Most people who use Meebo probably don’t realize that the games and applications in Meebo weren’t written by our team. In 2007, our email boxes were flooded with requests for games, voice chat, and video chat. While we had a few favorite ideas we were itching to build, we also had heard from a few developers that they’d jump at the opportunity to build applications for the Meebo community. Instead of creating a fun game and hoping people would find it on their separate site, they could launch into Meebo’s existing community where folks were already clamoring for the opportunity to challenge their friends to a game of Checkers. A few months later, we opened up an API to outside developers and encouraged anyone to create applications for the Meebo community. And voila! nearly overnight, we suddenly discovered that we had a lot of Chess fans.
Since then, we’ve seen our applications slowly evolve into two successful categories – games and voice chat. Meebo’s environment is a little bit unique. Unlike solitaire or virtual pet games, Meebo is best suited for faster-paced, real-time interactions with your friends. So it makes sense that games like 8-Ball and applications like TokBox’s voice chat have become our most popular applications over time.
So this week, we streamlined the application list to reflect this activity. We’re replacing the rocket icon with the dice icon with the hopes that the next time you want to play Darts, you won’t have to think “launch application to play game” first. You might have already noticed that the rocket icon has been retired and that David’s dice icon is now perched at the top of your IM dialog. If you want to see your friends while you’re chatting, you can continue to use the webcam icon to launch Tokbox’s voice chat and web cam features, or use the send file icon to send files over IM.
If you didn’t know that you could play Marbles inside Meebo, we hope it will be more self-evident now. And with the holidays just around the corner, hopefully more of you will have some time to beat Jian’s high score of 105,000 in
Blockz or see if you can try to get a Scholar’s Mate in Chess (that’s checkmate in four moves).

The Video/Audio chat is not working.
It is really important to correct this bug in your website because this type of chatting became essential for communication, especially if it is rapid and efficiant.

Does this mean we can no longer use Meebo rooms to watch video clips? This feature is what attracted me to Meebo in the first place. I have been working to use it in secondary classrooms to do group annotations of clips.

I just seriously want to play Sheep Me with my friends again.
It was awesome having these little tournaments to se who beat who in it. It made me happy.
But now, i can’t play it anymore.
I can’t smile whenever I beat someone in it or utterly destroy them.

Did Meebo take away some games? Because I just noticed yesterday that several games such as the jigsaw puzzles, Christmas critters and Sheep Me are gone. I really enjoyed Sheep Me and I’m wondering if that game will still be available. Or is it permanently gone?

Fix how long it takes to load i always quit out of the games before it even starts because it takes forever to load so if u want people to play games more MAYBE you should fix how long it takes to load… I’m sure that is why a lot of people don’t play them…So could you please fix that at some point, also u need to add more games…. Meebo was a lifesaver when my laptop was trashed and I had to rely on an old computer that couldn’t handle AIM or Trillian properly – I couldn’t join group chats.
So when I got on today, I was crushed and appalled to see the group chat capability was gone from Meebo. Please put it back; it’s one of the most useful features Meebo had and getting rid of it – especially in such a clandestine manner – was a horrible idea.

bem, muitas das pessoas não sabem usar os recursos que o site pode oferecer. muitas vezes por falta de informação necessária, não é tão comum encontrar pessoas que não saiibam manipular um website assim como não possam também de uma hora para outra usar facilmente os dispositivos que o Meebo oferece!!!
Eu adoro o site Meebo porque justamente ele nos oferece suporte quando o sistema do windows live messenger está fora do ar e é tudo de bom aproveitar um site que contenha recursos suficientes para que quaisquer pessoas acessem seus comunicadores mesmo estando com problemas de erro ou de conexão!!! the new icon with the games must have a good amount of bugs right now .the reason i say this is every time i try to load it , it all but freezes and the game i chose at the time never loads.ppl still talk to me but i cant talk to them.i do so hope u fix this soon.its getting old fast and it just came out.u would think it would load at least 1 time. thanks for trying but i think i will hold out and try it again later.alot later.

Heh. The dice icon isn’t right. Opposing sides on dice always add up to 6, and you have a 4 and a 2 shown adjacent.
