We are very happy to report that we pushed three of the most requested features tonight: Jabber & Google Talk Integration, Password Encryption, and Emoticons.
1. Jabber & Google Talk Integration – a bunch of you were requesting this in the forum. For Google Talk, we have IM support, but do not have the VoIP piece.
2. Password Encryption – privacy and security have been among the top requests. Sandy wrote a detailed posting on how we implemented encryption, and we posted our privacy principles a couple of days ago. We’ve noticed that the password encryption adds about a half second to the sign-on process for each password entered. We’re working to optimize this for the next release.
3. Emoticons – they’ve arrived! We’re currently using the emoticons from the forum. But to make things more interesting, we’ve initiated a design challenge. Send in your original designs to emoticon@meebo.com and the best will be integrated into future releases.
We’ve also fixed a few of people’s top bug reports. The two big ones were fixing the multiple MSN window bug, and fixing the “xyz is typing” bug…we think both now work, but as always, please let us know if you catch anything!
We hope the new features make meebo more useful. Please keep the suggestions coming as we’re trying to add the most requested features first.

Fantastic news!

Dear,
I only see UIN for ICQ buddies. It’s cumbersome because when somebody gets online, I have to copy him/her UIN, go to http://www.icq.com/whitepages/ and find out who he/she really is.

Love it, where do I donate?
September 19th, 2005 at 2:11 pm
I just noted that when I am working with other applications and a message arrives, meebo does not warn me about. I’d like to have meebo’s browser window to flash or something else which could attract my attention.
September 19th, 2005 at 7:44 pm
Will we be able to add/upload our own emoticons in the future?
September 19th, 2005 at 8:09 pm
I got to agree with Luciano. I like the flash part of the other messengers, or the pop-up windows.
September 20th, 2005 at 1:01 am
Hey all – thanks for the suggestions. On flashing, right nowe we scroll the name of the person who just IMd and the first line of their IM on the tab or in the task bar. A number of folks have asked for flashing, so that’s something we’ll try to figure out how to do shortly.
As to emoticons, we’re actually running a design challenge! Check out the posting in the forum (forum.meebo.com) to see how to participate.
Thanks!
Seth

I was introduced to this website today… and I must say, I LOOOVVEEEE it! I was never able to connect to AIM or MSN while at work because of my company’s firewall. In essence, I was isolated from the outside world for the longest time… Until today… Today I’ve rejoined civilization!!! THAAANNNKKK YOOOUUU!!!!

Anyone noticing issues with IE7 and RSA encryption in login now?
I have more on what I am getting, here: http://www.emergintex.com/blog/?p=96
September 21st, 2005 at 1:55 am
[...] Emergintex commented that he was having errors in IE7 with the RSA JavaScript encryption. We looked into it and discovered that IE7 script handling isn’t yet ready for prime time and that our JavaScript is too intensive for it. We’ve temporarily removed the encryption on IE7 and have displayed a warning on the log-in page. You can either use http in the clear, or using https on www will work too. We imagine when it’s out of beta the problem will resolve itself. We’ll keep a watch on it. [...]

I really needed a way to keep in touch with some people (familiars, university friends, etc.) But my company firewall blocked all I.M. available. With meebo i found a complete answer. All I.M. i knew where in the same place. Thanks meebo.
PD: The next think i would like to see in meebo is an add/delete contact button. Besides that, is perfect!

I love Meebo! Great work, guys, you’re saving my life here in Shanghai where my company blocks all the good content at work and most of the cybercaffes do the same! So now, for the first time, I get to talk to my friends from here… So, keep on the good work and I’m here for any help! Zaijiang!

I’m curious what tools you folks are using to create this great ajax app? Do you use Ruby on Rails? Is there a test/development environment you use? It would be cool to get your comments/thoughts on that on the blog, or you can send me private email too.

Hi,
It is good one; really it is too nice. Thanks for accumulating all the feature of different messengers in to a single e-messenger screen. Here I can login in to every type of messenger service one after other but logout process makes log out from all the messenger service. It will better if you make it individual logout.
Thanks for good and the great work;
Aryan

Do you also support javascript encryption for webforms.
I found an excellent example here. They encrypt with a public PGP Key.

My AIM name won’t work on meebo, it is the only internet browser I’m using, and I am not using a proxy. Meebo won’t let me log in, it says i have the wrong password, this has happened with multiple screename, and after it happens, the screename won’t work on AIM either. I am sure no one knows my password. Help!!! I don’t want to keep making new screenames.

Designing my own emoticon could be fun! It will definitely involve the smiley face getting pricked and spinning out of control like a balloon being released….hahahahah….I think that could be really cool. Sporting emoticons also spring to mind…
