Paul recently impoved our logging by diving deeper into meebo’s country and language stats. From Niger, San Marino, to Tajikistan, we’ve been examining and predicting meebo usage in some of the more exotic locations.
The award for fewest meebo users goes to Martinique where meebo has been used approximately three times in the past month (graph). In Malawi, we think something really exciting happened about four weeks ago when we saw this small African country’s meebo usage dip (maybe a holiday?) and then come back strong the following three weeks (graph). Suriname, we’re sorry if we did anything to offend you (graph). However, we welcome our new users in the Cayman Islands (graph).
Congratulations to meebo’s Bork translators which has seen another surge in usage recently overtaking Hebrew, Greek, Hindi, and Polish (graph). And on any given day, it’s a pretty good bet that you’ll find at least 100 meebo users using Swahili (graph). Whenever I tell a friend about meebo’s translations, they always ask whether anyone really uses l337. The answer? A resounding yes! While not quite as popular as Bork, l337 has been a consistent favorite (graph).
Thanks to all of the meebo translators who have made meebo reachable to millions across the globe. A few months ago, one of our volunteers, Ian, corrected and added a few phrases to meebo’s Greek translation page and found himself launched into fame in this Greek national paper’s article. If you have some time and would like to contribute to meebo, please take a look at our translation wiki. And if you’re able to help, please don’t forget to add yourself to our growing contributors list.
Take Care!

Great you guys keep a track of meebo useage. Got to learn of the site from my g/f (who may now be ex… but thats a long story)
Anyway, about 4 weeks ago i went on leave and got back a couple of weeks later. corresponds with the time you say Malawi took a dip, great… only I’m in Zambia (Malawi’s neighbour).
Needless to say, i log in to meebo every morning i’m working (beats the firewalls…. mwaaahahahaha)
keep up the good work
oh yeah, almost forgot, the pigeons on the roof… yes they’ll come back. watched “Valiant” over the weekend and was reminded how those birds WILL find their way home. Fed and exercised, the guys on the roof are keeping them

We have a tremendous population of Meebo users in Nigeria also if possible I can say we are the highest users in the African continent despite the inadequate state of our IT infrastructures and facilities.
Though, due to the inadequate IT facilities most Internet connections from Nigeria is running on foreign IP addresses.

Hi guys,
I’m from Kenya and a devoted user of meebo, I started using it once I read up on it on techcrunch.com. I actually introduced meebo to my friends at work and eventually it was adopted as a tool for teaching people how to maintain an interactive chat (i used to work in a call center), previously they used to have to install Yahoo messenger on all machines do the training and then uninstall, so you can say meebo saved the IT department (me included) a lot of headache.
Occasionally on the radio you can hear the beep of a meebo message coming through when a presenter is on air, that just makes me laugh…hahahaa..
Any chance you could publish the stats for usage in kenya?
keep up the good work
Cheers

Good day!
You mentioned a few caribbean countries using meebo… i’m a Filipino working in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and i’m a proud user of meebo. Now you can indicate that in your list of countries where there is a meebo user. If you have a 1m x 1m world map in your office i bet you wont find this country very easily coz it’s like a very small dot in the caribbean region.
Cheers to meebo!

Hey Elaine,
Im in the Caribbean and have folks in Zambia and Malawi (so this post it relevant to me 3 times over). I the most likely explanation for the Malawi dip is that Celtel Malawi [ http://mw.celtel.com ] was had a serious fire at their main office, [ http://www.cellular-news.com/story/22481_print.php ] and was off the air for almost 3 weeks. Celtel Malawi hosts the satellite links for Burco Malawi [ http://www.burcomw.com ] – one of the more prominent Wireless Broadband solutions in Malawi (a break-away ISP unit that used to be part of Celtel Malawi).

Would this be a bad time to ask how meebo plans to make money?
March 19th, 2007 at 8:40 am
I think it’s awesome that you have so many languages available for meebo. You all are truly contributing to making the world a smaller and closer community. Thank you!
On a different note, I was wondering if there are any plans to add created languages such as Klingon or Elvish. Just curious. Thanks again for all your hard work!

I love your tool and use it frequently.
One idea: would it be possible to integrate the chat of Skype, too? More and more people I know are using Skype also for chatting purposes instead of ICQ, what is very famous in Germany.
Take care,

How do we get Tolkien Elvish in the list..
Heck,
Maybe we can get http://www.elvish.org (The Elvish Linguistic Fellowship (E.L.F.) is an international organization devoted to the scholarly study of the invented languages of J.R.R. Tolkien) to help us with a translation..

Wow! Malawi? Dats cool. I’m a research consultant from Nigeria and I got to hear about meebo from a colleague who went on holiday to the Uk last Christmas. Meebo rocks.
Keep up the good work. Especially liked your spuf of the Volkswagen ad.
Great stuff.
March 20th, 2007 at 5:49 am
“The award for fewest meebo users goes to Martinique where meebo has been used approximately three times in the past month.”
Since I live on Martinique and use Meebo EVERY DAY, from TWO(2) sign-on pages (two different Meebo login ids!), this would result in far more than three USES per month — so I have to question (and you probably should be, too!) whether your counting software is in the least bit accurate.
It may just be a linguistic problem in the way you describe it: you speak of “fewest meebo USERS” (emphasis mine) but in the same “breath” you speak of USES. It is quite possibly true that I am the ONLY Meebo USER in Martinique, but I am an “addicted” user and so probably use it as much as 10 or 20 “normal” users.
The above just FYI.

I’m one of the meebo users based in Malawi.
Nice to see some coverage of my country which is a very rare thing if Madonna is not in the country
I could possibly confirm the reason for the dip if I knew the exact dates for those weeks but it’s most likely due to a long weekend.
I gotta blog about this!

hey guys, i’ve been surprised not to have seen as many pigeons lately. i heard some footsteps on our roof a few days ago and suspect that our vector control agent was busy reseeding the traps. i’ll let you know when they return.
appreciate the comments about showing more graphs for countries and locations. we have graphs for every country so shouldn’t be a problem showing off a few more. i’ll see what we can do for the countries already mentioned.
thanks for the feedback!

ok.. u guys are great and meebo is just super!
but right now i am posting something that is very very off topic..
ok, i am doing it: this morning arrived work i opened my browser and with it came out my default perzonalized google page..an idea came out.. and i was wondering if through all the google stuff that allow us to personalize the google page there was some sort of meebo stuff, even like a simple login mask, so i looked and basically come out just a sort of thing, that is an iframe with the meebo page in it.
so why dont u guys develop some sort of stuff for google?? aaaand if it is needed i d like to help u guys to make something like that.. if u are too much busy eheh
ok i am done..
Regards
Donnie

I’m look for a man from Malawi named Hudson Lilongwe or Longwe. He was in an English language program at the University of Michigan in the late sixty’s. He spent a weekend at our home in Fenton Michigan. He would be in his mid 60’s . His Malawin name means (at last) because parents were teased because it took them so long to have their first child. If anyone has information about him please add to this blog. Thanks
