Hey there — this is my first post on the blog, and I’m excited to connect with you all. I recently joined Meebo as User Experience Designer, which means I get to take all the feedback, observations, and more that we get from our users and make them into features and products that we hope you’ll love. I’m from Sao Paulo, Brazil, so look for a Portuguese post soon
The best part about my job is connecting with real users and hearing about how they’re using technology to meet, talk with, and keep in touch with other people. In that spirit, I have a request for you…
Meebo is all about keeping in touch — whether it’s messaging your best friends everyday, re-starting old friendships that pop up on your Facebook Chat list on Meebo, or telling your family/friends/co-workers about your day. Whether it’s someone in the other room or a completely different country, we often hear stories about how Meebo helps shorten the distance a little bit.
So my question is: How do you keep your friends and family up to date with what you’re up to every day, week, and more? Do you write SMS messages to each other? IM every day? Call each other every couple of days? Use Twitter or Facebook?
Knowing more about how you keep in touch, and what could be different or better about it, will help us design even more great features in Meebo!
Thanks
Mikey K

Olá Mikey,
To keep in touch with my family and friends I can either send messages, make calls, send emails or chat in the internet. it depends on what is available in the moment. E.g. when I am out of country and have internet, I use it because it is cheaper than making calls.
Um abraço,
Silene

Hi and welcome ^^
How I keep in touch depends entirely on who I’m talking to. My sister has a 7-month-old baby, so to talk to Angi e-mail is most convenient because you never know when Maya’s going to get into something. My friends and I are college-aged, so we tend to prefer text messages setting up a call-time or get-together time (since texts won’t set your phone off in class the way a call will). My mum and I are in two separate time-zones, but she gets home from work right about the time that magical 9pm free-nights-and-weekends time rolls around for me, so we usually keep in touch via phone. And for those of my friends and family who are not *always* on the go, I have my AIM and MSN on meebo ^_^
Welcome again!
Nina

My entire family operates sans cellphone including me. My parents and brother don’t even have internet connections to them it’s just an unnecessary expense. So we keep in contact by landline phone. With M&D it’s an everyday thing, we alternate who calls by the week.

is your name really mikey k?
cuz i’m also mikey k. never met another michael k, nonetheless one who calls himself mikey k. d
on another note, the thing i use most, simply because im always at a laptop, and im horribly slow at texting, i use meebo and trillian to sms family members and friends, not only to save on texting costs with a cell phone, but because it’s easier too. i think it’s one of the best features with IM systems nowadays.
February 18th, 2009 at 9:52 am
meebo if so much fun, i’ve got icq, aim, ms, facebook and myspace integrated… but yesterday, my ability to chat to facebook changed… i now have to be logged into facebook at the same time… which i don’t want to do…
i’m also hoping twitter integration isn’t far behind
February 18th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Well, my family members are a little “back in time” with the whole “instant messaging” phase. Right now, I just text message them using my cell phone, but I should really switch over to meebo or some other service because it’s killing my cell phone bill (lol)! Most friends I keep in contact with using Facebook or MySpace (moreso the former), so that’s pretty much it. I use the chat feature a lot now, but that changes from time to time. Hope that helps you! Congrats on your first post on the blog

Meeblog is a great software !
February 18th, 2009 at 9:58 am
Facebook, emails, calling, webcam, texting, all of that stuff
February 18th, 2009 at 9:58 am
as far as keeping in touch with friends and family… depends on their age…
under 18 – its all about phone txt messages…
20-30 yr olds- myspace or facebook…
over 30 – they can be on facebook or might actually still send e’mail…
over 40 up to 100 its e’mail or phone calls
February 18th, 2009 at 9:59 am
its good to find all the chating messenger on a webpage
February 18th, 2009 at 10:02 am
hey there i keep with my family up because i tell my mum and my brother wht i am doing every day ok
February 18th, 2009 at 10:13 am
in response about the survey, i stay in touch with friends and family across the country and globe by messengers, facebook, friendster, myspace. In my opinion, twitter is just letting them know what you are doing at the moment, whats in your mind. it doesn’t blow my mind like others. Email — sometimes I use this method, but i think the 3 sites that I mentioned are the best. Not only you can message each other, the shout out box or status box can be updated on what you are doing, and at the same time they can see pictures of you. I love meebo simply because all the messengers can be used without downloading. It works well especially I have friends that uses AIM, some of my family members uses msn more and friendster back home uses yahoo. so i can have all three!
thanks =)
February 18th, 2009 at 10:27 am
somebody afraid of twitter? i would love to keep in touch with all my friends via chatting on my cell…but i do not have a flat rate on it, so till the prices go down…
February 18th, 2009 at 10:42 am
I work at a Public Library and also Co-Own an underground record label.
I typically use Meebo to replace the need for multiple applications to run messenger-services. I was, however, using them often until All of those buddy-lists and different messages kept hogging the screen. I had been away for about a year and rarely used Meebo; now I’m starting to use it everyday and replacing my messenger applications because of how manageable Meebo is.
Messengers and texting via cellphone is my main life-lines to friends, family and co-workers alike. I’m excited about new features and implementing games, video conference, transfer files, and so much more.
My biggest concern is a group online/offline message system. I hate having to write e-mails when I could just send messages and in order to get information to multiple people involved, it takes doing that. If there was a way so people could save conference rooms and just log in to those and see any new conversations since they’ve left, that would be absolutely AMAZING!

Oi!
That is awesome that you are from Brazil! I am looking forward to your Portuguese post. I am crazy about Capoeira and am trying to learn Portuguese. It’s going slowly right now.
Welcome!

I primarily use Facebook to keep in touch with all of my contacts. I like the fact that Meebo has now integrated Facebook chat, but it would be nice if you didn’t have to have the Facebook window open to have chat work in meebo.
February 18th, 2009 at 11:10 am
I have switched to Meebo because I was losing track of all of the social networks my friends tend to use. I enjoy the fact I see and txt anyone without having to log into the other sites. I communicate with family all across the USA everyday and love being able to “Hit” my daughter at college on her cellphone while sitting at my desk at work.
If I could suggest one thing: Please find a use for all of the free landscape on Meebo’s Page or see if they are developing a smaller window. I would love to be able to park it on the screen and it always be on top. A few widgets would fill in the background too.
February 18th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Welcome and congrats for joining the meebo team. They seem like cool people to work with.
I use phones, facebook, and Twitter/Plurk to stay in touch. Phones for when I want an immediate response or for something urgent. Facebook for anything really; when I want to share cool video I found, when I want to tell others a show I’m watching, when I want to find out want to find out what others are up to, etc. I love facebook. Twitter is amazing, I don’t use it but I’m a heavy spectator there. Their search is one of my favorites things there. You can find out real time event from real people the fastest there. It’s amazing. I use Plurk as the alternative although I use it just for personal reasons. I like seeing what I been up to over time and their interface is great for that. Of course I use meebo too for the same reasons we all use it here.

February 18th, 2009 at 11:15 am
All about Facebook. I’m on the other side of the planet with respect to most of my friends but everyone checks their Facebook at least once a week. It also has a built in chat function which is pretty sweet, if only more people left there face book page open to home screen it would be easier to chat. I have an AIM account but I rarely if ever use it. Aim sucks up to much CPU power and bandwith. Meebo Rocks!!!

February 18th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
I use AIM, MSN, Text Messages, and Myspace/Facebook to keep in touch with my friends
February 18th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Hey Nice im Brazilian 2
February 18th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
I usually e-mail, instant message, or call. It usually depends what the person I am connecting to has. The most convenient for me is instant messaging because it is quick and easy. I also use facebook alot!
February 18th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
I think Meebo has come a long way since I’ve just recently starting using it a few months ago. Congrats on that to everyone there and welcome Mikey
I use Meebo as another extension to connect with people, mostly though I text, a lot. And then sometimes I’m on Meebo to find old friends and family. I think Meebo is great all around but I’m either missing something or it hasn’t been integrated yet, the ability to send a message to a group of people? That’d be great to keep in touch with my family
And I LOVE the Facebook feature now, thanks.
February 18th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
I have a tendency to update my “status” on Facebook and myspace to tell people what I’m up to. Occassionally I use the Bulletin on myspace, but people have a tendency to abuse that.
February 18th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
Phones. SMS. emails. Yahoo chat.
February 18th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
There really should be a way to use yahoo audibles in meebo. Without this function, I am discouraged from using audibles, because yahoo audibles are very important to me in expressing my emotion when communicating to my people on yahoo.!!!
February 18th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
IM, SMS, Facebook, Skype, Cell, ….FACE TO FACE ….
February 18th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
I really think that aim and yahoo are the best for children. I never new how to make a status then i tryed a few things and new how to do it. If anyone needs help just go were it says add buddy go down afew and there will be a down arrow prees it and it will say things pick 1 of those and if u want ur on press custom and u will make ur own
February 18th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
I agree with sami. And thanks for showing me how to make a status that really helped.
February 18th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
I use facebook.
February 18th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
I communicate with people by talking face to face, meebo( AIM and Yahoo), and twitter. I was wondering if there is a way to get better backgrounds for meebo. No offense but some of them kind of bore me.
February 18th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
I use IM’s to chat daily with my parents on the other side of the world – Im in USA they are in Australia.
I also just got vonage international calling plan so I call for free now too.
When I want to send them a video or photos i usually just throw them onto my blog (embedded using youtube)
February 18th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
Hi I use cellphone and Text Messages.
February 18th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
u r soooooooooooooooooo hot……i luv brazilians
February 18th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
no twitter
definitely facebook
definitely text messaging
welcome to meebo!
February 18th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
Hey!
When I try to get my friends or family to know something, I usually facebook chat or personal message them. That’s just easier because I have a limited number of text messages per month, so this way I don’t have to worry about going over my limit. Also, I feel like it’s not that personal, so when I want to talk to my boyfriend, or a friend of mine that isn’t online a lot, I can call them. I think something about a spoken message is a lot more personal than a typed one, where as, typed ones can be more detailed and make more sense.
Thanks and welcome,
Nina
February 18th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
All Twitter all the time!
February 18th, 2009 at 2:02 pm

February 18th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Hey,
first things first, thank you for all that you do for us users.
I usually use either meebo or msn messenger, the feature i really like in msn messenger is it gives you a option of signing in either invisible, busy or away. I was hoping meebo could do the same thing. thanks
February 18th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
we send SMS messages to each other
February 18th, 2009 at 2:31 pm

For me, an SMS to my friends here both in Montreal and Philippines!
February 18th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
I SMS my family and friends while I am away from home, which I have been for 2 years now. I also use the video / audio feature on Meebo; it’s the best method I’ve found for talking to someone who is far away, without costing a fortune in phone bills
(thanks meebo!!!!)
February 18th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
my goodness these popups are annoying and repetitive
February 18th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
i text alot. prolly the biggest thing i do. actually, the college i go to has a closed internet system and the only chatting site that comes through is meebo. so i got one. and i like it. facebook doesn’t come through here, so if that ever works out, w/o having to be logged in at the same time…..that would be fantastic! i miss my fb buddies. anyway, thanks for this! it’s great.
February 18th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
I use skype to talk with my parents, bought that skype desktop phone, and email.
Friends, brothers, and boyfriend is usually through MSN and email, sometimes orkut/twitter do the trick.
February 18th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
I have to say the most useful tool to keep in touch with anyone would be facebook.
February 18th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
I love meeb because it allows me to talk to several people at once
I keep in touch by email mostly. Next is chatting.
I love to blog, too…catch me at http://writephillipia.blogspot.com
I maintain a couple of team websites for my sons school as an information link between coaches and parents…
For my parents and friends who do not like to text or email or chat, there is the phone:(
You have a great site- I learned about it from a friend this past May and I have used it everyday since….
February 18th, 2009 at 3:12 pm

February 18th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
my group uses a meebo chat room for support for folks and their family and friends dealing with movement disorders. We love the room and the abilities to increase font for those that have vision issues. The one crucial feature we would all like is the ability to permanently bad trouble makers that come in as “guests” and leave horrible and detrimental comments. Sadly the group is always expanding so making it private and using a pass word is not an option, and the fact that it is often visited through a third party website.
I understand the problems dealing with this issue, but I sure hope one day you can come up with a solution! Thanks and keep up the good work!

February 18th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
muy lindo!!!
hay que admitir que es guapisimo y muy interesante
February 18th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
I text my friends constantly, I IM them whenever they’re online, I call them… some more than others… though I prefer texting over calling… its sad… I feel almost bad when I call because texting is so much more convenient for everyone… you don’t have to stop what you’re doing, you can get back later, and its quiet… but I call my friends that still don’t have texting and occasionally there is something I need to tell a friend that has to be said verbally… there are also those things that have to be said in person so I try to make plans with as many friends as possible… I use facebook a lot for that… with events I can schedule my time with my friends…
Since you’re taking feedback… I’d love to see meebo get a calendar so I can organize my life on meebo….
February 18th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
The way I keep in touch and updated is I use meebo everyday. I like it alot :]
February 18th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
I use all the methods you say – plus skype, plus voip etc etc. sadly in the US the telecom charges are extremely prohibitive comapred with developing countries. we dont have time for long extended stuff . I think short and sweet posts, actions are what aids user exp – like what google offers.
February 18th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
Well, for a teenager like me it is very much about keeping in touch with friends once boring school is over. A.I.M. is your best bet to talking to friends while doing homework and all sorts of things. It is easy then walking around with a phone in your ear. Email is alright but if you send someone something and need to know ASAP..it is not as fast. The person might not be on email at the time. Two years ago i got my A.I.M. back [ im bad...lost it a few times..oooppss =D ] and it is so much easier to talk to my friends. Now your wondering why am i on Meebo if i have A.I.M. installed and 6.8 and all that. Meebo is my back-up source for sure. If something happens to my laptop [ like right now...big virus on it] i can log into meebo and talk to my friends. ask for homework details or just see what they are doing over the weekend. So much easier than bugging your parent to get off the phone line to ask a friend a simple question. This is definitly bringing down costs on phone bills. Thank god A.I.M. is free!!!Of course as a teenage i want the latest things. So i got textingg!! I definitly keep in touch with all my friends through texting. cause face it, you can carry your phone around ANYWHERE! but i use texting only when im away from a computer. Other than that, im on A.I.M. or meebo because it is fast and really nice. My sister is in college in Virginia so sometimes, if she is on, I IM her..but mostly my mom emails her because she will probably be in and out of classes when im on IM. So yes, my family uses tons of ways to contact each other, but for a teenager like me, i use the latest technology, texting and IMing..

i’m a web designer, so i live and breathe the intarwebs.
twitter, plurk, facebook and multiply keep me connected
meebo rocks!
February 18th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
I use aim. I also use facebook and call my friends. I also text a lot
February 18th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
i just like saying hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
February 18th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
Hey,
With friends I mainly use ICQ and e-mail (would be nice btw if you could include a pop3 email client in meebo)
with family I stay in touch with phone, skype or e-mail.
cya nic
February 18th, 2009 at 4:24 pm
Wow… I use a lot! Besides IM’s (Meebo, YM, Gtalk), I’m also on Twitter, Plurk, Facebook, and Multiply. My family usually gets updated through Multiply, my professional contacts throught Twitter, my close friends through Plurk, and my other friends on Facebook.
February 18th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
I text my man beast daily – several times a day. I communicate with friends and family via meebo and email. I also have a couple of blogs that I *think* my family visit to catch up on my wanderings…
February 18th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
As much as I love twitter none of my family or friends are on it. I use it primarily to follow tech journalists. I stay in touch with my friends and family via Facebook because it allows me to share all my photos, send messages, and do micro-blogging just like twitter.
I really love meebo because I have several account on different IM networks for different groups of people – family, friends, work, etc. What I really love about meebo is having everything in the cloud. I can open any web browser on any computer and instantly be signed on to all my accounts with no software installation. It really complements all the other cloud applications that I use through google – docs, gmail, calendar, etc. Right now I’m quite happy with all that meebo offers. I don’t do video or voice chat often and the meebo interface is nice, simple, and easy to use.
That’s just my two cents, keep up the awesome work, I really enjoy the meebo service.
February 18th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
Welcome Mikey!
I use a whole bunch of different ways to keep in touch with my family and friends. We’re all spread out across the U.S., but through technology we’re able to stay as closely knit as if we were all still living in California like we used to.
As for my family, our favorite mode of communication is through myspace or facebook comments. We’re all on different schedules and also in different time zones, it just makes like much easier when we can just leave nice little messages and not bother anyone when they might be doing something important. In the summer, when my younger cousins don’t have school, it’s all about 3am webcaming using either skype, oovoo, or stickam. Text messages work too, but it’s really hard to write proper messages when you’re only allowed 160 charaters per message. We’ve got a bit more to say to each other than that.
As for my friends, efficiency and speed is key. We like up to the moment updates and usually expect responses ASAP. Text messaging is the best, it’s unobtrusive to any dalily activities (except if you leave your ringer on in class or something like it) and we get answers as quickly as we send messages. Since most of us are usually glued to a computer screen, meebo and AIM are also great ways to keep in touch and keep constantly updated.
February 18th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
Just wanted to say that I really love how meebo shows you the last few lines of your previous conversation in the IM windows, really handy, I am constantly moving from computer to computer.
February 18th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Hi Mikey, can meebo add a feature to segregate contacts by whichever IM they are listed? What I mean is grouping my YM and AIM friends together and not a mixture of their groups alphabetically – as what is going on right now that is giving me a hard time finding a certain contact
February 18th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
hi every1

Olá Mikey!
The internet is my favorite way to contact family and friends.
The most part of my friends, I meet IN the internet. Some of this friends living in others cities or others countrys.
And one of this internet’s friendships, give me the most beautiful gift of my life.
After 4 years of IM chats, I have a relationship with a girl, from São Bernardo do Campo-SP, for 2 years. Now we are separated, but we have a daughter, who complete 2 years in march 27.
Every month I go to São Bernardo do Campo to see her. (I’m from Florianópolis-SC)
So, talking about meebo…
Meebo actually is for me the best internet based IM client… and I use 3 adress to msn (family, friends and professional) so, meebo is the most easy way to me.
So…
Pra terminar, um pouco de português aqui hehehe
Boa sorte pra você, como funcionário do meebo.
Espero que eu tenha ajudado na sua pesquisa
E espero também que o meu inglês seja compreensível hehehe
Abraços virtuais

I know I connect with my friends through IM. I don’t use the phone to often, phone is usually to chat with family. IM is mainly for friends, for me anyways. I know my Mom and I connect through facebook some, other then that we’re pretty old fashioned.
February 18th, 2009 at 5:44 pm

Hi fellow brazilian! You just got my third dream job
I keep in touch with my friends and family by real world contact, or IM.
Good luck up there!

February 18th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
Well, messengers are a really great help for me to talk to my friends since they’re on a different country. Well, not only for me but yeah, you get my point xD. Another thing that will help is uhhh.. phone i guess? In case of emergencies you just can’t sign in to your messenger and wait for them to call you back, can you? So yeah, those are my top two.
February 18th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
Dear Meebo,
I use Meebo to keep in touch with my boyfriend, who is in Boise and I’m in San Diego. Because the phone is costy, we use this and it helps. Lol.
February 18th, 2009 at 6:09 pm
Hope you guys can think about adding skype function soon.
Thanks alot
February 18th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
On a daily basis it is Twitter/Facebook/my blog (Twitter updates feed to the other two) Also chatting a few times a week via Meebo and/or Facebook (so glad those are connected again!)
February 18th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
Hello to all here. Most of my friends are on AOL, so I go on Meebo and update my AIM pages.
February 18th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
holi cm estas espero que bn

February 18th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
I live in another country for my job. So I keep a blog and update it weekly with pictures and vivid descriptions of my experiences. Also, I use SKYPE to actually hear their voices and see them on video. It’s a real asset and free- like Meebo!
Could Meebo incorporate free text messaging? When I miss someone I use free online texting services to send a message to my friends cell phone. That way, they get it immediately and its just a short hello. (I use this service for friends in America)

First off, welcome!
Next, I keep in touch with my family and friends in a variety of ways. I use SMS a lot, as well as IM. I also use Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. I also post regularly to my own personal blog.
Hope that helps!

February 18th, 2009 at 7:37 pm
Dear Mikey,
I usually use phone and SMS to keep in touch with my family and my friends. But sometimes I use IM to chatt with my friends in Netherland and Japan.
February 18th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Welcome to Meebo(:
To keep in touch with my family and friends, I use Meebo, MySpace, Facebook, and regular emailing. With Meebo, I IM my friends nearly every day, whether they be friends from school or old friends. I use MySpace and Facebook (not the Facebook integration) for people whose screen names I don’t know or for people who don’t have screen names. I also use the two instead of calling people, which can become inconvenient, as minutes cost money. As for regular emailing, I use it for receiving updates for my accounts on several other kinds of websites, and for emailing people who don’t have any of the previously mentioned.

Greetings!
Working in a low-paying job, especially with the way the economy is, it’s hard to afford a cellphone plan, and most of my communication is through a friend’s computer. They have viruses, and not the best virus blockers. Programs like Meebo help me keep in touch with my friends from all over the continent, and a few others as well, without having to download anything that could harm my friend’s computer. It’s safe, reliable, and easy to use. The only downside I’ve had with it is just file transfer failures between Meebo users and Trillian users. Meebo also offers a community, much like the one I used to have when I was on Yahoo all the time years ago.
In all, Meebo really goes above and beyond my expectations of an instant messaging service, and I love being a part of it! x3

Make the webcam calling feature better !!!
Id like to be able to make skype quality calls in Meebo,
perhaps make it so you need the meebo notifier program installed to use the better webcaming?
just a thought.
also, PLEASE MAKE IT SO WE CAN HAVE A CUSTOM URL .JPG AS OUR MEEBO BACKGROUND.
<3 Keep up the good work, you guys rock my online life!!
February 18th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
Offline messages please, it`s kinda like leaving a note (:
I seem to have problems sharing files on Meebo too.
People can`t send me stuff & when I send stuff people can`t see it. ):
February 18th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
Meebo is a great help to keep in touch with family and friends who use many IM clients, but it’s missing one small feature I need. I’m on the road a lot. And often I’m not able to use my laptop. I have a smartphone running Windows Mobile, and use it to keep in touch with family and friends. I use a browser called Skyfire, which supports Ajax, Flash, Quicktime, Windows Media, and Java. I tried using Meebo from my smartphone, but there’s one thing stopping me: in a mobile browser, when you finish typing in a text field, you press Enter to exit editing the field. I cannot use Enter to send a message. I’d need a send button.
February 18th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
I Love meebo, its the only messenger i use, i don’t even download the real versions of yahoo aol msn and such, so i like everytime you guys add a new program that i can get into, i’d appreciate Skype support, however you guessed it i’m a HUGE text message person, although aol already supports that function by adding the buddy +15555555555. but it would be easier to have an easier way to go about text messaging to phone
thanks
February 18th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
I just LOVE meebo! The advantages are obvious, getting and keeping in touch without messenger software. The idea is brilliant – it works smoothly. Thanks for Meebo.
If you ask what to add, I’d say: play a little alert sound when somebody logs on, as I keep Meebo open as background window. — Thank you.
February 18th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
i keep contact with friends, meebo of course is the solution , if i want them ( my friends ) know about the up date news or something , i email or sometimes sms ( the fastest , i have now ).
February 18th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Oi!
Eu estou aprendendo portuguese!! entao desculpe por a minhas errores e nao tenho acentos….

I use my cellphone to talk with my mom and dad and bro.

February 18th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
I can’t wait until you integrate meebo into skype and other voice chat programs!! That will be a great day! I use many means of communicating with people. I am a multimedia student so I sometimes sneak a text message in class via gmail or I post a blog on myspace. I send texts and emails like a typoholic!
February 18th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
hey mikey k! i use whatever is convenient at that time..these days, you have no reason not to communicate anytime, anywhere.
looks like you’re starting to get a few fans, huh?…and yeah..you are cute!
February 19th, 2009 at 12:01 am
Because I am an expatriate living in Germany, I use Meebo to keep in touch with my friends and family across the ocean and co workers in the same building. I use my yahoo connection for my friends and family and my MSN for co workers. My Facebook link is used for my younger relatives. To keep everyone updated on my ramblings I use all these connections as well as my web site.
Thanks for continuing to improve a great product.
February 19th, 2009 at 12:08 am

Hi Mikey, I use meebo whilst at work so I have one entrance as such cos my mum uses yahoo and my boyfriend uses msn… both live on the other side of the world, so time diff are a bother and meebo helps me stay in touch all the time. My boyfriend and I use sms’s every 2nd day, but its pretty much msn all the time. He is constantly connected via his mobile phone… so we are never out of touch.
February 19th, 2009 at 12:20 am
email
MSN
Skype
blog
Plurk.com
all the above are important to me, because my family is all over the world – 6 people in 6 different countries!
February 19th, 2009 at 12:34 am
i am from the Philippines but I am in an African country right now working.. so, getting in touch with my loves ones, relatives and friends, co-workers and colleague is very important… this is to ease homesickness and boredom… in doing this, i am using meebo with my three YM account… at the same time.. mostly 24/7… i also called them once in a while… it is more personal to call but it is expensive….
February 19th, 2009 at 12:43 am
I keep in touch with my friends mostly through messenger: YM and Skype, primarily, but also on MSN (I use meebo at work). I also use social networking accounts like Facebook, Twitter and Plurk. I also try to update my blogs as much as possible to let them know what I’m doing. Oddly enough, I don’t do SMS as much as before. I prefer chatting or calling them over VOIP.

Hi I’m edz… Currently working here in Doha, Qatar, but i’m from the Philippines.. For my family to be updated on what is happening to me here in qatar, I usually text them through “chikka” without spending any cash.. I call them through “Voipcheap” which cost me 10 Euro only.. And I also use ym and meebo.. And i show them my pictures in “Facebook” and “Friendster”.. And that’ll be my way of spending my next 1 year and 6 months here in qatar in order not to feel lonely and in order not to be homesick.. =)..
February 19th, 2009 at 4:24 am
I call my family, whenever needed or they call me, when want to talk (especially grandmother). I like to keep in touch with friends by phone too, but not always succeeding, so IM is the way to go. Texting and Skype for keeping in touch with people abroad.

February 19th, 2009 at 5:44 am
hi i like meebo and all the time i chat from meebo nd i produce it to my friend but my parents dont know about chat they use just sms & selphone for touching thanks
February 19th, 2009 at 5:51 am
I use email, & skype (detects my webcam), & the occasional desktop based IM client.
I use (and LOVE!!), meebo, because I am a Linux developer, and very often I can’t use skype or IM because it will retain usernames and/or passwords which would be hazardous, or in the least, annoying to our customers, so I have to use something web based.
At first I tried MSN Web Messenger. YUCK!! covered from top to bottom with disgusting ads.
Now I use meebo.
February 19th, 2009 at 5:57 am
Hi mike,
nice to meet you here, you look handsome, can you give me a chance to know more about you.hehe, i would liek to make a friend with you, will you? hehe, have a nice day, my dear.
hope to hear from you soon, my dear.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:01 am
if Meebo could get SKYPE as part of their network, it would allow a great deal of us to send txt messages to freinds cell phones when we do not have our phones handy, nor the ability to download programs such as skype.
Also, FortiNet has officaily blocked accessing Meebo. Can meebo contact the company and request an explanation?
February 19th, 2009 at 6:06 am
Hey Mike,
I use Meebo quite frequently to connect with people through a wide-area of the offered messaging services. I think it would be fantastic to be able to send SMS through Meebo as well–I do a fair amount of text messaging throughout the day, and to be able to yet again combine all of my communication services into one would be great.
I’m sure accommodating something such as SMS would be a challenge, but I believe in you guys!
Thanks.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:06 am
i enjoy talkin to my boyfriend and my friends on meebo. its alot of fun and enjoyable.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:09 am
i hope very one enjoys meebo
February 19th, 2009 at 6:09 am
I call, text, and leave messages via myspace and all that jazz. I mean, I’m sure you’ve gotten that response a hundred times by now, but I do write letters as well. Not to everyone, just my stepmother.
By the way, you should put a “remember me” box under more than just the Meebo groups section.

SMS and actual conversations on a cell plan shared by the family, Google and yahoo text with Meebo. Twitter to Facebook with phone and an add-on to Firefox that allows tweating in the address bar.
My wife calls me at work a lot.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:11 am
Mikey !
The ways people tries to keep in touch with Family, Friends, Co-Workers,
Customers and Suppliers will be Out of our control if the actual format of
of messengers not change !!
I convinced that meebo is an excelent tool but his growing would have a problem.
Imagine an meebo user with 30 contacts in MSN , 21 in Yahoo, 33 in Gmail
61 in AOL and 198 in facebook
When that user logs in meebo, he have a high probability that his screen will be full
of conversations windows.
In my case, this happened to me, and I guarantee you will have a
very stressed moment.
My point is, more than a Question of how we use technology, meebo developers will try to be 2 steps ahead with other similar programs, designing an application that joints all contacs in one chat window.
Of course we have contacts to talk definitively in private way, but there are others that we may put in my public room.
I think this application already exist, and only you have to do is promote it and provide
the warning option to contacts if they agree they will be put in a meebo users public-friends room.
Hope this application improvement will be very cool
Congratulations to meebo team.

I’ve used meebo for some time now and would love to have a sms and voice chat feature.
Hooking up to meebo has condensed my messenger log ons. At work, messenger connections are vital and having a voice feature would be awsome and eliminate my need to do a quick swat to full messenger (yahoo/msn/skype) to use the voice feature.
As for the sms feature, that just for personal use

Hi Mikey!
Though your post was quite refreshing that I decided to comment (which don’t usually do).
I’m Abi from the Philippines and here in Manila, we send SMS-s to keep in touch (with friends, family and even business associates) a lot! And I mean it… my postpaid account alone tallies a whopping 600-700 SMS sent a month. Not to mention the use of my Chikka account (a free online SMS messaging service), Meebo, Yahoo Messenger, Skype (occasionally) and of course popular social networking sites like Friendster and Facebook are must haves. I use these online sites to connect to my friends here and abroad.
Hope this is helpful.
So, what’s popular in Sao Paulo?
Cheers,
Abi

February 19th, 2009 at 6:35 am
I am constantly on facebook. Outside of the that, texts would be a close second. Then there is an IM+ app for the iPhone I use too.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:36 am
I’ve just been using meebo, mostly, and ventrilo.
Well, everyone keeps telling me to use Twitter..but I just can’t bother. It would be awesome if I could access it and make twitter posts on meebo, though!
February 19th, 2009 at 6:39 am
yes, all of the above, and the best of course, in person, which works exceptionally well for us types who have fewer deeper friends rather than a broader fan base
February 19th, 2009 at 6:55 am
yes meebo it is good
February 19th, 2009 at 7:08 am
Hey!

February 19th, 2009 at 7:13 am
I met some one on the other sid of the world. I’m in PA, she’s in Nigeria. We met on myspace, but meebo helps us keep in touch, and have real conversations. We are becoming very close. Thanks to meebo.
February 19th, 2009 at 7:13 am
I generally talk to everyone daily by phone or over the various different IM services, AIM prominently, MSN, and ICQ.
February 19th, 2009 at 7:13 am
I would love to have a 1-stop social networking site that allows me to keep up with my family and vice-versa, but the problem is adoption. We could all use Facebook, but some of the family isn’t that technologically inclined and some others are worried about privacy, so I have a handful of family on Facebook. IM, calling are generally person-to-person, which makes it hard to broadcast news to many at the same time, so there you get the grapevine effect and possibly people left out.
As best as I have been able to come up with is to run a small, password-protected family blog on Wordpress.com. It has the following advantages:
1. Even the least technologically inclined people in our families (including my 80-year-old+ grandparents) are able to click on a link and enter a password.
2. No one but me has to worry about putting their personal information online.
3. I can push one e-mail via a mailing list and everyone in the family knows there is something new to go see.
4. I can do it on my own schedule, with pics hosted on Wordpress.com and audio and video hosted on third party sites like YouTube.
Disadvantages:
1. Almost totally 1-way. No matter how much I encourage people to comment, the only real way I get the same kind of news from others in the family is if they post to Facebook, or my two brothers-in-law have also started family blogs.
2. I haven’t been able to figure out a satisfactory way to really keep videos private. The way I do it now, I post to YouTube then embed. But in order to embed I can’t use the YouTube privacy protection option and if I start telling people they need to go to third party sites and sign up (and remember their login, etc.) then people like my granparents are never going to see the videos.
3. Impersonal. See #1 above, but an acceptable disadvantage given what I am trying to convey and how I am trying to convey it.
I’m sure I could do more if I paid to, say, host the blog myself or paid for extra features on Wordpress

February 19th, 2009 at 7:24 am
Hello, i just learn about Meebo i would say about a month ago, and i thank dearly to that person for letting me know of this. Its has giving me the opportunity to contact old friends, family and people that i forgot i had on my buddy list.
Who ever put this together, i personally thank you for helping me get in contact with lost love ones.
Thanks So Much
Since i am always doing run arounds, and always on my toes.. i use IM and Texting alot, I also do calls to keep intouch if the conversation is too long to be typed : )….
February 19th, 2009 at 7:28 am
In situations where time is important I use the phone. Non-urgent situations usually result in texting, whereas IM is more like bumping into my friends on the street; we’re in the same place (the internet) at the same time.
February 19th, 2009 at 7:44 am
I see you have gotten a lot of replies. Nice to know people take time to read messages! well anyways, Email me sometime i’d like to talk lexchic1_28_86@YAHOO.COM
February 19th, 2009 at 8:03 am
It would really help me stay connected if you made a meebo application for the new Blackberry Storm.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:03 am
i use myspace, meebo, gmail, and yahoo..
February 19th, 2009 at 8:09 am
My family heard I liked Twitter. So they put a twitter in my twitter so I could twitter while I twitter.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:13 am
Holy crap! It’s Krieger! I read that the other day about being Brazilian and just saw the pic. Damn! Entao…como tao as coisas? Now I have to tell everyone that I know the guy working on meebo.
bjaum!

February 19th, 2009 at 8:16 am
I usually use twitter and facebook to keep people updated with what I am doing. Most of my friends and family use facebook.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:20 am
I call my family nearly everyday to stay in touch. When I’m not in the country I primarily use Skype to call and message. Email is also another mail form of communication when I’m abroad (which has been very often in the past few years). As for friends, we primairely communicate via facebook, text or meebo.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:21 am
I am from Sao Paulo, Brazil, as well. I have been in the US for the past 20 years. My parents still live in Sao Paulo and we stay in constant touch via IM. I use Meebo when I am working at clients and it is not okay to install software/IM clients on other people’s computers. My daughters also use meebo to keep up with their grandparents, their cousins, and friends from all over the country.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:27 am
I keep in touch with people pretty much every different way. With my parents, I call usually, but my dad uses AIM and my mom text messages, so that’s pretty awesome. With friends it’s usually over AIM or Facebook. I’ve also started a trend of sending actual letters again. Not as quick as an email, but there’s something really fun about writing on cute stationary and sending it off in the mail
February 19th, 2009 at 8:51 am
i use facebook cz most of my family are out of the country, and im messages and some txtin
February 19th, 2009 at 8:58 am
The most important thing for me about meebo is the fact it works everywhere. Even the most regulated firewalls have not caused issues or blocked messages. I work on computers during the day that can not have MSN or yahoo installed so I rely on meebo to keep in touch during my day. A feature that would be nice is ‘nudge’ for MSN.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:59 am
I email, sms & bebo all my friends and family
February 19th, 2009 at 9:01 am
i keep in touch w/coworkers and many friends via IM in Meebo of course!
And my family and i text a lot, usually several times a day. i email with people usually only if i want to forward or attach something or if it’s too long a message to text or IM. Calls are less frequent just b/c of everyone’s different schedules..and i HATE voice mail. Usually i just turn it off!
Thanks for being great Meebo!
February 19th, 2009 at 9:18 am
hi,
it is very useful when we dont have other messenger.meebo is great messeger on the web page itself.
any way m rinchen from bhutan. if you want to be my friend add me as rinchen_173@yahoo.com
thanks a lot……..bye cya
February 19th, 2009 at 9:20 am
I always keep in touch with my family and boyfriend with messages, calls, send emails or chat on msn. it depends on what is available in the time. should be everyday.
Sean Wang from ShangHai.
thx, Meebo
February 19th, 2009 at 9:21 am
Hey Mikey! What a surprise seeing you this morning ahaha! I remember meeting you at a CS Christmas party in São Paulo!
So as msn is forbidden at work, I use meebo here. It works fine most of the times.
Only Skype is allowed. It seems crazy, but I also exchange short emails all day long with friends who are not able to use any kind of IM…
Abraços,
T.
February 19th, 2009 at 9:24 am
Meebo is really good, msn itself refused to let me use it many years ago now and iv used my msn account with meebo ever since. The only thing I would say is that smileys from other chat providers such as msn dnt wrk properly on meebo, which can be irritating wen u get a letter in brackets. But thats my only niggle. Keep up the good work!!
February 19th, 2009 at 9:30 am
hey just like leaving ppl i dont know weird messages.so hey was up how you doing alrgiht get back at me
February 19th, 2009 at 9:34 am
I never kept up with extended family that much but since I’ve found everyone on Facebook, I know what they are doing all day, every day.
February 19th, 2009 at 9:39 am
Oi e seja bem-vindo a Meebo! Agora, ingles
. I use Facebook to keep up with my friends and some family members. Plus I like the tools of writing extended notes and linking to interesting news items.
Ate’ logo!
February 19th, 2009 at 9:39 am
I use SMS messages, IM services, text messaging, networking sites [facebook, myspace, etc], aaand Twitter. and I use Meebo for more than half of those!
February 19th, 2009 at 9:42 am
I’m glad you are actually looking to figure it out. I LOVE the status-update feature of facebook! I can check up on everyone I know who has one. I use Meebo’s feautres to log into more than one messenger service at a time so I can chat with people who use different chat services, I wish, however, there was a universal formatting for all of the buddy lists when they are compiled together.
thanks!

February 19th, 2009 at 9:51 am
I see a looming problem on the horizon I think needs to be addressed by future social networking tools. The increase in information, most of it more noise than content, causes apathy and distance as opposed to the desired effect of keeping in touch. As an example, how many of us care that our cousin a thousand miles away is “having cake” as their facebook update or twitter note informs us. Too often these new tools encourage ego-centric and self-absorbed negative behavior, and communication is not reciprocated. Basically it’s information overload. So as a user of Meebo (only because it gets around my company’s VPN) I wanted to articulate this problem so maybe you could be one of the few to address it. Facebook has some filtering tools for example, or I suppose future applications will offer tiers, so you can promote or demote people you care about. The problem is that creates a closed system, where no new friends can get in. Maybe that cousin would have a lot to say to me if she wasn’t overloaded by noise too. So I think what you should look into is tracking, aging, and reciprocation tools. I’d like to know which of my ‘friends’ or ‘buddies’ actual spends time on me, who wrote me last and how often, so that I could see who I haven’t sent a note to in the longest time, and try to keep in touch better. This idea of reciprocation, maybe through some kind of point system, might help people communicate more effectively. Time is precious, and so many people waste these tools with things that waste everyone’s time. I can’t imagine how someone with a 100 friends manages all the noise. Eventually they will just get fed up and leave the social networking tool/site. So all the future holds are continued exoduses from Myspace to Facebook to whatever the next big thing is. Poor communicators will exist in every medium. But I’d like to see some site actually encourage meaningful communication. Hopefully meebo will offer something like that one day, because people are drowning in the sea of information, and I think becoming worse people because of it. I imagine this may all seem a bit high and mighty or ranting, but it’s just my honest feeling of the dark future we seem to be heading into. These tools produce more noise every day, and become unusable. They promise keeping in touch, then all you see are your friends wasting time playing Mafia Wars or sending chain letters. I’d actually like a tool that rewards using the site for its intended purpose, keeping in touch, instead of just providing another distraction.
February 19th, 2009 at 9:52 am
I use IM, facebook, and email. I agree with Muavi_teri, I think Facebook statuses are awesome. It’s particularly useful to be able to view at least the past day or so of statuses. Unlike IM statuses, they’re just a little more descriptive and intentional on what a person’s up to.
February 19th, 2009 at 10:01 am
Where is Facebook chat? I was under the impression it was supposed only be down for 2 weeks???
February 19th, 2009 at 10:04 am
I must say, Facebook makes it easy for me to keep in touch with friends throughout the world. Instant messaging, texting and calling on the phone are still viable options that I use. And yes, I still write letters and send cards. There’s just something nice about receiving mail, but I only do that with close friends. It’s amazing how jealous people get at the workplace over receiving hand made cards.
February 19th, 2009 at 10:06 am
i only have one complaint, can u not just make it simple for me to add a photo to my chat IM without also the fuss u wish me to go through,
cheers
February 19th, 2009 at 10:18 am
I still use the phone a lot to keep in contact with family, but increasingly I’m using Facebook, or similar networks to keep friends, and some family up-to-date with what I am doing.

Ways to get and send the news about my hometown?
Lets see, telephone, telegraph, and tellawoman. I know, old joke.
The way I communicate is via the computer and internet, via email and now Meebo (instead of multiple messengers).
I rarely pick up the phone, and pay their outrageous long distance fees.
Also tried Ebuddy, but it didn’t keep all it’s functions / accesories in one Window, like Meebo.

February 19th, 2009 at 11:19 am
I keep up with friends by phone (landline usually) and by IM. I participate in 3D chat with a group of friends in Red Light Center and in Second Life, daily. And of course, there is e-mail. LinkedIn also provides a means of communication.
February 19th, 2009 at 11:21 am
oi eu sou americana, mais minha mae waz born in Brazil. I love Brazil.
February 19th, 2009 at 11:25 am
aim is like the best chat website ever all you do is touch the plus like add and there are list are groups you can create your own group you write familey so when you write the person screen name it will pop up on your screen so you can talk to them
February 19th, 2009 at 11:28 am
obrigada

Welcome Aboard…
February 19th, 2009 at 12:09 pm
I keep in touch with friends and family mostly using text messages and emails.
February 19th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
To be honest, I don’t. I think things like Twitter and Facebook are overkill on a personal level. I don’t really want my friends to know what I’m doing/thinking 5x a day. I write a weblog entry once or twice a month. More than that, and I feel like it’s too much bragging or begging for sympathy, or just plain boring. That’s just me though.
February 19th, 2009 at 12:41 pm
I send SMS messages and IM…or if it is something important I will make a call
February 19th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
hi,
you pretty much listed all the things I use to stay in touch!! The only application you did not mention is Skype! It would be great to see Skype chat being integrated into meebo. To me this would give meebo.com the final touch for completion!!!!
February 19th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
i lov the chat rooms cause i can talk to diffent people and expand my friends

(: I use meebo. Haha. <3 And Myspace. And I text. I text a lot. <3
February 19th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
I suggest you should allow Meebo users to add a status message, just like we do on msn messenger or facebook, in that way, everybody can see what you are up to without IM them.
hope this will help you
bye
February 19th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
hey im portuguese too i dont speak it though but thats cool that your from brazil … well welcome and all.
February 19th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
Well I stay in contact in many different ways with my friends, I IM them, I talk to them on myspace and myyearbook.
I like meebo because I can get on my yahoo account; my yahoo account is wacked up, I downloaded it to my computer and now it doesn’t even let me sign into it, which is so stupid, I tired undownloading it but it will not let me.
If it wasn’t for meebo I would have to talk to my friends that are in my IM list on my email account and I am not a fan of that because I already have too many pages on my computer open, I don’t need anymore.
Thanks Meebo People!
February 19th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
Hi,
Great opening question, the long line of replies proves it.
I’ll try to structure a bit my post, to make it easier to follow.
I. Answer to your question:
- phone calls and text messages to family and close friends
- instant messages and emails to the wider circle of friends, acquaintances, and co-workers (Yahoo Messenger on Meebo – works better than the YM application on my laptop, Gmail – email, documents and spreadsheets, Gtalk, Skype – instant messaging function, Facebook – email and instant messaging from the Facebook page)
- VoIP calls to far away friends (Skype or Yahoo Messenger)
- sharing potentially useful info (my content): Facebook posts and link posts, Linkedin tools
- following interesting/ useful/fun information (others’ content): Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin
II Reply to a post above by Jeff [February 19th, 2009 at 9:51 am]
a. good idea to have a management tool to keep track of the level of interaction with contacts on all of the above social networks – it can be useful to know that there are people to whom, for one reason or another, you haven’t paid enough attention
b. people do tend to migrate from one networking facility to another, but that is the case only when the network you have build there becomes irrelevant for your needs (you grow out of it… probably). A discriminate management of connections should prevent a medium such as Facebook or Twitter from becoming “too noisy” or overcrowded with irrelevant information
c. egocentric behaviour is too strongly linked with on-line presence, or with producing on-line content (e.g. all people posting here know for a fact that their opinion is worth sharing since they decided to do so…:P), what is more likely the problem, to my mind, is that some people post the right thing in the wrong place or the other way around (Jeff’s cousin probably intended that status message to be seen only by her close friends/peers and could set her account settings to that purpose)
III. Question – a bit off topic, but still strongly related to the question on how we keep in touch with friends and family since it forces me to move all my communication on my mobile phone during the day.
Since some employers cut off employees from instant messaging tools and free email providers, is there any solution Meebo has in mind? The case I’m considering is one in this the reason for cutting off access to Meebo, YM, Yahoo and Gmail is that they all allow transfer of documents – therefore the concern is data privacy and security. Assuming that this is the only reason why the measure has been taken, is there a simplistic alternative to Meebo services that would allow strictly instant messaging (no transfer, conference or calling functions), just the basic service? Also, can this “basic” Meebo be used as a simple visualisation and reading interface for emails on Gmail and Yahoo? Oh, well… that’s about it.
February 19th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Several avenues: Cell/texting for immediate family, Myspace for distant family and internet friends, and most recently, Facebook for old classmates!

With friends- it is mostly facebook/facebook IM (especially now that it’s in meebo!)
At work we all use meebo because we are not allowed to install chat clients.
With Family- we’ve got a google group that we all use to keep in touch, mostly through emailing the group.
cheers,
Rayzor

I would really like Skype to be supported. My laptop has problems with the actual program. If it were browser based, my world would be complete.
February 19th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
My blog, sometimes. Otherwise phone calls, IMs, SMS… Lots of ways, I suppose. But my blog is kind of an ongoing update on my life.
February 19th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Could you also please integrate the IRC channel, i used some web irc but it was made in Java, the problem is that, when I am inside the school, i can’t access both the mIRC and web IRC because the port(6667) that it used was blocked by the administrator. Hope you could develop it for me! S’il vous plait! Please!

When it comes to my family they still having master the skills of computers and its most famous friend the web so back to a regular phone cal lol. I agree with Dan I would like if Skype could be supported
February 19th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
Family: Twitter & facebook statuses for little updates, SMS for less-public little stuff, phone calls, emails, & video chat for real conversations.
Friends: SMS, phone calls, or just face to face. for content sharing (pics, websites, etc.) facebook or MMS.

I usually update them by Facebook, Email, and Aim/Meebo. There’s also texting, and of course calling. It’s usually what people are doing nowadays, espicially if the people who are contacting each other live in different time zones.
February 19th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
hello
February 19th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
I use Meebo to merge all of my messenger buddy lists. Some of the people I keep in touch are constantly connected to G-chat, while others utilize AIM, and some don’t use either so I add their cell phones so I can text message their cell phones.
The people that I am really close with I connect with through text message and phone calls. People are that class-mates or that I am working on a project with or just friends I will instant message.

Hey there. My boyfriend and I live 600 miles apart and we talk everyday through IM. We also talk on the phone and send text messages, but we have found that we can talk to each other while sitting at the computer doing homework (we are both college students) or surfing the web. It’s much more convenient than text messages because it is instant communication, and talking on the phone can run up a phone bill pretty fast. We talk for several hours everyday on IM… either Meebo or Windows Live. It makes the distance a little more bearable…
February 19th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
Yeah. You do have a point some place in there!! lol!
February 19th, 2009 at 5:44 pm
this is my first year in college, so all my friends from high school are at different places. and i mean DIFFERENT. Some went where there’s cold weather (Northwestern), where there’s a lower drinking age (McGill in Montreal), across the galaxy all the way to California (Berkley), and various others.
so despite the limited amount of time we have due to the college life, we all find the time to send each other care packages, birthday cards, plain letters; anything really. its nice to get mail once in a while from the people who are distant. it really shows that they are still thinking of you!
February 19th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Hi Mikey. I’m originally from Indonesia. I barely use messengers for my family, usually just by phone. But my whole life surrounded by people I met on the internet, from friends, good friends, best friends, boyfriend, exs boyfs (LOL) .. and i think I’m going to engage with someone whom I met from internet.
As far as I concern, internet can be a good place to do social life, as long as you keep it real..and not daydreaming like most people.
Good luck with your blog. If you want you can add me on my facebook, that would be nice. loveeabby@yahoo.com
February 19th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
i use twitter, @greggsandler, to tell people my thoughts throughout the day. my tweeter feed blasts to facebook as well. i also chat with people on facebook, leave comments, video responses, etc. gmail is my means of reaching people in a more traditional way.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:18 pm

February 19th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
I Love how meebo helps me to stay in contact with my friends when I’m away on a computer that does not have MSN or AIM. This way i don’t have to download anything on somebody’s computer I can just simply open up a web browser and log onto meebo.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:50 pm

I love Meebo, yes, but I would love meebo even more if skype was added as an option
February 19th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
email,cell phone and meboo
February 19th, 2009 at 6:58 pm
If i am trying to get a hold of family that is over sea then i use email or instant msg because it is more cheaper and convienent. But for family and friends here in us, mostly mobile or sms.
February 19th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
I use Facebook mostly to let friends and family know what I am up to. Sometimes I blog about it, but mostly I blog about professional stuff like web UI, online Marketing, and product management. Facebook status updates to tell friend before I do things in case they will be there too, and Facebook photos mostly to tell the story of things I just finished doing.
February 19th, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Skype would be way cool. Pleas add it.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
i always text. i probably send over 50 texts on average a day. my mom, my dad, everyone.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
I stay in touch mainly through text messaging with my mom, thats why I would love to have meebo on mobile so I can keep in touch with my mom, little sister and brother all at the same time on one device. As far as my other family goes such as my grandma, through e-mail but before she got a new computer it was through meebo.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
Meebo is great.but the font size from friends is very small, it makes my eyes very tired.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
HI,
Im akenyan and i like meebo i communicate with different pple in the world
February 19th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
what about adding twitter support, that would be an amazing way to keep in touch with millions of more people around the globe!
February 19th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
Please fix and bring back the ability to text people cell phones from aim. Other browser IM companies out there allow it, and meebo use to, but then one day it just stopped, so now I have to keep meebo open for IM and AIM express open for texting cell phones, on the same aim account >_<
Be more awesome meebo!
February 19th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Hello. I just wanted to say that through meebo I have reconnected with my friend Jesse. Aim does not work on my computer and when I stumbled upon this site I was extremely happy!
I usually use emails, instant messaging, myspace, or facebook to clue my family and friends in on whats going on in my life. Meebo has really been great to be able to use! Thank you all for your efforts!!
February 19th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
Hi
I use Meebo nearly every day, and it helps me stay in touch with a friend whom I actually never see – we talk constantly through IM. I use text messaging to chat with other people that I see on a more regular basis, but IMing is blessedly faster
Great product! Installing AIM makes my computer go on the fritz, so this service is incredibly helpful
I really like the company blogs – they’re a great personal touch!
February 19th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
I am Uyen. Can you guess where I come from? My job takes me lots of time and makes me stressful sometimes. So, the best way to release stress is to meet each other at a cafe or my friends’home. Especiially, when I find out the boy of my life, the beach is my best suggestion for an ideal date. Beside meeting face to face, chatting or surfing blog are also the best way to keep in touch regularly with friends. Mikey, nice to contact with u !!!
February 19th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
2! NICE TO MEET YOU.
February 19th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
I stay with yahoo messenger through meebo and yahoo email. Sometimes i sent online text messages.
February 19th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Hello.
Usually I use SMS
February 19th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
I use sms when I want my friends or my twin sister or brothers to know what’s up
My best friends are living in germany (i’m from austria) so the only way to keep talking is through the internet.. i use msn or icq.. but while i’m at work i use meebo =D
February 19th, 2009 at 11:54 pm

February 20th, 2009 at 12:26 am

February 20th, 2009 at 1:55 am
When I discovered Meebo (it was my husband who informed me about it) I was so delighted because in the office we are not allowed to download instant messenger such as yahoo.. got frustrated because IM is the easy way to communicate with my relatives and friends all over the world. Plus, we spent, of course, half of our day in the office. Then, Meebo has been invented by you guys, thanks! Our IT cannot stop this because Internet is part of our daily work as well. I spread it around to my colleagues (relatives and friends) now we are all communicating thru meebo even they are just in the next room. With my iPhone as well ..it is so convinient to have the meebo. Only thing is that my Mom would always leave me offline messages, which she knew that, I will received her messages whether I like it or not
Many thanks to all of you. I also like reading your daily posted messages as well as to get to know the people behind Meebo. Keep up the good work, guys! Regards, to Greg, I learned so much information from him as well!
February 20th, 2009 at 2:33 am
I communicate with my friends or my relatives nearly everyday. We use sms, Facebook, i like to use YM as well but not anymore.. i don’t know why i always have problem since i’m using Mac to download YM, always shut off..
February 20th, 2009 at 2:58 am

February 20th, 2009 at 4:01 am
hey,
for communication with friends I mainly use the internet and instant messaging though regular calls are part of it as well. for contacting my rather small family I still prefer to give them a ring, almost every day. anyways welcome to the community
February 20th, 2009 at 4:48 am
For friends, MSN all the way! Thus, if they don’t get on MSN it’s unlikely they’ll hear anything from me ;o i’m terrible that way.. although i say they’re worse in not responding to emails i send!
still living at home (with parents) so I only would have to contact my bro with occasional emails
February 20th, 2009 at 5:02 am

I wanted to assist you guys in the Canadian / Japanese experience since I travel back and forth.
I think your advertising returns would greatly increase if you did this.
Hope we could talk more.
February 20th, 2009 at 5:57 am
To keep in contact with my family and friends, I usually send online messages, or either txt message.
February 20th, 2009 at 5:58 am

Hi Mikey ^_^
February 20th, 2009 at 7:02 am
that sounds good to me.
February 20th, 2009 at 7:09 am
I use IM via Meebo to keep in contact with a very small sub-group of my friends, and then my general updates are done via Facebook. Sometimes I will chat via Facebook, but I don’t usually remain logged into Facebook for long.
February 20th, 2009 at 7:15 am
I keep in touch with my family all over the USA by using email and IM. Meebo is just one way I can get into my yahoo messenger even if the computer doesn’t have yahoo downloaded. Thank you meebo for making it easier to keep in touch.
February 20th, 2009 at 7:15 am
anyone who want to be penpals just add me in their user
February 20th, 2009 at 7:24 am
As a user experience designer, I am sure you will be fascinated to know that the absolute worst part of the Meebo user experience is having these idiot employee blogs full of insignificant blatherings shoved in my face every single time I log in.
How do I prevent these from ever showing up again?
February 20th, 2009 at 7:46 am
I’m alway on the german “schülerVZ” to keep in touch with my friends, since i go to school in england and come only back to germany during holiday, but I’m also on ICQ and Facebook, soon i might be even on MSN but i don’t use these three so much.
February 20th, 2009 at 7:46 am
i love meebo & that’s how i stay in touch with friends during the day, but i also love to text which is what i do when i’m not on meebo. my mom is the only person, besides my boo, that i call on the phone constantly.
)
February 20th, 2009 at 7:47 am

February 20th, 2009 at 7:48 am

February 20th, 2009 at 7:57 am
i mainly use Meebo at work because it gets around the corporate firewall. so i’m able to stay in touch with family and friends throughout the day. i’ve actually shared Meebo with other coworkers and now we can communicate much quicker when we need to get stuff done. i’ve tried to convince management that it would help make us more efficient if they could implement a jabber client, but Meebo has done the trick for those of us that want to get stuff done.
what would be cool to see is a way to connect to our personal blogs and make posts through meebo. also having a way to connect and update facebook would be great, again as our corporate internet restrictions don’t let us. lol.
i know you have an iphone app for meebo but is there one for the blackberry? that would be sweet to be able to log into all my IM accounts instead of having 5 different apps open on my phone.
thanks for all the hard work you guys do!

I use it all, with your service as the crown jewel. Twitter, plurk, and facebook and the big three right after meebo. Mobile I use SMS for real time and actual voice for business and my parents (who are just now joining Facebook).
PLEASE Keep up all of the amazing work and hurry up integrating Facebook chat
My personal Wish list for future enhancements would include Second Life chat (and IM) and if you could swing IRC that would absolutely ROCK !!

several stages — when i traveled more, i used blog posts to keep life-level updates rolling. now i use twitter, which not only updates the twitter feed, but updates my Facebook status and also gets posted to the blog. blog posts are readable online, but also exported as a Facebook note via an rss feed. meebo works well when i’m limited to browsers, if i am on my own machines i use digsby and adium, depending on what platform i’m on at the moment. for direct and instant communication with my close friends, i use SMS. if i need something right this second, i use the phone, but that doesn’t happen very often.
that’s for communicating out.
for communicating in and monitoring information streams from the collective, i just check the iphone via twitterific and facebook if i’m away from the desktop, or digsby if it’s available.
February 20th, 2009 at 8:08 am
Would love Meebo to remember how I have laid out each buddy’s chat window. It is pain to re-arrange every time I log in. Don’t others have this same problem?
February 20th, 2009 at 8:14 am
so… I use meebo to keep in touch… and I also SMS/MMS… to SMS from meebo would be an incredible +
Something else that would be great to see… is “location”, i’m constantly on the move, my friends are constantly on the move, I’m in NYC today, Boston tommorow, Hong Kong the next day… Something as simple as a “location” that is setable… “working from home” type of deal or in Boston today… would be nice… Taking that idea to the next level… having a background map… that maps all my meebo friends, on a google map (thinking mashup) based on IPaddress… as my wall paper for meebo woudl be cool too
February 20th, 2009 at 8:17 am
i love using aim so that i can keep touch with all of my frends from my old school that i never see sny more and i love talking to the ones i go to school with right now because i dont have a cell fone right now so i an go on meebo and just log in nd chat so i loe it and i cant get enough of it i sit on and chat until my sisters yell at me to get off i love love love love love meebo
February 20th, 2009 at 8:19 am
and to day is my birthday
February 20th, 2009 at 8:50 am
Twitter… twitter… and…. twitter.
February 20th, 2009 at 9:12 am
I use a combination of SMS and Yahoo Messenger and Gmail
February 20th, 2009 at 9:30 am
February 20th, 2009 at 9:46 am
olá !
Adoro o meebo! Belo trabalho!
I like very much the Meebo! Good Job!
February 20th, 2009 at 9:56 am
Every time I connect to meebo I’m getting messages which were sent to me when I was offline – and those messages always have wrong encoding in them (I chat in Russian). I have to manually copy them via clipboard and change encoding in order to read. Please fix that – it’s by far the most annoying thing with meebo.
February 20th, 2009 at 9:56 am

Hi!
meebo is one way to chat with my husband while I am at work. I like it very much
. I would like meebo to keep offline messages. ( I don’t know if it already does). Also I would like it to send a sound signal for people when they get online.
Thanks a lot!!!
February 20th, 2009 at 10:41 am
ok nice
February 20th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
i call my family on my cellphone just to keep in touch with them.
February 20th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
Is there any way you can make it easier to move ppl from list to list? All my facebook contacts pooped up in the same group and its hard to drag them all the way from the bottom to the top to put them on the correct list.
Also, I used to be able to save and edit my custom statuses but I can’t seem to figure out how to do that now. Is it still possible? If not, can you make it possible again?

AIM is the number one way I keep in touch with my friends and family, especially my college friends who are currently abroad in other countries. It allows me to know when they’re available without the possibility of waking them up (I never get the time difference right) or racking up long distance charges. Also, cell phones and emails are really important, especially in college when you’re never home. It’s how my mom and I contact each other. It’s also what entertains me when I’m at work
February 20th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
For friends I tend to use a mixture of YIM, AIM, MSN IM, and the phone… probably half and half for computer and phone. It just depends on how fast I need information or if we have time to sit down and do other things while we talk. Also, if it is late and I want to tell them something or ask a question I will IM them (and rarely email them) so I don’t wake anybody up.
For family it is almost all over the phone and a small portion is through emails. And when I cannot seem to get ahold of my mom or dad, emails always work best.
February 20th, 2009 at 1:38 pm

Hi, I am a meebo user. I find that it is very fascinating that I can access meebo from a computer that does not have msn messenger Installed. This is very important for me when I am at school or when I am simply on the internet. I keep in touch with my family, loved ones and friends through msn messenger, meebo and ebuddy. Every now and then maybe once a month I call up my friends, I am not a phone person. I love using the internet and I like how meebo is just like msn. It would be interesting to see meebo with a webcam option..does it already have one? I also like the blogs meebo has on the side.
Keep up the good work,
Meebo user.

I am currently in Africa and my family and friends are all in the USA so I use meebo so I can have all of my family and friends in one list. I also send sms from the computer to family when they are not online. Currently I use google or callwave for this feature but if meebo added it then I would have one more reason not to use services other than meebo. Sometimes I use skype or yahoo messenger with voice to talk to family and I think that would be another great feature if you could add voip service to meebo.
Overall I thik meebo is a great service and will continue using it as my all in one contact list.
February 20th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
I just wanted to say that I think everyone at meebo is doing a great job. I have meebo set to auto login as my homepage everytime I open the internet and its the only way to keep in contact with everyone. Even the meebo notifier has been helpful. Thanks again meebo staff.

All my friends I stay in touch with using LiveJournal and im. Occasionally supplemented with email. With my mom, I usually have to use the phone (we talk daily). I tried to get her onto meebo but it wasn’t easy and comfortable enough for her to adapt to using it, or even to using any im. I’m not sure what you could do to make it more so for her. She a little techno-phobic, tho she’s taken to email quite well by this point. I’d really love to see something that would attract her age group to im. She’s in her 60s and spends hours every night on her computer reading email and her online version of the The New York Times.

Some pair of teeth on you there Mikey K, you could do toothpaste ads, might be an option after meebo falls through. In answer to your question, I like to buy biscuits, engrave them with stories of what I did this week and post them to my friends and family. This way, they are kept informed, and have a tasty snack to reward them for all their reading !!!
God’s speed Mikey K, God’s speed.

As much as I advocate using technology as a means to keep up beyond the limitations of physically being in the same room, I have to admit that sometimes, it is just easier to be around each other.
I enjoy spending time with people in their actual physical presence. When that doesn’t cut it, though, technology fills the gap.
I’m a frequent IM user (always on meebo) and a frequent Twitterer. Facebook bridges the small talk gap by allowing me to keep up on relationships, tastes, preferences, and seeing what people look like.
It’s interesting, though, that because my life is so on-the-go of late, I’m not at a single workstation for long enough to log in and really, truely use any of these systems, though I love their capabilities.
So, I default to phone calls and SMS. I’m working toward a raise; once that happens, a new phone with a data plan is in the cards, and it looks like Facebook, Twitter, and IM will fit into this new hyper-mobile lifestyle.

I call each of my relatives on the weekends to catch up and tell them how i’ve been. Some conversations are very long, whereas other times i get the answering machine!
February 21st, 2009 at 11:43 am
My relatives are completely unaware of the world around them and need me to explain it to them. They think technology is unneeded and feel strongly about that idea. They want to be in a world that has more person to person interactions and less IM’ing and cell phones. I disagree but respect them and tell them as often as I can about the new technological innovations that happen without them having the slightest awareness of it.

I roleplay on Bebo and have made a lot of friends all around the world. I’m from Chicago, Illinois, and Meebo helps me keep in touch with my buddies from California, Nevada, Michigan, Missouri, England and Ireland, no matter what messaging system they have. I use the phone a lot, and, of course, I always love to hang out in person with my friends close by :]

It all depends on which relative we are talking about. One is through Myspace. Now, when is meebo going to fix the Myspace IM feature? Because it has not ever worked, not even from the beginning. It lists only 16 contacts and it lists all of them offline, even when they are not. Best of luch with your new gig. You should have fun with this bunch.

Mikey,

here is a suggestion for my previous comment- because people are constantly making meebo rooms and abandoning them, how about closing them if the host who created that room doesnt go to that room anymore. because right now the only person that can stop these people who are constantly harassing other users, is to have the host banned them. how about, if the host of the room could add their own operators, so that when the host is not around the ops can handle it. i dont even use meebo rooms anymore because of the harassment.

I am also from Brazil! Actually both of my parents are and I was born in California, but I speak fluent Portuguese. My parents are from Belo Horizonte and Sao Carlos

Yeah, prefer the mix of all. Its cool to have a talk sometimes and the sound makes a difference than the bites to give the intimacy and personal touch. There is a quality and preference aspect to the choice. A web messenger must incorporate the multiple accounts and clarity of talk apart from the chat with emotions to express. Appreciate the service that has all of this with optimized web site that is lively and irritating with all messed up advt and pop ups. Got me? Cheers.
February 22nd, 2009 at 1:27 pm
I use MSN, Skype, email, meebo, AIM, gTalk, Jabber. I do not text, facebook or myspace. However, I would love a skype feature on meebo.
Hope this helps.

well, since my family stay quite far from me, take 8 hrs.to reach ..at least, and even they have a little shop but it’s “COUNTRY” and internet cost still high, more over they’re not spirite to reach online with me, except when my nephew home – he could get they’re on cyber world.
And ‘cos sleepign problem I am recently, so “phone call” is indeed needed and they voice keep me claim and fall sleep finally.
ps. so strange, they’re rest me only 1/4 in my life time but I’m so feeling close with and their up to date voice like .. the Nicely Lullaby …
February 23rd, 2009 at 1:04 am
Hey Mikey,..
The way i electronically stay in touch with my friends & family, is I either call them, text them, Meebo, Aim, Twitter or Myspace…
February 23rd, 2009 at 2:47 am
I generally use this site to connect with my friends instead of texting (if I know I want to stay around the computer for some time). Most of the time, to be honest, I hop on here to talk to my roommate on IM with links to things that I’ve found online, without having to log into myspace/etc. That, and I think one of the huge benefits of meebo is that there isn’t all of the annoying software that goes with AIM and Yahoo Messenger, which can really slow my computer down when I had them installed. Much better ^.^

February 23rd, 2009 at 6:28 am
Hey all-
Meebo is great for me in that I can leave an im for my friends that live abroad more quickly than I can do an email. I do use email for more important stuff, but im is becoming more of my daily routine. I love how you can push files through while you chat and the game feature is a great way to have some fun.
With an ever increasingly busy lifestyle, phone calls can be just too intrusive at the workplace, so once again, im fits the bill perfectly.
February 23rd, 2009 at 6:32 am

Hey Mikey, I mainly use IM and email for keeping in touch with family. For friends, it could be anything from IM, texting, phone or email – depending on the level of acquaintance. Mostly it is an offliner.
Other than that, I congratulate you on joining Meebo. I am a graduate student and would like to join Meebo as a summer intern in May. Could you please guide me on how to go about it? I think you will get my email with the comment.
Thanks.

Generally via Facebook. A lot of my friends are in the army and don’t really bother connecting to IMs when they get back, so this is the best way to talk to anyone who is online or message anyone who is offline. EVERYONE has a Facebook.
Other than that, my Meebo is always open. I usually chat via MSN/Gmail (though I have an account in pretty much every network, people just don’t use most of em around here.)
Those are the big ones, phones for anything important or for my closer friends. I hate texting.
