New release!
Onyx skin – David surprised us with a black Onyx skin concept (screenshot) that he had been secretly working on and we’re happy to see his pet project go live! He and Brendan have been finishing the graphics and instrumenting meebo’s CSS and JavaScript over the last few weeks. To see it, select ‘preferences’ from the background console and choose ‘Onyx’ from the drop down skin menu.
Speedy sign off – Sometimes less is more. We heard reports that the sign-off confirmation dialog was taking too long to display and that you wanted to sign off more quickly. We’ve removed this extra step and now signing off is speedier than ever. Thanks for the suggestion!
meebo rooms updates – We’ve made several meebo rooms touch-ups. Christian improved the featured rooms contrast so it is to read. We’ve also broadened the featured categories to include fun topics like anime, offbeat, and games based upon room activity we’ve seen cropping up. Second, Andreas and Jian have improved the ability to warn users so it is more obvious who has been warned and how many times. Third, you’ll see related room suggestions appear so it’s easier to find rooms that you might be interested in. In the last weeks, meebo rooms have grown tremendously – we see more messages received in meebo rooms than in any other network protocol!
Improved typing notifications – In the last release, we introduced the typing pencil icon in the buddylist. Shortly thereafter a number of you asked if we could also have a pencil icon the IM window status area – done!
Maintenance and bugs – Behind the scenes, we’ve made some dramatic changes to our core JavaScript files so that it will be easier to make feature and performance updates in the future.
Thanks again to our beta users who have been helping us find bugs behind the scenes and to everyone who has helped out with suggestions in the blog, forum, and via email. Keep the ideas and comments coming!
Take Care,
-Elaine

Hi, I’m loving Meebo, especially Meebo Rooms that we can personalize. It’s the best thing I’ve ever come across messenger trends on the web. However, there is a frequent network disruption- which is strange because none of my other programmes, messengers or web pages have trouble – my server is very good. When the network goes on disruption, you loose the room you’ve created on Meebo. Could you please tell me what the reasons for that could be?

Is it because of the new release that i can’t log in no matter how much i struggle to?
Since yesterday, neither at home nor at work i can not log in to my account. I wonder why. Cleaning cache, making ctrl+f5 or else, just doesn’t work.
When i write my username and password; which actually is on “remember me” mode so i don’t need to re-type everytime, it just says “Signing on. Please wait…” I don’t remember seeing “Encyrpting passwords…” message this time.
Also, i both tried using wwwl.meebo.com and wwwm.meebo.com just in case it was a server based problem but that didn’t work out either.. But whilst writing these lines, and meanwhile trying www17 and www34 servers, at last www18 worked for me.
Weird, eh?

Hello,
first of all, great job guys (and girls offcourse!)… love meebo!!
Because I usually use meebo for msn messaging, i have a small question concerning the MSN feature.
Is it possible to display the extra line that people using msn can type under their nickname (personal text, not sure how it’s called in English, using dutch version of MSN) ?
Changing is not really necessary for me, but to just check out what the line is of other people would be great!
Thanks guys, keep up the good work!

Guys, any idea if you will be linking up with Skype any time in the future? This on the roadmap?
July 23rd, 2007 at 5:48 am
Love the Onyx skin!
The feature I’d love to see is some kind of widget or other small program that would make an alert visible outside of the browser when I have an IM. Maybe something in the system tray? I love not having to run the individual IM clients, but I wouldn’t mind running something with a small profile so I know when I’m being meeboed and firefox is minimized.
July 23rd, 2007 at 5:51 am
Thank you thank you thank you for the skin. … Hoorah.
July 23rd, 2007 at 5:52 am
These updates sound great, but when, oh when are we going to see the option to assign different message sounds for different users or groups? I need to know without looking whether I can ignore the message.
July 23rd, 2007 at 6:06 am
The updates are awesome, but I think that for the profile for aim is too small it’s 1,000 characters and I use a lot more than that so if you could make it bigger, a lot bigger than that it would be great. I agree about the different message sounds for different users (not groups though) because I like to know who’s iming me and if I should ignore them or not.
July 23rd, 2007 at 6:13 am
Maybe it was just a fluke but when I switched to the onyx skin it didn’t all take right away. My background kept the old color and only my buddy list changed to onyx. I had to log out and bakc in again to get the full skin to take.
July 23rd, 2007 at 6:37 am
Speaking of skins, a silver one would be great. I love the Onyx, but sometimes I don’t feel so dark!
July 23rd, 2007 at 6:51 am

I just logged into the wwwm server right now and Onyx doesn’t show up as an option.
July 23rd, 2007 at 8:03 am
Great updates. I am a faithful user of meebo, and use it all the time at work. However, I don’t want to sound like a complainer, but i’ve noticed since the update of showing the number of warnings in chatrooms, some people have been constantly warning everyone at random, and it’s becoming quite annoying. I think this’ll lead to many people getting kicked out of chatrooms unjustly. It feels like a new way to spam and annoy people, and we have no control over it.
PS – Love the Onyx, i change the skins every few days, and now there’s one more choice to choose! Thankss =]
July 23rd, 2007 at 8:20 am
I think this is a great update also.. I don’t mind the warnings, and Onyx is awesome!

instead of my IMs and buddy list showing up in one window, meebo is opening separate windows in my browser for each IM I receieve. was this part of the new release, or am I having computer issues?
July 23rd, 2007 at 10:06 am
hey this is heather again. i checked out the onyx, and maybe its just me, but i think that the onyx is really sad. its realy dark, and it kinda depresses me, but it is a good idea for other people.

July 23rd, 2007 at 11:39 am
yeah theres actually a pretty frequent glitch on onyx (maybe all themes? never tried the other ones) with the background app (not just background image) staying in the standard theme. all that seems to switch most of the time is the buddy list and im windows.

I love the new skin. I guess people are sticking with it because it’s unique amongst the other skins. I wonder, when will you use my idea for user-made custom skins? Because I have some great ideas as to how Meebo should look.
July 23rd, 2007 at 6:01 pm

July 23rd, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Onyx is gre at. makes it more discreet for me to IM in the office. Can we change the buddy list to grey too??
July 23rd, 2007 at 9:11 pm
Yeah meebo is cool except theirs one thing really crappy about it. you can only talk to people if you are on the meebo page. you cant surf the net unless u open a new page.thats a pain in the butt. So do u think u could make meebo have something like aim were u can sign on and minimize the contacts box and go off the meebo page???????????
July 23rd, 2007 at 10:08 pm
Hi! I’ve been using Meebo for a while now, and there’s one issue that has been bugging me for… well, months.
Making chat rooms (at least using MSN) is a pain. NOt only that but inviting ew people to a chat room usually fails and thus I end up asking someone who’s not on Meebo to invite instead.
And when someone makes a chat room from MSN IM, sometimes I end up ‘ghosting’, basically I appear to be in the chat room, but I don’t get any indication that I am, and any messages I send to the person who created the chat, send to the chatroom, making it seem to them that I’m actually there. This leads to situations where I think I’m being ignored because of lack of feedback.
Another lack I’ve had with them is the lack of chat group history. Not only does meebo not save the history of chat rooms, but it starts erasing messages after it’s been going for too long. Since I usually need to save group chats like this, it has lead to problems where I miss out on the beginning of the chat.
I know you guys have been putting a lot of work into the Meebo group rooms, but any chances you can smooth out the common chat groups? I’d be eternally greatful.

July 24th, 2007 at 12:39 am
Hi,
Really like the new skin.
One little ‘bug’ The skin is not painted when I out-pop the chat window.
The buttons are in cool Onyx style. The rest of the window (background etc) is standard skin style.
Regards.

Thanks

I LOVE THE NEW ONYX SKIN, yeah!
July 24th, 2007 at 6:12 am
The new skin is great! My display here at work has a pretty low contrast ratio, so this makes Meebo MUCH easier on the eyes! If I were a little nit-picky, I’d want to point out that the “alert” flash on IM windows might need some polish in the antialiasing– I notice some white artifacts around the buttons. But that’s nothing– what a breath of fresh air this is.
Noticed a comment from “Nancy” mentioning trouble logging into the AIM service recently, and I’ve experienced the same thing– my other services are fine, but AIM gives me lip from time to time. Strange…
July 24th, 2007 at 6:19 am

July 24th, 2007 at 7:14 am
Thanks so much for adding the is-typing pencil to the IM status line! It’s very gratifying to see your team responding so positively to user feedback!
On the Skins: When I “pop-out” the Buddy List and IM windows in Firefox those don’t get “skinned”. Haven’t tried it in I.E. Hard to fix? Could you, please?
Thanks again for staying attuned to user suggestions & feedback!
July 24th, 2007 at 7:52 am
hey meebo gang… been heads down at work myself so… haven’t been much help to you guys. Love the ONYX, but want to say congrats on the latest release… and echo the sentiments of some of the posts… ROOMS are very cool, but make sure that the core platform is stable and bugs are worked out there too. I’ve seen an increase of connection issues over the course of the past couple of releases… that is the core of people accepting/using MEEBO so… make sure you continue to pay attention that. GoMEEBO!

The images in the Onyx theme need to be touched up, they are too rough.
July 26th, 2007 at 10:28 am
I think there should be various background colors available for the font. Several of my AIM buddies type in white, and I constantly have to ask them to change their font color so I can read it.
