Earlier this year we had a hack day at Meebo. It’s a day we get to work on whatever we want, especially if it’s not related to our normal daily tasks.
So I wrote a Meebo application for Google’s Android mobile phone platform.
It ended up taking more than just one day, and I had a very minimal app working after about three days. But then the project got put on the back burner as we worked on Community IM. Days turned into weeks turned into months.
And then a few weeks ago hype started building around T-Mobile’s G1, and we decided to dust off the app and polish it up. Jim and Marcus helped out with some coding. David, Christian, and Andrew pitched in with some great design and usability advice, and Greg and Sara updated our website.
We really want to stress that this is just the first version. It doesn’t have every feature that you would look for in a full blown desktop IM application, but we thought it would be best to release it as soon
as possible, and let your suggestions guide future development.
A few key points:
* No SMS charges!
* Can run in the background
* Displays notifications in your system tray
* Just watch the demo video
Please let us know what you think! What features would you like to see? How could it be better? Who’s your favorite Looney Tune toon?
Happy IM-ing!
Mark

Are there any plans to release a native iPhone app? The web-app is a bit hard to use over an Edge connection.

up up up!

November 7th, 2008 at 12:04 am
i downloaded the app today for my g1 and it looks way better and runs better then the standard one it comes with. but still missing away message and being able to read others aways and u cant even close your convos. hope we get a update soon
November 7th, 2008 at 12:09 am
Is there any particular reason that you guys are writing android and iphone apps, but have yet to make anything for one of the most widely used operating systems on the smartphone market….WINDOWS MOBILE. Like seriously, android has been out for all of what…a month. And windows mobile has been chuggin around for YEARS now, but you still refuse to take it off the back burner? anyways, i guess i’ll just go sit in the corner with my read headed step child status, using my crappy non meebo aim app on my phone now. =(
November 6th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
This looks great! Keep up the good work~
November 6th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
I love what you guys are trying to do. I just got the g1 phone and the IM that comes with the phone is horrible. We need a IM that can compete with the AIM on the sidekick. What I think you guys should add is the following. The option to leave custom away messages, picture icons, mood icons, alerts to inform you when a buddy signs on & off. If you can mange to do that then it would be great.
November 6th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
I love you guys. This is exactly the app I’ve been waiting for. Meebo will most likely become the flag-ship IM app for the Android. Can’t wait to see where it goes from here (Like…letting me close conversations? Hehe. )
November 6th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
The app is great! Can’t wait till see future version….meebo rooms would be fun for those long days at work, as would a remeber me feature when logging in…its shaping up to be a flawless app.
November 7th, 2008 at 12:12 am
I dig it. I’d like to be able to re-size the text on the buddy list screen and in conversations, though.
November 7th, 2008 at 12:21 am
yea i also wonder why there is still no native apllication for the iphone?!
and btw a native application for mac would also be nice

How about creating a version of Meebo for Windows Mobile phones since they account for the majority of mobile devices.
November 7th, 2008 at 3:29 am
Why isn’t Meebo writing an compatiable version for the Nokia (E61 etc) series mobiles?
It has a very capable browser and is undenibly the largest supplier of mobile phones.
I know you guys want to go for urber cool with Apple and Google, but if it only takes “a few days” then this would be an excellent addition.
November 7th, 2008 at 4:07 am
It seems much more complicated than it’s worth.
November 7th, 2008 at 4:23 am
i really like this…been using meebo for a long time…keep up the good work… would be nice to have the features to add contacts.
November 7th, 2008 at 4:27 am
Meebo IM for Android…
If you’ve been waiting for an IM application , Meebo have today released their own application on the Android Market.
Meedo is currently the only multinetwork IM application in the Android Market, bu……

Marvin the Martian!
November 7th, 2008 at 5:55 am
Awesome job guys! It’s a great first effort. I truly hope you follow up with additional functionality like custom status messages and notification sound customization and vibrate support. It’s already better than the built in IM client though!
Keep up the stellar work!
November 7th, 2008 at 6:01 am
I have the blackberry curve this app doesnt open
I love meebo and would love to have it on my mobile.
Thanks for all your hard work
November 7th, 2008 at 6:04 am
Good stuff guys
November 7th, 2008 at 6:15 am
It’s great, I wish you were able to add buddies, or IM people not on your BL
November 7th, 2008 at 6:17 am
Looking great! Though it seems like it would take a long time to navigate, for example from browser to conversation in your video was quite the convoluted journey.
I happen to be a big fan of Foghorn Leghorn. :]
November 7th, 2008 at 6:29 am
How do I connect to a Meebo Room? I don’t use Meebo for IM, just for the chat rooms.
November 7th, 2008 at 6:42 am
I just watched the video and must say that it looks great, excellent work!
PS: My favorite is Daffy!
November 7th, 2008 at 6:45 am
How about meebo for blackberry? is that available?
November 7th, 2008 at 6:49 am
Yay – Please hurry up with a Backberry app! this looks terrific.
November 7th, 2008 at 6:49 am
Sorry – that’s Blackberry
November 7th, 2008 at 6:58 am
I would love to be able to have away messages. I am not sure if Meebo sign’s users off when they are not on the actual program after a certain period of time, it would be nice if it didn’t.
November 7th, 2008 at 7:06 am
This is absolutely wonderful, and exactly what I’ve been hoping for. I expected to see a VERY “1.0″ implementation hit the Marketplace first, and never expected it to be as nice an app from someone as great as you guys.
Kudos on the release and I look forward to seeing what goodies appear in future versions!
November 7th, 2008 at 7:27 am
yooo i think it’s great that you guys are workin on a meebo for the g1!! i really want this phone and it would be awesome to have a multiplatform instant messenger on it. good work, and keep it up!!
November 7th, 2008 at 7:37 am
I just wanted to comment on my favorite Looney Tunes toon. There are many for me, but I especially love Gossamer, the big red monster that wears white sneakers! He is the most INNNNNNNN-teresting monster!
November 7th, 2008 at 8:01 am
Dunno where to send this, When I receive a message on meebo I dont want it to change page title. I use meebo at work. This can be also an option.
I use page title eraser plug in but it does not work with meebo.
Thanks
November 7th, 2008 at 8:10 am
It won’t stay connected. What are the requirements for “always on”? I think WiFi disconnects automatically after inactivity. Same problem with the default chat app (except for GTalk, which seems to stay connected probably via the tight gmail integration)
November 7th, 2008 at 8:26 am
seriously.. have you heard of WINDOWS MOBILE at all? it has a 12% market share, compared to iphone’s 0.1 and android 0.00000000001%.
and hello, have you heard about Symbian and Research in Motion?
cmon guys. seriously

November 7th, 2008 at 8:37 am
Great app guys, It does need some updating though. the UI could be a bit “smoother” and it seems the app is having trouble staying connected when the phone switches from edge to 3G zones. An “autoconnect” feature may be smart.
I’d also like to see different sound beeps for IM’s The default gets a bit annoying. Away messages, status messages, and setting your buddy icon might be a good idea too.
Thats my input, hope you guys update it soon! Thanks!
-Dave
November 7th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Please make a meebo iPhone app! Please!!
November 7th, 2008 at 9:01 am
HAHAHA!!! that’s too cool! My best friend is getting one for his b*day (compliments of yours truly… she said modestly) And i’m sooooo glad this is on here cause he IM’s like a crazy person all day, so Muchos Thank Yous you guys!!! Keep up the good work!!!!
November 7th, 2008 at 9:02 am
very good, app, but it keeps crashing. please test out the app on a g1 to see what i mean. the app didn’t stay signed in too long, either. however, the UI is very nice and i like the simple design. please update soon!
November 7th, 2008 at 9:14 am
It looks great, but I have a Blackberry Curve. I tried but it doesn’t work on my Curve. Will it in the future?
November 7th, 2008 at 9:55 am
I agree with dsims. It would be nice if the app kept trying to reconnect to the server if it loses its connection.
November 7th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Awesome! I was definitely waiting for this. So far its been great – much better than default im clients and using the iphone meebo mobile on the g1 browser (*shudder*).
A few things I’d look forward to:
- Saving of username/password, or at least defaulting to select the meebo client from the list.
- Away Messages
- Icons for Aim/Aim Mobile so we can tell the difference
- Show last message in notification slider instead of how many accounts I’m signed into
- Sound options, or at least simply sound on/off. Vibrate maybe?
Great job! And thanks a ton!
November 7th, 2008 at 10:11 am
The android app is fantastic! Thank you so much. I feel that even though this is just version 1.0 it is miles ahead of the default app. Some things to consider for the future.
- away/status msgs per service aim/gtalk/yahoo with msging while away
- ability to close conversations
- smaller buddy list font so we can read everyone’s away/status msg
- notification options for sound/vibrate
- native sounds like the aim “ring”
the app reminds me heavily of the sidekick version of aim, which is the best mobile version. stick to that as your inspiration! it was flawless!
thanks, and i look forward to seeing the next version!
November 7th, 2008 at 10:12 am
oh and
AUTO LOGIN! ability to save a list of which accounts we want to login @ startup.
November 7th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Love it! Thank you!!! I was hoping Meebo would be available for the G1. Thank you very much!
November 7th, 2008 at 10:36 am
The fact that there’s already an Android app and no Windows Mobile App, when WM has been around much longer, actually kinda angers me, no offense. It makes me feel like the meebo team has either betrayed the WM users or simply doesn’t care.
November 7th, 2008 at 10:37 am
This looks great! Just saw the video. My friend just got the G1 and this will be awesome. I however have a curve and am holding out for the new javelin to come out and would really like an app like this for blackberry!!!! pleaseeee dont forget about the crackberry users…..

November 7th, 2008 at 10:47 am
I just got the HTC Touch Pro and I used meebo on it! Although I would like native evrsion for Windows smartphones because your product kicks major ass!
Keep up the good work and get to work on that windows mobile version!
November 7th, 2008 at 11:01 am
I think thats great! I really hope that someday you could make a meebo that works on the Wii’s opera browser… because right now my PC is out of commision and that would really help out until i can get it fixed. just an idea for a neat project i thought you might be interested in!
November 7th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Since you guys are hitting apple and google I think you whould also look into symbian S60, after all it’s a bigger market than those other two options and we definitely need a meebo there!
November 7th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
What about the ubiquitos Nokia smartphones? Symbian S60…
I currently use eBuddy on S60 because there’s no Meebo. And i’m tempted to use Meebo on my PC too, just to keep the same app on all my platforms.
November 7th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
this is one rocking blog
November 7th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
I was elated to see Meebo on the marketplace. We all use it at work. We are a college with about 7000 users at this point.
Like Jay said, a different layout to see status, an ability to have an away status either canned or custom would be nice. (“I’m driving, leave a message”) The ability to close convos is necessary, I have been getting a TON of MSN spam and it fills the screen lately. And maybe have it sign me on as Mobile to other contacts. They think I’m on a PC and try to send me files.
Auto sign on would be nice too.
Keep up the GREAT work!
November 7th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
thank you so much for making an android application!! I’m still deciding whether to buy the g1, and one way I’m deciding is seeing what apps come out. this is definitely a mark FOR buying it
November 7th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
I guess now you’ll have to make a native iPhone app as well!
Anyway, keep up the great work, you guys are great
November 7th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Hello,
Just need to make new friends, add me 9jahnet is my google id. Bye
November 7th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Looks better than the iphone/ipod touch version actually lol.
I use meebo on my ipod touch all the time, and i agree with several, its getting hard to use, i hope better functionality or a regular iphone app is on its way..

you should add more little smiley faces/icons that you can put in when you talking to some one…. For example you should most defeinetilly add a PENGUIN!!!!
Oh and I like Chip and Dale (chipmunks) for the fave toon thing…
But you really need to add penguins!!!!!!!!!! PLZZ!!!!!! :~{
November 7th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
Would be nice to see this have notifications of IM’s by audio and vibration so you know when you are actually getting a message when not looking at your phone!
November 7th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
so GOOD i like it
November 7th, 2008 at 7:01 pm

November 7th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
I like it a lot!!
I would love it if it was also available for other phones. I own a MotoQ and my Messenger sucks, this one however, seems greaat.
I’d love it if it had a Settings Window where one could change the nickname, turn on or off the ‘beep sound’, and if it reloaded on its own constantly.
Keep up the good work, I love you guys!
November 7th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
you know a good idea would be to make an iTouch/iPhone app. And not just access to your meebo accounts but yahoo, AIM, and jabber acounts. Sell it for 5.99 and peopel would go CRAZY for it!
November 8th, 2008 at 2:49 am

hey. i have a mac computer and it’s great! the only thing that is a real bummer is that it doesn’t have the setting, aim instant messenger. i can’t aim anyone unless i go to http://www.meebo.com (thank you for the site BTW!) maybe you could create an instant messenger for mac users too. I’m sure I’m not the only one that thinks this! thank you!
November 8th, 2008 at 9:08 am
thank you soo much for meebo.. its the only way i can im my friends on all my accounts at the same time.. i just noticed ou have flixter chat here..you should put facebook chat as well
November 8th, 2008 at 10:19 am
Hey, I downlaoded the app. for the g1.
I like the whole set up you guys have going, but the major problems that i see so far is:
1. you can not change icons
2. you can write/ display away messages
3. also it will log you off once the screen times out after a certain time. (times can fo from instant to an hour or so.
But I do appreciate the effort in this app, and know it will be one of the best, if the best IM-ing program for the g1.
thanks justyn.
November 8th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
I wish we could focus on making this im available for phones, especially T-mobile
November 8th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
jajajajajajajaj is was just a joke
November 8th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
any chance you are making something simmilar for the iPhone
November 8th, 2008 at 4:30 pm

November 8th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
That app is awesome! I have been debating on getting a blackberry or an android… but I’m still a major BlackBerry Fan. Any chance you have an app for BB?
November 9th, 2008 at 1:47 am
You have to add a blackberry app.
November 9th, 2008 at 4:16 am
you guys should make a app for the itouch/ i phone!!!!!
November 9th, 2008 at 5:56 am
Looks nice. But why all the comment spam on this page?
Anyways, I don’t have Android but if I had I would certainly use this.
November 9th, 2008 at 6:39 am
i lOVe it….comPared to the regular aim app on the g1 this one is fabolOus…the only thing it does need is the ability to write away messages and that it cant stop disconnecting me after a certain point. i really have to say im in love with the phOne..and im loving the meEbo apP..keEp it coMing..
November 9th, 2008 at 7:17 am
great app, way better than the native G! IM garbage… take your time working the kinks out…
November 9th, 2008 at 7:31 am
okay hello done me all????
November 9th, 2008 at 8:07 am
Are there any plans for WM6 app for all the windows mobile people.
thanks.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:34 am
that’s great
November 9th, 2008 at 9:22 am
What link do I send someone to get on meebo with me?
November 9th, 2008 at 9:43 am
iPhone app other the the web app??? I mentioned this possibility when the rumors came out, but then dropped it because you don’t have apps for any other computers/phone. Now we have an Android app. You were able to get the web app out quick, so it shouldn’t be hard to make a native app and would be wonderful. Just a thought.
November 9th, 2008 at 11:31 am

I’ve been waiting for this, and as expected is already better than the native IM. I agree with many of the others in regards to option I would like to see:
-Away message support, with canned responses (“Driving, leave a msg”)
-Method to close IM’s
-Remember me option for logging in
-Default network should be Meebo (or remembered)
-Remember last setup, which folders/groups are minimized and open
-Load aliases/renames as I don’t recall who is who by the actual S/N’s
-When someone IM’s you show them in the status bar (which is done) and make that thread clickable similar to the native app.
Thanks for all your hard work. I look forward to future versions and am already using this as my default for IM!
Also, to all those people who want it for Windows Mobile, maybe if the WM made it as easy to write apps for as the *open source* Andriod with supported API they would.
November 9th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
you should make so we can rite aways and status

November 9th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Taz is my favorite. That, or Yosemite Sam.
November 9th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Please make one for Blackberries as well! Verizon doesn’t allow for pre-installed chat program. I am using an eBuddy app now but am sure you guys could do much better, as you have for browser-based chat
November 9th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Hello. Um, me bored. Me don’t know what we are talking about. So I’ll just keep listening and nodding my head. *listen* *nods*

good day……….
just want you to be one of my friend

thanks for reading my letter

November 10th, 2008 at 6:54 am
Is this the same app as this unreleased meebo client?
http://thekingant.livejournal.com/80655.html
If yes, that would explain why meebo has an android app… someone made it for them! You want one for the iphone, make it for them.
November 10th, 2008 at 6:58 am
You Need To Create An App For The Apple iPhone/iPod Touch.
November 10th, 2008 at 7:54 am
if you are 15 and likes me
November 10th, 2008 at 8:12 am
It’s almost insulting that the Android would get an app faster than the iPhone. Sure, the G1 is new, from Google, and open source. But the iPhone owns the market. I just read an article the other day talking about how the iPhone has leap frogged RIM. Meebo is the greatest but I don’t know about this last move.
November 10th, 2008 at 8:29 am
The App was a great idea considering that the Android IM sucks
I’m having a few problems with the program
-Can’t close open conversations
-Can’t set up away message
-Some messages don’t go threw
Once these problems are fixed I would give it a 10 out of 10
November 10th, 2008 at 8:38 am
hello how are you baby
November 10th, 2008 at 8:40 am
the meebo sucks on the g1…i just downloaded it
you cant customize anything….and you get booted every minute if your idle….
seriously needs to be worked on…
November 10th, 2008 at 9:09 am
can u plzzzz stop sending them im not tryin to be mean but plzz stop thankxxx♥
November 10th, 2008 at 9:13 am
meebo blogs are so cool… it makes me feel that i am also a part of the community that makes meebo better.. Congratulations Meeboosters!!!

I second the idea of developing something for the S60 platform on the nokias (E71 for me). I’m using Fring at the moment (it allows me to use Skype as well as MSN and Gtalk) but would definitely look at migrating if you guys sorted something out.
November 10th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
You must To Create An App For The Apple iPhone

November 10th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Wile you’re keeping up with all these uber-cool phones (iphone/gphone), how about support for windows mobile devices? We’re still a sizable share of the market that, so far, you’ve sadly ignored.
Right now I’m forced to use Nimbuzz, as it’s the only free IM program that works well n that envrionment; I’d love to see a win-mo meebo though!
November 10th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
hi……. meebo is cool …. msn is cooler !! hehe
November 10th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
Greetings,
I tried using meebo on my N95 8gb Nokia, firmware ver. 15, using its web browser.
I can open the site and login, and was able to see a message, but when i tried double cliking a contact (to send a message) it does not respond.
Maybe its the mobile phone browsers’ problem. I hope you also do a Symbian 60 compatible meebo in your next summer hackation.
Sure would beat the mobile yahoo messenger.
Thank you very much.
November 10th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
How come no one is mentioning that on the G1, the app closes whenever you lock the phone? So if I put it in my pocket for a few minutes, and take it out, I am logged out all that time and have to re-type in my login info.
once that is “fixed”..this will be a great app.
November 10th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
icons, away messages, and thatsz it!!
November 10th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Oh please make this for PPC and WM phones!
*whines*
November 10th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
Sound would be awesome or some notification pop-up, otherwise, it isn’t bad for a rough draft…
I will keep my eyes peeled for a new release on the android market!
November 10th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
need to run in the background better, and have more global features and a better looking UI.

if someone ask you something why cant you give them the help they ask for. like how to fix your cam or go to the right web page to get the help to fix it
November 10th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
hey, i love the meebo app for the G1, all i can say is, can i get an away message choice =]
November 10th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
I actually had the Meebo on my G1 and I was slightly upset. A lot of the applications produced for instant messaging purposes are definitely not up to “par.”
The application constantly logs you off, so you’re forced to close the program and sometimes it says you’re logged on even when you’re not.
I tried it out a couple times, and usually it will always say my all buddies are offline, but I know that is not possible, since I have an good amount and have friends who are constantly on.
I don’t mean to be the barrier of bad news, perhaps the application needs some further adjustments and fix this bug?
November 11th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
Not quite perfect, but still EPICALLY cool. Keep up the good work!
November 12th, 2008 at 7:48 am
Good App for the G1 but needs to be fix up some like being able to post away messages, remembering passwords. and it signs you out about every 15 min or so. but works way better than the default IM the G1 comes with
November 12th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
I went to my friends house every day to spend the night the End
November 13th, 2008 at 6:00 am
its good but we need to be able to make away messages for aim..customized ones preferrably and our own picture icons
November 14th, 2008 at 8:33 am
Noticed an improvement in connectivity after the update. Also had a few new feature requests. They’re more advanced but should be possible in android:
- Ability to click on hyperlinks.
- Text correction/prediction. Does this have to be written into the progem, or is it a feature of the os?
- Copy/paste!
November 17th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
It won’t stay logged on for me, I have to sign in every time my phone screen goes black
November 17th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
This app was something that really excited me upon hearing about its creation for the G1 phone. I LOVE meebo. I use it on my desktop constantly. Especially at schools that have program killers prevent things like the aim or msn apps.
My only disappointments lie in the inability to save my password (which would save me tons of time) and the face that it disconnects often.
Since my desktop has decided to finally die on me, my G1 is all I have that connects me to the online social world. I hope Meebo will be updated more often and that some day, a future build will amend all my disconnection issues.
November 17th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
I don’t get it, when I log into Meebo from PV with netscape I see nicknames of my contacts on my ICQ contact list. However when I use the Android version of Meebo I only see the ICQ numbers of my contacts. This makes it pretty much useless since I don’t know my contacts by their ICQ number.

All I want and need is to be able to write away messages, I dont care about icons and the whoopla, but i need my away messages. They are like necessary in my life.
Thanks!
November 30th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Fantastic work.
It seems to sign off after the G1 locks the screen. I assume that this is because the phone has closed the data connection to conserve battery? I wonder if there is a way to keep the connection alive and maybe go in to an ‘Away’ status where the app checks for new messages every so often(say 10 minutes?).
Also, its a pain having to retype username and password all the time, could you save these in the app please.
December 1st, 2008 at 1:03 pm
ive had the 2 or 3 versions of meebo on my g1 the first 1 was great because it didnt sign ou as often as the newest version does but the 1st didnt have an alert.. the newest 1 has an alert but is very faint.. my complaint is that meebo signs out ever 5 minutes and on account of that when u attempt ti sign back in it takes forever and doesnt sign back in until the program is completley exited. it would be great if meebo could perfect the program .. meebo was the savior to the original im provider on the g1 bu has fallen short and now i only use the stock im agent because although its not good .. even when all tjhe contacts disapear ur messages still go through and it doesnt sign u off…..please fix.. ill be looking forward to seeing meebo doing big things
December 5th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
The app is great, but i need full ICQ support. ICQ contact list is looks like list of UINs, not real names – it’s really annoying! Could you fix this ASAP?
December 5th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
all it needs is the custom status message and i’m set.
December 5th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
and a custom away message.
December 5th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
The android app is great…if it worked. The fact that it logs out after about 10 min of inactivity makes it virtually useless as an IM app for others to contact me. If the app would auto sign in or would at the very least stay connected, all other features mentioned above would be secondary nicities. At this point, it is not even usable…and I’m greatly disappointed in that because the idea is awesome.
PLEASE fix connection problem in a new release soon. Obviously there is demand for it. It would make me (a non-meebo user) a meebo proponent and user.
December 5th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Hey, Thank you Guys At Meebo, For making the APP. Just recieved my G1 yesterday after about 2 week wait from backorders that didnt end LOL. out of all the IM apps i downloaded yours is the best.
a few thing’s- MOST G1 users say that meebo signs them out right away, while that may be true, (happened about 3 times to me) it actually kept me signed one for 3-4 hours first time during class today 2-2 & half 2nd & same after that until right now. so thanks
*things to fix
_

since yours are AMAZING
-not have us being kicked out like crazy or having to force close
-Able to read away messages & set at least 3 custom
-emotion icons
-SETTINGS so we could customize
-Chatrooms maybe:)
Over all thanks for the APP. it is literally the BEST IM app ever & i even use MEEBO on my PC. I honestly feel & believe Making this App will Benefit & Promote Meebo even more. Many G1 users i’ve spoken with have giving up on Waiting for an OTA, & are waiting for you Guys to suprise us
thanks alot GB.
December 10th, 2008 at 7:17 am
I have the following suggestions (echo’s):
1. remember my gtalk password
2. staying active doesnt seem to work well, and I’m signed out often. This makes me sad!
3. It seems after a while it hangs up or if I switch networks from 3g to edge it will hang up. Can you fix this! I dont care if I get signed off and on sometimes due to coverage, but I’d like to be able to set it to “remain online” and actually have it do that!
January 9th, 2009 at 9:15 am
The ability to change one’s status would be appreciated!

Windows mobile is dead. Who kind of idiot wants to run windows on his mobile?
But please, dear dear Meebo devs, please make it auto-connect at start-up, remembering the login info, and make it auto-reconnect if connection lost!
THANKS

I use android version 6. It cannot display chinese nickname. Hope it will fix soon.
February 27th, 2009 at 8:53 am
Thank you for your hard work on the Android Meebo application. The feature set in Meebo is far better than any of the native chat applications. And unlike the flaky native Windows Live Messenger app, it works.
February 28th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Meebo is always in my notification bar saying “Signed in with 5 accounts” even though:
a) Meebo is not even running and
b) if I start Meebo up, it immediately asks me to sign in.
So.. what gives? Am I signed in or not?
March 10th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Thanks for making this app. No more SMS charges for chatting in MSN, Yahoo, etc on my G1. You rock!
March 11th, 2009 at 10:39 am
This is a great app, way better than the one that came on my G1. The things that I am most anxious for are custom away/status messages, and the ability to close conversations. Great work! Can’t wait for the update!
March 15th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
I have used version9. It cannot read any chinese character. Hope it will fix soon.
March 15th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
This is a fantastic app! Here’s my 2 cents:
1) I can’t figure out how to change my status (logged into MSN Messenger). If it’s there, it’s not obvious
2) If I send something the same time I receive something, the messages mix up (it’s like an old school DOS chat app!)
3) What everyone else already said about adding / removing contacts.
Nonetheless, it looks great, integrates great, and works great. Cheers!

the new updates was not a good idea.
I loved the meebo till the new update featured.
my G1 force close constantly so now im not able to msn on my android…
please fix it I think I am not the only one who has this prob.
March 23rd, 2009 at 7:05 am
meebo is great on my G1, but since the new update, just like rambo, i keep getting force closes when logging into my meebo account. it also disconnects a lot…
it’s awesome there’s an away status now… how about changing buddy icons? and of course, adding contacts.
otherwise it’s an awesome program – it does use up about 3kb per message so far i’ve noticed.
March 25th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
Used your app and Cyrillic characters are not displaying. I had this problem with your Web app, but it continues with the G1 app too.
Jabber is Unicode why is your app not supporting it correctly?
I know it is free, we cannot ask for too much, but don’t you worry about your brand?
Thanks anyway.
March 25th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
Hey DimaZ, the app should display Cyrillic characters. Are you using the latest version (version 12)?
May 5th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Does the Meebo app (and other Android apps for that matter) automatically update when you release an update or would I need to uninstall/reinstall it?
May 6th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
Hi Gary, the Meebo app does not automatically update, no. But your Android phone will notify you (usually within 24 hours) after we release a new version, and you’ll be given the option to upgrade (without needing to uninstall/reinstall). This is true for all applications installed from the Market.
May 8th, 2009 at 7:38 am
Oh right thank you for that. The reason I asked is was I was having a lot of problems with Meebo force closing but now it doesn’t do it half as often but I wasn’t notified of any updates. Do you have any plans to make it so that I can sign in with all my accounts at one time, like a universal user/pass that will log me into MSN, Gtalk etc so I don’t have to sign in to one then go on “Sign on more” etc? Great app though thanks a lot for your efforts.
May 8th, 2009 at 7:53 am
Oh right nevermind that was stupid of me. Didn’t realise the power of the Meebo account that’s dead good. I have two suggestions though. First one is it would be great if it automatically sign me in when I open Meebo. Second would be if I hide a group of contacts (For example I hide my Facebook contacts because there’s so many of them) it would be great if Meebo would remember that so I don’t need to hide them everytime I open the app.
May 8th, 2009 at 7:58 am
I’m flooding this place with messages now. I notice that with Window Live Messenger now you can sign in at multiple locations at the same time but Meebo (and every other unofficial client I’ve used) do not seem to support this. Is this something you are looking at implementing in the near future or is it one of those things Microsoft won’t allow third party clients to take advantage of?
May 8th, 2009 at 8:25 am
Gary: We do have plans to allow you to remember username/passwords for all your accounts without using a Meebo account (but for now using a Meebo account is the best way). We’ll also working on automatic sign in. And remembering which groups are expanded/collapsed and allowing you to sign into a single Windows Live Messenger account from more than one place are things we’ll probably support eventually, but not in the near future.
May 8th, 2009 at 8:36 am
Thank you a lot for that reply I really respect the communication you keep with your users! Sounds like the Meebo client for Android is going to mature very well and can I say that having WLM signed in from multiple locations would be a killer feature for me as I could just leave Meebo signed in all the time without having to mess around when I’m on my computer as well. Keep up the good work
May 8th, 2009 at 8:38 am
Great, thanks!
May 14th, 2009 at 3:41 am
Any word on when the next update’s going to be available? Very excited about this app!
May 20th, 2009 at 12:41 am
Meebo on the G1 has always worked fine for me when using MSN. I tried today to add my Facebook account, and all I get is “Login failed —- Need chat permission”. I tried editing Facebook’s application settings as described in support article no 91, but the tabs it describes do not appear. All I get for meebo are two tabs, Bookmark & Additional Permisssions. The Additional Permissions tab has only one option – Publish recent activity (one line stories) to my Wall.
Any suggestions?
May 20th, 2009 at 9:04 am
In the version 13 update notes, you said that auto-reconnect is coming.
Thank you for saying this. That small bit of communication is the difference between me being frustrated at another update without the feature, and me being happy that the need has been noticed, identified, and is being worked on.
Meebo on Android is becoming quite awesome, and it’s very exciting to know that the one major stumbling block remaining – silently losing my connection and not knowing it – is being addressed. After all, nobody can IM me if I’ve been offline for hours without realizing it.
May 20th, 2009 at 10:24 am
Robert: Yep, we’re aware of that problem and are working on a fix. For now you could try logging into your Facebook account at http://www.meebo.com/. I THINK that will grant the appropriate permissions, and then you should be able to sign on on your phone.
May 20th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Robert: We think the Facebook problem is fixed now–you’ll need to sign off and back on. If you’re still having problems please email us at android-comments@meebo.com Thanks
May 20th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Thank you Mark. Logging in on the web sorted it out nicely!
May 27th, 2009 at 7:22 am
Why doesn’t search on the Market app find Meebo? Is this known?
May 27th, 2009 at 9:31 am
Hi Craig, search on the Market app SHOULD find Meebo. It does for me. You’re just searching for “meebo” (without the quotes), right?
May 27th, 2009 at 11:02 am
Hi Mark,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I try searching for Meebo (no quotes or spaces). I get
“There are no matches in Android Market for the search: Meebo”.
Same when i try meebo.
Is it because I haven’t been updated to Cupcake yet? What
else could it be?
I’ve only had my gPhone, oops I meant G1
for a few weeks,
so I probably don’t have something set up correctly. But I have
no idea what it could be…
thanks,
Craig
May 27th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
i did a little research and i believe the problem is with the search cache.
but i haven’t found out how to clear it yet.
i can see Meebo on the Market website. But I don’t see any link
to the package, so I don’t think I can get to it that way.
May 27th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
Craig: You can try this link, but it might just use the search cache: market://search?q=pname:com.meebo
May 27th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Mark,
I typed that link into the browser url field, and got a web
page full of results from google search, which isn’t
what i expected. shouldn’t ‘market:’ do something different?
thanks,
craig
May 27th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
Heh, that’s funny. I guess the browser doesn’t know how to handle market: links. The Android operating system should know to launch the market application, but unfortunately I don’t know how to tell the Android operating system to try to load the market: link. Sorry
May 27th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Mark,
I sent an email but thought I will post it here as well. Gtalk invisible mode doesn’t work. How soon (in updates/weeks/months) can I expect a fix for it?
Thanks,
SK
May 27th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Oh, btw, thanks for the great app. I still needs some work, but it’s definitely usable now.
-SK
May 28th, 2009 at 9:17 am
SK: I just responded to your email, but I’ll reply here too in case someone happens to read it later. We’re aware that invisible doesn’t work for Google Talk (or any other Jabber server), and we do hope to fix it in the future, but there is no scheduled date on when it will happen.
May 28th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
its great to have it on the browser but you think you guys could get it made as an app to make things easier
June 2nd, 2009 at 6:53 am
Meebo for Nokia E71x would be great!
June 10th, 2009 at 10:06 am
Allow me to summarize:
G1 user: “This is great! Thanks so much!”
iPhone user: “We’d love a version for iPhone!”
Blackberry user: “It would be great to have a Blackberry version!”
Windows Mobile user: “I DEMAND A WINDOWS MOBILE VERSION WE ARE THE BIGGEST BESTEST OPERATING SYSTEM EVER GET TO WORK NOW!!!!111!!1!!!11!!!”
June 11th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Very usable, clean app. Would be nice to have the ability to display only the contacts in a given IM account while still being logged into all the other accounts (and, of course, being able to cycle through the accounts one by one). Also, my ultimate Android wet dream is to have voice chat with MSN, Yahoo and Skype. How come there is no voice chat feature available on any of the current messenger apps? Is it just a matter of time before it gets implemented, or is there some strange limitation that won’t let Android connect with voice servers?
June 12th, 2009 at 10:34 am
Oleg: We do hope to make the buddy list easier to use in the future. We would like voice and video chat, too, but it’s difficult. There are a lot of pieces involved and I’m not sure we’ll have time to work on it anytime soon. I don’t think there is any strange limitation that won’t let Android connect with voice servers.
June 12th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Thanks, Mark. I guess it’s just too early in Android’s lifetime for the more complicated apps to be out, but also, I’ve read some discussion about how voice chat may be against some cellular providers’ TOS, which could throw a monkey wrench in the works for developers. This would, in fact, be the case with voice chat that worked over cellular data networks (EDGE, 3G, etc.), but certainly such a limitation wouldn’t apply to WiFi connections (I’d like to see cellular companies defend THAT in court!).
June 13th, 2009 at 11:48 am
Update 15 seems to include emoticons and reconnecting. Amazing work, guys!
June 15th, 2009 at 6:18 am
Mark, why is it when I msg someone and they respond, it opens another chat window with their screen name in all lower-cased format. It can become a tedius task having to close the original chat window and returning to the one with the lower-cased format.
Can you also update the buddylist so that we can see if our buddy is online via mobile? And of course, we would also like the option to add a new buddy icon for ourselves. Thank you for your hard work!
June 15th, 2009 at 6:20 am
I forgot to mention that when using the virtual keyboad in landscape mode and hitting the “arrow” enter button instead of the “done” button to submit the instant message, it occassionally crashes giving me a force close.
June 15th, 2009 at 6:22 am
I really should make a list of request before submitting a reply.
One last thing, can you give us the ability to check AIM member’s “buddy info”? I’m aware that we are able to go to their bebo account, but I want to be able to see the buddy info.
Thanks again for the hard work you put into this app and also for keeping it free.
June 15th, 2009 at 8:29 am
Ian: Thanks
Rithy: “why is it when I msg someone and they respond, it opens another chat window” That’s a bug, although I thought I fixed it. Are you using the newest version from the Android Market (should be version 15)?
Yes, we plan on indicating whether a buddy is mobile by adding a mobile icon to the buddy list, and we also plan on letting users set their own icon. We will also probably add the ability to show AIM buddy info directly within Meebo. And I’ll keep my eye out for the force close bug.
June 15th, 2009 at 8:45 am
Oleg: I agree with the phrase “too early in Android’s lifetime.” I didn’t know some carriers had provisions against voice/video in their TOS. That’s a weird situation though… because application developers aren’t necessarily bound by any TOS–you could own an Android device and use it strictly on Wi-Fi. And some Android devices might ONLY support Wi-Fi and might not have mobile phone capabilities. So there’s certainly no laws stopping people from developing voice/video applications. And if those applications exist, users are going to use them regardless of whether their TOS allows it. So then it comes down to whether they’re able to detect or block voice/video apps.
June 15th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
Mark, I am using the latest build of Meebo (build 15). The screen name bug was fixed but it was not 100%. Some of my contacts still show up in another window with a lower-cased formatted screen name when in conversation.
Thnks for your quick response.
June 15th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
Rithy: I had someone else report the same screen name bug to me via email. I’ll definitely have to investigate. Thanks
June 15th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
Mark, I found the bug. I tried isolating it and it turns out that it only happens with the people that have an away message on. When I msg those people, their response is in a new window with a lower-cased formatted screen name. I hope this helps you!
June 15th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Hey, Mark. I am also experiencing the dual-conversations (one with lowercase) bug, but that’s not a huge deal.
What I am bothered with is sometimes when it reconnects after losing connection for a bit, it will pop up with those dialogs to enter your passwords again (even though I’m using a Meebo account that should have all that saved).
What’s even slightly more annoying is if you go to enter your password by sliding out the keyboard, it removes the message from the screen, disallowing you to enter your information. I’m using the Canadian HTC dream, where my services provider was “kind” enough to forcefully remove the on-screen keyboard from the 1.5 update, so I can’t even try that route.
I’ll say this again, however, I’ve been with you guys for quite a few years now, and you guys are hitting the nail perfectly. As features come to the mobile version, I can’t imagine using any other IM client. (I was able to convert my friends with update 15’s reconnect feature. It is awesome.) Keep up the amazing work, you guys rock!
June 15th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
Oh, and slightly off-topic: people with android phones: Don’t forget to update your google maps app (By Google, of course). It’s on the apps market convenient access, and it’s only about 4mb.

“Mark, I found the bug. I tried isolating it and it turns out that it only happens with the people that have an away message on. When I msg those people, their response is in a new window with a lower-cased formatted screen name. I hope this helps you!”
I take it back. Although it mostly happens to the people that are idle or with away messages, it’s not just them. It seems to be random.
June 18th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
hello, in the last two days i cant connect with my facebook account…the aplication give me a notification “login failed for jmcaja@…….” Unknown error.
Can anyone confirm if there is a bug or its only for my account?
Thanks
June 18th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
jmcaja: That was indeed a bug which we have just fixed on our servers (so you don’t need to update your Meebo application). Please try again and let me know if you still have problems. Thanks for reporting it!
June 19th, 2009 at 11:57 am
yes i can connect now…thanks mark for your reply
June 28th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
is it just me or is anyone else dropping connection then reconnecting it seems like the build before the emoticons were added was much more stable and the connection lasted all day without interruption
July 3rd, 2009 at 2:11 pm
i really want to know how to get this thing off my phone …. i’m tired of stupid friends writing me at 6 am in the morning becuz meebo lets them i’m done …. how do i get it off?
July 6th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
brittney: You can uninstall the Meebo IM Android application the same way as with any other Android application. By going to Settings –> Applications –> Manage Applications, selecting “Meebo IM” then selecting “Uninstall” Another solution might be to “Sign Off” before going to bed

A renaming feature would be great (Simply add it to the long-press-menu). I just had to log in on my pc (via webclient) to rename the contacts, since besides I only use Meebo on Android.

I’m trying to connect to facebook and am getting the same issue as jmcaja, unknown error. Is there another issue with the server? It was working a few days ago, but hasn’t worked since sometime yesterday.
July 15th, 2009 at 10:47 am
Ryan: Yes, we’re working on it.
July 15th, 2009 at 11:43 am
Mark: Thx for the update.
July 16th, 2009 at 4:37 am
Is there a changelog anywhere?
July 16th, 2009 at 9:16 am
KiDD: The Meebo IM application should show a list of changes after updating, if you wait on the login screen for a few seconds. Or you can look at the last few items at http://www.meebo.com/android_changelog.json , which isn’t really intended for humans
July 16th, 2009 at 11:56 am
buddy’s pictures take long to load on msn.. can you make some kind of picture cache in the sd so it at least show the last know picture until it gets to update it?
Also pleease work on file send
Great app btw. Its my messenger client. I would just want to see it to have few more features to be perfect.. custom led color would be nice.
July 20th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
Great app, and it’s getting better and better with time.
One thing i’d love to have added; occasionally the app will disconnect and on Android it appears in the notifications bar saying “you’ve been disconnected” when i reconnect any conversations that were open have been lost and i will never know what those ppl said…
hopefully a recovery thing is in the pipeline to add something like this.
July 25th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
Great app,
I would prefer if the notifications were playing in the background instead of cutting my music all the time. Please add this in a further version. Thanks !
July 26th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Hi, I dont have an andriod phone…at least not until my birthday haha. but i was wondering if this app would work on the tmobile my touch phone?
July 27th, 2009 at 8:15 am
kevin: Yes, this app would work on the tmobile my touch phone (and any other phone running the Android OS).

I’ve found that Meebo for Android works well in the foreground, but if I put it in the background and do anything else with my phone, Meebo will have frequent disconnects and reconnects. It would seem to be a memory issue, as it happens most frequently when I run memory-hungry apps like the Browser or Google Maps.
This makes Meebo all but useless for me, and I’m forced to use the less desirable eBuddy app.

I had the same problem untill I started running a 32mb linux-swap partition but then switched to compcache which doesn’t slow the phone down like how linux-swap does. My Meebo never disconnects anymore, even when browsing the memory hungry webpages like cnn.com
You need to be rooted and have a custom rom found on xda-developers to run compcache.

Mike, one thing I found out about Hello IM! is that it runs as “active” just like the official Google Voice app. This prevents any other apps from shutting it down to make room for more memory. The only time Hello IM! and Google Voice gets shutdown is when I disconnect the USB and the phone is scanning it for errors (which I’m guessing uses a lot of memory).
I found that Meebo and Hello AIM run as services which makes them vulnerable to being shutdown to make more memory for the app that is on foreground.
August 4th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
I mean to say Mark, not Mike…lol
August 5th, 2009 at 11:04 am
Jacob: We’re aware of that problem and we are working on making Meebo stay connected longer in future versions.
August 8th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
I’ve been using meebo for a few days now, off and on, and it seems to be working reasonably well, but I can’t find an option for changing my MSN nickname anywhere. Is there such a setting? Also, being able to set a profile picture would be nice.
Thanks.
August 10th, 2009 at 10:15 am
Gnarph: The Meebo Android application does not currently support that feature, but we do hope to add it in a future version. For now, I believe the application will use whatever nickname you have previously set for yourself.
August 11th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Hi I was wondering how much bandwidth Meebo uses, say if I left it on, signed in for an hour and didn’t receive any IM’s at all, approximately how much bandwidth would you predict is used?
August 11th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
Gary: It’s basically impossible to predict that without a lot of really specific information. The amount of bandwidth depends on how many buddies sign on and off, whether people sign on and off around the same time or if they’re spread out. How reliable your wireless connection is, whether you lose your connection, whether your phone goes to sleep, etc.
If I had to give a totally made up number that is probably very wrong… maybe around 50KB.
August 19th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
I have the iPod touch, and for some reason when I type in http://www.meebo.com, the page comes up and fully loads as only the blue backround to meebo. If you could fix this, that would be wobdeful.
August 23rd, 2009 at 3:21 am
Hi, i really like meebo i use it online and when I’ve got my HTC Hero i will definetly install it, the only thing I really miss is OTR for encryption.
August 24th, 2009 at 11:43 am
Is there gonna be any future addons for font size and changing the font size, its way too small, and adding icons next to the chat?
August 24th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Dante: Yes, we’re planning on adding the ability to change the font size in the future. Where would you like to change it, exactly? In the IM window? Anywhere else?
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Man, I’m late to this party.
If anyone’s still working on this, I’d really love to see meebo for android have an option to only vibrate on a message (or only create a notification, even) when the conversation doesn’t already have focus.
It’s a bit irksome when I’m talking to a couple of people who tend to split their text into a number of smaller messages and my G1 pretty much just constantly vibrates.
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Zach: This is on our TODO list. Thanks!

downloaded this for my mytouch.. disconnects too much and keeps saying im logged in from 2 different locations.. if this app can stay connected even while im on a phone call and notify me if anyone has imed me once i hang up, stay connected through out the day, save convo and stop saying im logged in 2 different locations it will be perfect for me
September 14th, 2009 at 2:26 am
would be great if it didn’t disconnect constantly, which makes it useless..
September 24th, 2009 at 5:32 am
Got my G1 just a few days ago and I really enjoy it – the meebo app is one of the best apps, very usefull and saves a lot of money
Thanks for it!
October 1st, 2009 at 1:03 am
2 Issues that needs to be solved:
1. For some ICQ contacts, only the number is displayed, not the nickname
2. It conntects on start-up but not if the connection was lost. I receive “Connection to Meebo lost” message and there is no re-connect attempt!
October 5th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
Please update the UI to something more sleeker, I just think it can do with a tune up. Also please update the MSN icon to the Windows Live Buddy icon, the service was revamped to get rid of that butterfly :’0
October 10th, 2009 at 7:31 am
I have been using Meebo for serveral months without any problem, but the last update, Meebo v19, continuously disconnects on my HTC with Android, which makes is nearly useless.
October 11th, 2009 at 6:58 am
Me too. My HTC hero with Meebo V19 disconnected often. Please update it.
October 14th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
Using G1 here, random disconnects are annoying, but I could deal with them if it would at least try to recconect….
Meebo icon in notification tray should be optional.

Mark,
What the view on support for QVGA handsets like the new HTC Tattoo? I got mine last night and promptly discovered that apps need their manifest set to specify that the screen size is compatible.
I dont mind being a guinea pig if you want to throw me an apk.
I got a direct download of an old version & it looks fine on the screen but wont connect as its too old, it then opens the market and it cant find it due to the device filters.
Cheers,
Scott
October 16th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
scott wallace: Hmm, I would think Meebo would work fine on QVGA handsets. Does Meebo not show up in the Android Market for you or something?
October 22nd, 2009 at 6:44 am
Mark,
No, the market is setup so that for support for devices with a smaller screen than the G1/Magic/Hero needs to be explicitly defined in the AndroidManifest.
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2009/10/support-for-additional-screen.html
Cheers,
Scott
October 22nd, 2009 at 3:31 pm
Hmm, I guess we’ll have to work on that.
October 24th, 2009 at 10:51 am
On my shiny new HTC Hero (Sprint), the app works fine… But the shortcut keeps renaming itself from “Meebo IM” to “com.meebo.accounts.AccountsActivity” for some reason.
After a fresh install, it’ll keep its name, but after some operations (not clear if anything specific causes it), the shortcut just changes itself to the full pathed name. Kinda weird.
In any case, thanks for the effort and the app, and I hope y’all keep honing it. It’s one of those “must-haves” — for me, anyway.
October 26th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
Wes: That’s ka-razy! I haven’t heard of that before and I don’t know why it would happen. There’s a change I can make to that or may not fix the problem (and I’ll make that change), but honestly it seems like it might be a subtle bug in the Android firmware that Sprint has deployed onto their HTC Heros.
That’s a fun bug, though, thanks for letting me know about it.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
I just got the HTC Tattoo today and tried to find meebo on the market, but no luck, now I realized why when I read what scott wallace said above, would be nice if it could be fixed so even we with smaller screens can get it(or even see that it exist on the market)
October 30th, 2009 at 7:35 am
Hi
as often said above. i’d like to see meebo for htc tattoo
.
Used it on HTC Hero before an it is a great app.
November 2nd, 2009 at 7:03 am
Its not a great app, its an awesome app!!
Any joy with the QVGA support Mark? I dont mind being a test dummy if you want to email me a link to an apk.
Scott
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:16 am
scott wallace: Not yet, but we’ll push a new version to the Market sometime in the next two weeks.
November 6th, 2009 at 2:34 am
Thank you! Thank you!
Noticed last night that it dropped into the market for my tattoo!

November 9th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
Great! Thanks for letting us know
November 9th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
i wanna see a meebo icon on my ipod so i can just hit it and go i mean you guys are all about making it easier right…and fix that bug with facebook.just remember making things easier for us the consumer will benfit you guys big time….
November 10th, 2009 at 12:04 am
Hey guys,
I was wondering if there’s any new features, or a chance that the UI will be redesigned? Would love it, if grouping works in the mobile UI as on the web UI (referring to MSN contact groups)
November 11th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
I’ve tried most/all of the free aim apps in the Market, and I still like Meebo the best.
My #1 feature request would be the ability to clear the notifications with the notification bar’s “Clear” button (so one doesn’t need to switch into the app).
I’m loving it, though. Very clean and functional.
Thanks, Mark!

Just discovered Meebo for my HTC Hero and absolutely love it. Any progress on the logging-in-from-multiple-locations thing that was mentioned as on your to-do list for MSN back in May? And is this possible and on your list for Yahoo IM too? My understanding is it’s mostly up to each specific IM service whether to allow simultaneous log-in from multiple locations but I was kind of hoping to discover a way around this by funneling all my IM accounts through Meebo and then just having simultaneous access to my Meebo account from multiple locations (i.e. both desktop computer & phone at the same time). Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case now, but is it possible for a future version?
November 13th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
Bryan: That is not currently possible with Meebo. It will be possible in the future, but we don’t have an estimate on when.
November 18th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Using meebo for about a month now with cyanogen mod. i sometimes get disconnected for no reason but i think this issue is known. what i’d love to have is a logging feature so that when i start writing a buddy i can see the last ~20 chat lines since the last conversation.
November 19th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
I love the idea and concept! just wish that it stayed connected, I know you are working on it! any ideas when it will be fixed?
I would love to see an option to notify me when someone gets online. sort of how the old school aim used to have. where you could set on your buddylist an alarm to go off when that person gets online.
also would like to see an option where you can group it by IM group. like aim, myspace, facebook, etc and not just who is online and who isn’t!!
November 22nd, 2009 at 8:31 am
I love Meebo for Android (using it on my new Droid), but I’m going to have to say that I’m constantly getting disconnected! I hope it gets fixed really soon because it’s hard to go back to not having IM on my phone.
November 29th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
Thanks for this great app. It would be nice if it will be more finger friendly on high resolution displays like the Droid. Keep up the good work.
November 30th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
Love the app, but the constant disconnects make it unusable. I would rather use this than eBuddy, but so far that is the only application that works reliably on the Droid at least. Maybe a reconnect on disconnect option or something.
December 4th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
Please please please make the fonts bigger. When using a higher resolution phone like the Droid, it’s impossible to always touch the correct item on the screen. Thanks.
December 7th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
Is anyone working on meebo for blackberry (Tour)?
December 8th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Great app.
Just writing from my mobile and meebo is running in background.
Perfect thanks!!
December 9th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
The apps is good but i want to change my picture profile in the app…
The meebo for android cant short list by categories
i cant personalise my message for every account
i good idea if this apps for android can save the conversations in some kind of log on SD card folder.
on interfase is good if while chat with somebody the app show his picture.
Any way this apps is good but could by better.
December 13th, 2009 at 10:33 am
Hi – this is definitely better than the native one tht comes with Hero! But, REALLY need to be able to customize the names on the contact list. And, yes, my bad eyes would love a way to make the font bigger… =)
Thanks!
