Everyone at Meebo.com is familiar with our flagship product, because, well, you’re using it! Here on Meebo.com you can get all your friends in one place to chat with them and quickly share links, videos, and photos. What some of you might not know is that late last year we began offering a mini version of Meebo for other websites as well.
This mini version of Meebo appears as a bar at the bottom of our partner websites. Some of our favorite sites — Flixster, Justin.tv, CafeMom, FanPop, Playlist, and others — use Meebo to power their own chat and let you bring your Meebo buddies right into their website. Well, this has been churning along for almost a year now, and the big news today is that the Meebo bar is now on over 100 websites!
One big blog using Meebo is Mashable.com. Mashable is a place to read about social media stuff, like how celebrities and news outlets are using Twitter lists or a list of the best apps on Facebook. To sign into Meebo on Mashable, look for the Meebo bar on the bottom of the page and click the button on the right. A window will pop up that lets you sign in. After that, all of your friends that normally show up on Meebo will be available to you inside of Mashable. Before you leave, try moving your mouse over any of the images inside the articles. You can then click down on the image and “drag” it to your friends on IM, or to Facebook, Twitter, or email. Whoever you shared the story with can now read the same article.
People at Meebo seem to have different favorites from the list of big sites running Meebo. Robb from our business team likes ClubPlanet, AllHipHop, 24HourHipHop, and SOHH.com. You’ll find Matt and Jian playing games on GameVance.com, just not at work, of course.
When Stephanie reviews a legal contract, she’ll put on her headphones and visit PlayList.com, Batanga.com, and MixPod.com. I love Flixster.com, the very first site to use Meebo, because I’m a huge movie fan. I just saw Paranormal Activity – too scary!!
We are really proud of what we have accomplished so far, but just like with meebo.com, we know there are lots of things left to do. So try out the Meebo Bar on some of our partner sites and tell us what you think. Do you like the drag-and-drop feature? Would being able to IM from anywhere on a website you like to visit change the way you connect with your friends? Is there a service or feature you think we are missing? Would you want something like this on your site? As always, we appreciate your feedback.
Chris

Would love to see more (better?) smileys! So MANY times my friends and I have discussed this. The one thing we miss is the sweeter cuter smileys!! It’s hard to express emotion when IMing and smileys REALLY do the trick! I LOVE Meebo, and hate to say it, but YM was way better with the smileys. Corny as it seems, the smileys add a lot to a conversation. Definitely a thought…. =]

i’m a student at oberlin college interested in the internet, data processing, social networking, and the power of being able to speak to the people visiting your website. i heard about meebo because my library uses it as a resource for students to contact a librarian, who is available at all times.
i started a blog with multiple contributors, and i’m really interested in figuring out how to use meebo to the best of it’s capabilities. people usually aren’t aware about meebo, or what it can do. i essentially need a better way for people to know that i’m using meebo. any ideas would be great
thanks

Why don’t you finally allow individuals to sign up for Meebo bar? When you just wait for companies to sign up for the Meebo bar you can probably wait until 2050 but then it’s too late. Microsoft has already such a bar at http://messenger.mslivelabs.com. Just a matter of time until the big players wake up and support multiple networks. Then it’s too late for Meebo. No new Meebo features since almost a year.
So wake up boys, release your bar to individuals. Imagine only 10% of Blogspot.com users would use your bar
Would probably be millions of users?!
Important would be that users could put it on every site – even static html / xml sites. (Blogger for example). Should be easy. Just some JavaScript code that users would have to insert. That’s all. See all the social bars. They even work on Blogspot. See Wibiya or any other of the already existing bars.
And even if users would want instant messaging on their own network (between users on their site), they could create a CNAME record “chat.site.com” and point it to your servers.
Result:
Users happy and cash for Meebo because of advertising in the bar.
PS: I don’t think there is any need is supporting this “drag and drop” feature. It’s rather disturbing then helping. If you would release Meebo bar and if it wouldn’t be possible to disable it, I wouldn’t use it for my own domain.

I currently use your instant chat feature live on my site but have been trying to get the toolbar for ages. The community of publishers loves your add on tool we just wish we could get it a little easier and faster than the process now.
Cheers on the progress thus far, like i said we love it and want it for our sites too

How come Meebo doesnt have pics of the other party reflected in the software compared to ebuddy?
November 9th, 2009 at 12:28 am
Last time when I was logged into meebo.com and tried logging to my meebo account wadja, guess what happened? The meebo account on the main window got signed off.
Yeah, that might just be obvious but I think it would be great if all the bars are integrated with meebo.com allowing one central signup ^^
Say, I’m on meebo.com and I goto flixster.com, I should still be signed in at meebo.com and flixster.com. Not really I should be able to chat on all windows at once. Just that I don’t want to be signing in and out when changing sites. I think this could easily be solved by authenticating all meebo users to one central domain regardless of the site they are using. ^^
And, why does meebo keeps getting slower? Why don’t you consider some lighter flash graphics..(perhaps gif instead of flash?)
And, I would be awaiting to see meta contacts and skype as well!
Oh yeah.. still it’s a great service ^^
Thank you guyz! It’s been months since I stopped using a desktop based multinetwork IM client…( still I have to use skype and msn at times when I want to use their video conferencing facilities)

I like the Meebo bar idea, but HATE the fact that it logs me off the Meebo main page. It should act like GTalk or Facebook chat… no matter which page you’re on, you’re automatically hooked up via chat when you’re there.

I am a web developer and it would be awsome if i could put meebo bar on sites i make. For example i just made page for cyber caffe. Alot of people would see meebo bar and maybe even use it later when they are at home ….
Pls allow individuals to sign up for Meebo bar … make it possible some how … and we all win. I dont want to search for alternatives or make my own bar becouse i reallly like meebo.

yes there is one thing i think you guys are missing is that when ur in a public room you should be able to go on cam and multiple people can go on cam at once and that is it if we can just do that then you guys have EVERYTHING unless something is updated and there is something new that comes out but other than that i believe you guys have everything there could possibly be on a chatting site and i love meebo oh and you should be able to go on cam with multiple people on different widows on meebo but other than those two little things you guys have everything and nothing less=)ily

Hi, I just loooove meebo, but, becuase I run a home based business, when someone comes into my Customer Service Page and wants to know something about a product, I have to be at the computer at all times, to answer questions, and being a Mom, of 2 tots and taking care of a business, it’s hard to be at one place all the time.
My suggestions: Please put a beep when I have an incoming message, please

Meebo is a great add-on to our website. Helps us to stay in touch with potential renters for our lovely Florida house. I’ve been looking for a tool like this forever. Finally something that works …
November 9th, 2009 at 11:34 am
My favorite use of the Meebo bar is through my university, Metropolitan State University. It allows me to chat with the on-duty librarian any time the library is open. This has saved me hours of work, and I appreciate that there is minimal expenditure of my tuition dollars on this service!

Hi, i am having some troubles when i am in a chat room. When i type a message in the field and hit enter, it looks like i submitted it in to the chatroom, but the majority of the time the messages do not go through. Therefore i am just left, lurking the chatroom! it would be awesome if you could get this fixed

The capacity to message mobile devices that aren’t using an IM app or program would be awesome. When trying to message buddies that get IMs forwarded to their phone, you still get that error message, right? Admittedly, I haven’t tried in a while.

Hey you.
I’ve been using Meebo a while, and I’ve noticed that I get warned by people who populate the room with “ASL” an’ the like…. What I’m wondering is… can you make me bulletproof? If I’m perma-mute after this, I understand. I’m just throwing it out there.
I’ll gladly discuss this with anyone, and I think the warn system is cool… but only the assiest of asses use it…
I appreciate your service. Thanks.
- Jason.

Congrats Kris, meebo is really a good alterntive for YM since it can get through our company firewall and multiple networks. But why I keep using YM is they have online games I can play interactively with 8 yr. old son while I’m relocated abroad miles away from my family. We love the Pool, Word Racer, Literati, Doodle, Toki Toki Boom. also add more emoticons. Thanks for your free service, it does makes a difference in my relationships & keeping connected with my loved ones positively ^=^

Hi there! I’ve been loving meebo for a few months, but a new utility I’d like to see added is an option to open a webpage from inside the meebo tab. I don’t know if that’s possible, but it’d be lovely to arrange a “desktop” sort of thing inside meebo, so that it would feel as if browsing and messaging were integrated. No need for meebo to act as a proxy, though.

Hi. I think having meebo everywhere while navigating is huge. The killer feature would be having it literally everywhere: in each and every site I navigate. I know is not likely for you to take over the internet like that
, but a nice firefox plugin will do, for us both firefox and meebo users.
If drag & drop features can be ported to such a plugin, it will be the state-of-the-art social sharing tool, as you can chat and share at the same time – even chat about topics you’re actually reading about. Imagine discussing on a topic literally on the wikipedia article. Yeah I’m kinda geek
Discussing another issue… I would love to edit my facebook state from meebo. Is that possible? I would love to have a twitter tool in the meebo site either. You know, meebo is currently my hub for social tools.
Keep up the good work
November 12th, 2009 at 4:09 am

its probably the best free chat service out there. I would love to see some progress on an ActionScript 3.0 API!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have used the yahoo maps AS3 API and its well made with solid documentation and examples. If you could do what they did but with ur chat component it would really allow for some cool flash/flex websites/applications.

@Edds
Who can become a partner (Meebo bar)?
Any content site, portal, media and entertainment, informational site, social network, e-commerce site, casual games site, blog, and dating service, with a ***significant volume of site traffic*** that is maintained by ***full-time employees on a daily basis***, and is ***headquartered in the United States***.
See http://business.meebo.com/publishers/ for more information.
So if you have as much traffic as Techcrunch or Mashable, you can apply there. If you don’t have 1 million unique visitors (lol) each day, you are out of luck
November 24th, 2009 at 7:40 am
Drag to share is pretty neat, the problem is it is only 1 hop viral and doesn’t make the best use of attribution.
There is also a neat WP plugin that now mimics the feature
http://www.adrian-apan.com/blog/wordpress-plugin-drag-to-share
November 28th, 2009 at 5:15 am
I just love that drag and drop feature, its great.

now a days people are going foreign countries because lack of resources in their own countries.now they are facing some problems such as lacking of food, lacking of homes.
so i would expect to do their works in their own countries then only.
