Picture of elaine

Sandy, Seth, and I regularly meet on Sunday afternoons. We usually meet over lunch, set out weekly goals, and just catch up before another week begins. Today when I walked into Sandy’s apartment, I had to laugh. Sandy didn’t move from her computer chair and held her part of the 2-3 hour conversation in front of her glowing monitors consulting with Simon and keeping an eye on meebo me’s servers. It reminds me of the initial meebo launch back in September 2005 when Sandy tended to our two tiny meebo servers in true Matrix-style. Sandy spent those first two weeks perched from her office chair, picking out runaway processes and spotting memory leaks from streaming columns of numbers.

Today, Sandy and Simon are tweaking and optimizing the backend — she and Simon expect meebo me to run more smoothly this week. Thanks for everyone’s help through email, on the forum, and just for being patient while we continued to make meebo me better. We’ve got an ever-growing to-do list to get meebo me where we think it needs to be and we’re looking forward to bringing these improvements to the meebo community.

Jason (the same rockstar intern who created the meebo map) gathered some meebo me statistics on Friday, barely 48 hours into the launch. On early Friday, approximately 143,000 unique visitors had viewed a meebo widget on a page. On Thursday and Friday, around 24,000 websites hosted a meebo me widget. Of these active widgets, about 19% reside on myspace.com pages, 5% on wordpress blogs, and a handful on xanga and other sites. We also saw 29 widgets with over 1000 visitors each during this period. Just one of these super-spreaders accounted for over 14% of our meebo me traffic. You can safely guess that Sandy and Simon have been very busy :)

Given the team’s extra efforts launching meebo me, there’s nothing as gratifying as seeing the product improve and spread. When we get a chance, Sandy’s looking forward to posting a blog on the technical challenges meebo me has faced (scaling is always top of mind). Jason’s working on some up-to-the-minute stats scripts to track the meebo me traffic and we’ll keep you updated with those new numbers. In the meanwhile, please let us know if you see anything suspicious through the forum or over email. We genuinely appreciate your feedback and support!

Take Care!
-Elaine
