accounts, i dont find any way to make one account invisible or logout of any one of the accounts. I hav to logout of all the accounts nd login again….a lot of trouble…

Hey all Meebo peeps.
Wow this is such a cool addition to the already awesome client you guys have. I am so excited about the possibilities where this could go… It would be so cool if your chat windows did not overlap though. Like if they actually bumped into eachother this is the only complaint that i have. Wow i remember in the old days using AIM Express at school…..wow so sad the thing only works 20% of the time. This works all the time!!!! OHHH YEAH!!! Ok anyway sorry for the long post.

create an option wherein we could change groups in an id…like in the view that we have groups like ‘work’ or ‘friends’ in yahoo messenger….we should be able to change…as new friends get added they may go to the wrong group like work …etc…i ve faced that.

Hey I don’t know where to properly write this to all you folks at meebo but ever since my computer’s hardrive has a slght “incident” the only way I’ve been able to get on the internet is through a portable version of firefox on my jump drive and meebo has really made staying on AIM and chatting with my frineds easier. I found that it is more like AIM than AIMexpress which is kind of funny when you think about it but anyway thanks again for helping me out.

I log in automatically to both AIM and Yahoo invisibly via MyMeebo. The status on the left side of the screen says that I am invisible on both services, but the buddy list says “I’m Available”. What’s up with that?

Yo~ I’ve found some bug… kind of bug.
I registed a new meebo user name and build some IM accounts, after logging in, though I do check the little “invisible” box in the “My Meebo” window it still show “I’m availble” in the “Buddy list” window.(Pls Notice that in the left area, after the account name, it still shows as “Invisable”)
So, is there any problem?

I have been using the site for quite sometime and find that when somebody is forwarding any file attachments, I cannot receive the same in the format that is sent. Example, if my friend sends me a word document during the chat, I receive the word document in text format in Meebo. It would be wonderful if this feature can also be include.

The sign-in for all the applications was definitely a good idea. It reminds me of OpenID, which I think is a superb idea and since I’ve been using it I’ve found it to work very, very well. People must find a way of making passwords easier. Thankfully, the browsers have caught on and provide wonderful password remembering software but it’s now the signing up process which needs to become more fully automated.

Consolidating multiple user accounts on to one platform just makes the most sense to me. Now if we can only get Skype on board life would be fgantastic. Facebook IM integration was really pleasing too!
