It’s been a while since we added support for a new IM network. In fact, aside from our first Community IM network Flixster a month or two ago, the last networks we added were Jabber and Google Talk on September 19th, 2005.
Over the course of the day, we’re rolling out support for not one, but TWO new networks: MySpace and Facebook. These are two of the biggest social networks in the world, and we’re sure many of you use them on a daily basis. So click that “sign on to more accounts” link and let us know what you think! We’re always hard at work trying to create the best user experience possible, so please let us know about any problems you have or suggestions for improvements.
Many people outside of Meebo helped make this happen. First off, thanks to the folks at MySpace who encouraged us and helped us to test and gave us their support. A particular shout out to Ali, Dawn and Tom.
And as always, we’re pretty heavy users of open source software here at Meebo, and these changes are no different. We’d also like to thank Eion Robb, who created the Pidgin Facebook Chat plugin. Casey Ho, who helped polish the Facebook Chat plugin. And everyone else who has helped out with Pidgin and libpurple over the years! We’ve already contributed many changes back to these projects, and hope to continue doing so. Let us know what you all think, and of course, send in any bugs you may find!

Meebo should really add a way to allow people outside of meebo to see pictures, like yahoo users being able to see your own pic.I’ve been using Meebo for a long time and I’d really like that to happen so meebo take a look into it.

I know you guys get this like 1,000 times, but I would really love to have Skype compatibility.
I know that it’s a very complex protocol, and they make it not so easy on purpose, but I think it would help lots of people to include that in meebo.

Thank you very much for the facebook chat capability! I used to always have to check my facebook page to see if something was said in a chat because it doesn’t give any alerts, but now with meebo I only have to load up my standard meebo.com page! Thanks a ton!

Finally a major feature completed by Meebo. The FB multi sign on bounces the session in Meebo. I.E. you can’t browse FB and chat with Meebo with FB chat. LAME!!! Why does all software suck?

one suggestion – could you make sure that it does not divide up categories of buddies from other accounts? I have a few groups for my aim account – buddies, family, coworkers, etc, and the long list of facebook friends is located between these buddy groups and I have to scroll down to get to the rest of my aim buddy list.
I hope that made sense…

I agree with Randy. Steam is heavily used because it’s a popular commercial video game-distributing software, and one of its best features is its instant messaging system, because it allows instant messaging while the gamer is playing a video game.
I think it would be quite a feat if meebo could add Steam support, allowing any instant messaging software to be able to chat with someone in-game. Xfire also does this with its instant messaging in-game too. Also consider Xfire support.
This would all be good and make meebo so great. It would rock! ^^

I have been waiting for Facebook support for a while, however I would like to suggest, and I am sure this is pretty easy, at least as an option. To not show the Facebook buddies who are away, because right now the list is just growing and growing as more and more people sign on and sign off, making it harder to see who is actually online.

Aren’t all this services based on XMPP (aka Jabber) anyways? So there was already support for these Services, but now it is official? Are there any advantages in using the specialized services over ‘normal’ Jabber (aka XMPP)?

That’s great news! I don’t use either but it’s good to know Meebo is expanding.
I have a question, what happens if you’re logged into Facebook on meebo, and then you log into Facebook.com?
are the messages synchronised? or does it log out from the previous location? or what…
Same question goes for Google Chat in Meebo and gmail.com chat…
Also, it’s nice to know that there is back and forth contribution between Meebo and open source products such as Pidgin.
This should answer all the naysayers who recently commented that Meebo doesn’t even mention its competitors.

Been using meebo for years now, and I love it. Great program…there’s a lot to be said to keep all your chat programs in one neat tab on firefox. Don’t really care about any of the other stuff though…just talking to my buddies who use aim, msn, facebook and gmail is worth it…

I know that I’m picky, but I only use Meebo for the AIM, and you’ve randomly replaced it with MSN. I’m so used to it being where it was that I didn’t even notice that it’s no longer where it was. I’ve been using Meebo now for a while and I love what you guys are doing with the site. Having Facebook chat available is extremely convenient! Unfortunately, I can’t sign into it. I’ve tried last night and today, but it keeps shooting back an error that says, “Meebo could not create a connection with these IM services” and then goes on to say maybe I put in my information incorrectly, even though I know it’s correct. After all, I had just used it to sign into Facebook last night! I’m wondering if anyone else is having this trouble, or if it’s just me.

The only thing is that when I tried to connect to the Facebook service, it keeps throwing the same error: “Meebo could not create a connection with these IM services”. It connects for like 2 minutes and then it disconnects.

I think i have noticed a bug, not all of my people are being shown. For all of my groups it says “16/16″ or “32/32″, etc. so therefore i can’t see my offline people when I KNOW that not all of my contacts are online. I just added MyspaceIM too, so I’m not really sure what’s going on here. Has anyone else noticed this happening? I hope that not all my buddies are “lost”… thank you, and meebo is great!

I noticed that the MSN login was no longer up as one of the “featured” logins. As someone who doesnt use Myspace or Facebook, I think there should be an option as to which logins we can display.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE FACEBOOK CHAT BEING ON THERE! I haven’t had a single problem with it. I was so excited to see it on the front page, and I can link it with my Meebo profile! I’ve never suggested anything to Meebo! I never have to. You guys think of everything before I can!

All I can say is WAY TO GO!! And to the whiner who said he/she was disgruntled by the fact he/she had to click on the MSN butterfly, one extra click, shut up. Stop whining. As well as the SKYPE whiners. Just be happy we’ve got all our chats in one place now. They will get to it when they can. I’ve been waiting for this for months, let’s enjoy it.

this happened rite after i added both the facebook and myspace chat to my account, so i think i can assume the bug must be part of it. i hope this can be rectified =D

You know… with all these networks you’re adding (which I love… I’ve been wondering when facebook would be added), its difficult to keep my buddy list organized. I’ve normally group people by location where I met them (mostly places I’ve lived or am living) and now that I am on MSN, AIM x 2, and FB the list is extremely long. I was just thinking that a cool feature you guys could add is the ability to condense contacts… what I mean by that is that if I have a contact that has a FB, AIM, and MSN account, all those could be combined under one listing on my buddylist. This might be slightly more difficult to do for people who don’t use Meebo, but for those who do, you could offer it as an option to “allow others to group your accounts”. Since meebo knows that all the accounts belong to one person, it could then show up in that persons friends lists as one contact (on meebo) and the friend could set a preference of which network to use first, second…etc. Just a thought!

I should like to suggest that meebo lets you know when a facebook contact comes online as well as when they go offline. It is supremely irritating to know that someone you could have been speaking with has gone offline when you didn’t even know they were on!

The new Facebook and MySpace connectivity are great!
BUT… There’s always a but isn’t there
After 10-15 minutes the connection to Facebook is dropped and then I’m locked out of Facebook for a couple of hours before it will allow me to log back in. It sort of acts like a record lock in a database system.

I don’t know how to add my MySpace IM. I don’t know where to get my MySpace ID or anything. Can anyone help?

i cant seem to login to facebook because everytime i click connect to facebook it takes FOREVER to connect…it takes sooo long that i still haven’t been able to get on facebook thru meebo… any suugestions?

yeh ad me too when i click conect it takes foreve but it doesn’t open so i don’t know what to do
