Its been awhile since we’ve given you all a stats update on meebo, and with the advent of meebo rooms, there’s lots of interesting data to share!
You all may remember from last year that summers tend to bring a dip in traffic to meebo. Geez…with that nice weather out there, go figure! This summer has been a little different, however. I guess a bunch of you are finding pretty unique ways to use rooms!
In the last thirty days, 7.65 million unique screen names have successfully made it into meebo. Yikes. When you guys get in, you spend a long long time. You all spend, on average, 60-70 minutes per login. The average isn’t really that telling though…actual use is on a U-shaped curve. A bunch of you spend just a few minutes with meebo while a bunch of you spend hours on meebo. So that begs the question, how much time do you all keep meebo in front of you as opposed to running in the background? On average, 43% of the time you’ve got meebo open, you’re interacting with it. Nice! Oh, and better yet…what if you total all of the time that you spend logged into meebo every day? A mere 240 years or 126 million minutes daily!! Wow.
Another neat stat: how many messages would you guess you’re all sending back and forth every day? Between meebo rooms and IM, you’re all moving a measly 126 million messages back and forth, 15 million of which are in meebo rooms. That’s ontop of about 100,000 rooms that you’ve all created. Pretty darn neat!
Have a great day everyone!
Seth

July 11th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
Awesome!!!! I love meebo.
I had been using desktop messenger service like Pidgin or Trillain etc. Now, just meebo and the best part is, i can access the chat logs from anywhere…Sweetttt Na…
Thanks guys and the numbers are pretty nice!!!!
July 11th, 2007 at 2:56 pm
That’s a GREAT HONKIN’ buttload of messages. how much hardware do you have supporting it, and how big a connection to the backbone? If that’s not too geeky to discuss.
July 11th, 2007 at 3:25 pm
i agree with brenna im mean come on get real orange will never be green also and plus the shades an horrid!!
July 11th, 2007 at 3:26 pm

Go Meebo! (On the stats that is.) Nice I.M. Nice crew of people you seem to be.
You’ve touched on a pet hate of mine though.
You do know it is Winter in the Southern Hemisphere when it’s summer in the Northern, right?
Maybe the lack of dip this summer is more international usage of Meebo?
OK, OK, there are not many of us down here, so probably not, but still. Every time I see a supposed INTERNATIONAL web site saying “due out this summer” or something like that, my blood boils… Are they really that badly educated, or just narrow minded or what?
Seth: You are mostly forgiven. Your traffic is surely Nothern Hemisphere skewed so your comments are fair enough.
Consider yourself warned though!
From Down-Under.
July 11th, 2007 at 5:33 pm
I wonder how many tons of harmful ozone destroying emissions meebo has caused. There should be a stat on that. Maybe even a “green friendly” sticker somewhere on the meebo homepage to make me feel better. That meebo is environment friendly.
Still waiting for my flux capacitator.
July 11th, 2007 at 5:59 pm
FYI, “So, that begs the question…” is improper use of that phrase. Begging the question is a logical fallacy; “asking” or “raising” the question is what you want to say there.

July 11th, 2007 at 8:47 pm
[Sorry bout the stupid name. I just don't feel comfortable with giving info like that. :\ ]
Pretty cool. That’s a lot of numbers. xP :3
July 11th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
sorry, this is not really for this post. But I noticed something wrong with the font colors. If you click on a particular color, it gives you the color that is next to it and not the one you chose… don’t know why or if its only from my computer
July 12th, 2007 at 12:00 am
Amazing stats =) really really impressive. If only we could use 1% of that ‘logged in’ time to do some creative work, the world would be a totally neater place.
July 12th, 2007 at 12:50 am
So most people have Meebo open for hours, huh? I guess that means that, like me, a lot of people are using Meebo to circumbent their company’s firewall
No MSN/AIM/YIM at your desk? Just open Meebo
Bunch of slackers…
July 12th, 2007 at 1:41 am
wow,

July 12th, 2007 at 2:09 am

i am so happy to use this wap sat bcs so vast an populer an interesting
July 12th, 2007 at 5:05 am
Interesting stats.
I”m one of the folks that has it open for hours. I use firefox at work and I leave Meebo, and Gmail open all day while there. I’m not necessarily doing anything on it, but it’s there. Your service has been a treasure. No longer do i have to deal with the pain of having to use the webmessenger service from MSN. I find their client to be cumbersome and annoying.
Thanks again Meebo!
Regards,
Rorius

Hi there, thanks for all the effort so far. You did a tremendous job, guys!
Just one little question – hope it’s not too much; could you please remove anything from the website that could indicate that your site is a messaging services? Ie, by having the term “message” removed, or something like that.
Because my server blocks anything related to YM, MNS, and other messaging services. This meebo initially helped me a lot to overcome that problem. But now, that privillege is history.
Thanking you in advance,
July 12th, 2007 at 5:29 am
Those stats are very impressive indeed. I’m just wondering out of curiousity—how are you all doing on server capacity with all of these rooms and messages flying back and forth at what seems to be at least one message/minute?
July 12th, 2007 at 5:45 am
I love seeing this infromation. This is a great tool and I especially enjoy the information that is shared from the Meebo staff when I log in daily. Kudos!
July 12th, 2007 at 6:04 am
personally, i like meebo a lot, but i think you guys are pushing to be just like AIM! i mean come on, the pencil when someone is typing? i like it, but AIM’s had it for everrr. i love mebo becasue it’s easy and you dont need to downlaod a thing to use it, and its free…
July 12th, 2007 at 6:10 am
I wonder if it’s because more and more ppl are stuck inside an office building doing an internship for the summer…like me :-\
July 12th, 2007 at 6:15 am
Very interesting and impressive stats, you have all done a great job and have a lot to be proud of!
My current employer has blocked all IM programs/ports and meebo is the only way I can quickly communicate with off-site & off-shore team members. Most of the time I’m on for 8+ hours a day with it running minimized. For some reason my message alert quit working so I’ve been experimenting with it by running it on active desktop. I wish I could get the message sound working.
July 12th, 2007 at 6:39 am
ok stop whinning because aim and meebo is the same thing and there is nothing differnet !!!

Wow…Those are some large numbers…lol I use meebo a LOT, but not necessarly for the meebo rooms, but I have a question, what happened to the feature where you can like save Away messages?!? That was A LOT better than like having to write a new one everytime… but yeah, and like someone mentioned, but the font colors are a little messed up, like they come up the wrong color, I’m not trying to complain, just wondering… lol
But AWESOME job on the site, it’s probably one of the most original sites I’ve been to in a veryyyyyyyyy long time!

Meebo is an easy way to chat without having to log on to aim but the font colors are really messed up. I clicked on the pink and it was maroon! Please change them back because I can’t live without pink!!!!
July 12th, 2007 at 8:34 am
OK…some of the things on meebo are great.but some of the other ones are not so good.like someone else said if you change the font color it never changes ,and also i dont like that if you im some1 then they dont answer and later if you im them again it says what you said before. And also with the away messages you cant even save it you have to make a new one every time, which is annyoing, but other then that i love this site it is so easy to use
July 12th, 2007 at 8:47 am
Oh, meebo chat is the best i have ever seen, is where all the chating point is……….hahaha. Anyway am the Wallace D Don from D.K.C show town city real.

July 12th, 2007 at 12:07 pm
well I run it in the background days at a time …….just to always have a live conncetion in case anyone needs me …at work not at home ….its neat and a great way to keep in touch ….thanks great site
July 12th, 2007 at 12:09 pm
i really like the new features.
i would just like it if u could hit enter in an away message and put a second line.
is there any way to put a second line?
July 12th, 2007 at 12:24 pm
I don’t know why that little letter seems like a good thing to you, Seth.
Personally, it makes me feel like a lazy fata**, and that’s because i hardly even get on meebo at all.
240 years daily??? *shakes head in disgust*

Hello everybody, I’m a Screenwriter and I am looking for people who can help me. I’ve written a script for the next “Vacation” movie with Chevy Chase and it’s called “Hawaiian Vacation”, and it’s just hilarious! If you know anyone who would like to read it, or if you would like to read it, please email me at christianeliasent@hotmail.com and I’ll shoot you over a copy of the script. The cast has read it and they want to participate too! Please leave your message in my email inbox and I’ll look forward to reading your response! Sincerely, Christian

July 12th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
I do believe that you U-shaped curve of average use would be far flatter if there were less of us having dropped connections. Correct me if I am wrong, but every time my connection to meebo is dropped, your counter will consider me a new log-in every time I reconnect…? That would explain why you have such a high number of shorter log-ins. If that is true, then from what I understand in the forums, there are quite number of people who endure frequent drops who will contribute greatly to the U-curve.
July 12th, 2007 at 5:21 pm
Great job, I’ve been using Meebo for a little over a year, it’s been fun to track your progress….I actually keep it running all day at work, doh!
To all the people who miss using the Pink font:
Maroon is the new Pink!!
July 12th, 2007 at 6:40 pm
i havent read any other comments. I’m new (as of summer) to meebo, but I’d like to see functionality for partial text styles, aka, one bold word, so the whole message isn’t bold.
I’m loving meebo, keep up the great work.
July 12th, 2007 at 11:43 pm
the room was very fine, on my case i used [yahoo messenger] only one day, when i try to log on in the next time i couldn’t, i tried several time, but now bored to try,
only the below fonts display in my screen,

where could be the error?
July 12th, 2007 at 11:54 pm
Meebo is great, but the “invisible” function doesn’t work!!! I log in as invisible and people can see I got online! Only when I am already online and then decide to become invisible it seems to work. But logging in as invisible doesn’t work!!!
July 13th, 2007 at 4:03 am
