Display Pictures: Display pics have been the most requested user feature for many weeks and today you’ll see that user’s with a meebo account can set and upload their own buddy icons. Yesterday, Seth asked for the artists in the meebo community to help us create more buddy icons. We received about a hundred buddy icon submissions ranging from 60’s black and white photos, to ascii art, to some really cute puppy pics (I’m a sucker for cute puppies)! We’ve compiled all of the buddy icons on a wiki and encourage anyone who feels inspired to try their hand at making a buddy icon (no larger than 96 x 96 please). We’re showcasing Shan’s disco queen in this release. However, we were overwhelmed by the contributions and are planning to make the palette larger very soon so we can showcase more of the meebo community’s artwork. Thanks guys!
Lots o’ skins: Hot pink! Who knew? Since lots of you like messaging in different colors and fonts, we thought we’d help spice up your meebo experience even more with new skins! Now you can make your background and window colors pink, green, and purple by selecting ‘Preferences’ and then selecting the color of your choice from the drop-down menu. Andrea’s daughter is already a big fan of pink.
Faster login: We’ve optimized the login process by replacing the RSA JavaScript encryption with an SSL replacement. Hopefully for most of you, you’ll see that the login process is faster by a few seconds (optimizations are always on our minds!). No worries, if the SSL method doesn’t work for you, we’ll fall back to the existing RSA encryption.
Saved away messages: Tired of typing your customized away messsage over and over again? Now meebo remembers your last away message. It’s the small things that make a world of difference.
As always, we try hard but we’re not perfect. If you spot something amiss, please let us know right away so we can get to the bottom of it. We’re always listening to the forums, blog comments, and the comments emails.

AWESOME! I woke up this morning (hahaha… ok, the daily rituals of an Internet User revealed…) and logged onto Meebo to see that purple skins were available and well, a little bit of Christmas came early today!

Hello… yes, i too have been waiting long for display pics, so its cool they are there, but right now theres a thing which sucks.. the picture can be set only simular to all networks in one meebo account, means all networks, no matter which is the login-name or network, have the same display-picture. It would be much better, if i could chnage the picture for each id.

just letting you know i had a an error today, It kept infrming me there was a network problem when there was not during log in. I am using firefox 2.0.0.1 Windows XP SP2 dell inspiron 9100 laptop.

I love the new stuff!
Although I did get a problem yesterday, I use a laptop when even I use Meebo and no one was recieving any of my messages, even when I was sending them, they thought I was ignoring them or something.. And then, it signed me out and said, “Network Error, x_lair_x is now offline” do you think you know what’s wrong? Maybe it was just my computer.. I don’t know. Anyway, you all are doing great! Thanks for making meebo!!

It’s always great to see new improvements that encourage us to use more and more meebo and meebo me
But I’m having trouble too, when I try to connect, I have a network error, but only when i’m using it through the netvibes module (it’s ok when I go to the meebo home page).
Maybe something needs to be updated in the module (because of the new encryption)?

cannot login to meebo today. screen gets stuck at signing on. alternate error is that meebo cannot make a connection. is this caused by the ssl encryption?

I don’t see the color options or the buddy icon option in Firefox 1.5.0.9, though I do see them in IE6. I usually use Firefox, and only launched it in IE this once to test — do I need to force a refresh of the page even though I have my browser set to refresh the page every time?

I can confirm that the recent change has broken the SSL version of meebo (https://www.meebo.com). I get the same error about not being able to make a connection. I can log into http://www.meebo.com without issue.
I tried to dig into the problem a little, but meebo minifies their entire output. I don’t have time to try to interpret minified text, so I can’t help.
Hopefully this is fixed soon, because I do not want to be talking over plain text.

Also, Is there any way that you can add a Color Chooser ? Im not really asking for thousands of palettes.. but something like 3 sliders – Red, Blue, Green ? The users can mix and choose their own palette !!

I just learned that ebuddy has a similar and less versitial site up to emulate your meebo site they’ve probably just seen your’s and telecom the phone company has just bought into yahoo so they are probably trying to mussel into the meebo design – sue the pants off them please I’ll back ya up on that toO… they are probably stealing somthing yo’ve copyrighted anyhow.
I’m just so happy I’ve got meeb and meebome it’s the number one on the net ever…

oH and for the 2007 lets try for meebo on mobiles there must be a feww of our users out there that can make up a Wap code for the great Meebo crew… actually there’s probably hundreds of you’s who use meebo and can come up with a code for them.
just get a wap maker and do some expreimenting. As I see it it’s just a different size window thats making it elusive to create. I am having problems with my meebo. i cannot log in. the only way i can log in is if i make myself a new account, but as soon as i sign out on that accoount i cannot login again.
I was wondering if anyone else is havving this problem or if it is just me!

I’ve been having problems logging on since you started the new SSL encryption, it tries to load forever, but it never actually signs on.. I have to exit out and come back to the page 4 or 5 times before it will work.
On a positive note:
-I love meebo.
-I love the new skins.
-And I ABOSOLUTELY LOVE that we finally have display pictures!!!

The improvements to the site are nice.
SUGGESTION: we need a cookie to remember the blog popup window status. If a user has read the blog and closed it, then it shouldn’t open again until there is new content. FWIW.

you can get display pictures by signing up then it will show u a space for a picture and it will give you options of pictures and also you can put on your own its brand new so the information will pop up when u sign in and then u click on sign in or something it will be clearly shown and then you will be able to have a display picture.

it would be great if the chat history was saved also if Im not logged into my “meebo” account.
For example, if I don’t feel like chatting with my gaming buddies, I would just log into my Google Talk account, for business use. BUT, I would like it if my chat conversations would be logged/saved thru meebo, if I’m logging in through Google talk itself.
It could do a reference check by checking my meebo account name/password, if my Google talk user name exists on my meebo account, with the correct username and password entered, logging would be logged to my meebo account, basically in “stealth”, to retrieve the logs I’d have to log into my meebo account.

I love Meebo! Much more stable than Triillian and other multi-protocol chat apps-
Only thing is Meebo is a Memory HOG!!!
Any ideas on how to reduce the load?
Also would be nice to see a Windows CLIENT on Meebo!!!

Looking at the map, there is a lot of problems with meebo. I am still having problems with login procedure. I am using Firefox 2.0.0.1, but when i try with Internet Explorer, there is no response on http://www.meebo.com it is not opening there.
