Spring has finally warmed up Mountain View’s Castro street. Last Friday the sun was irresistible and we decided to trade our mice and cell phones for frisbees and blankets. We headed down the street to Cuesta Park to enjoy a day of barbecue, soccer, frisbee, and kickball. Andrea, Sue, Corey, and Sandy manned the barbecue pit. Andreas, David, Greg, Martin, and Natalie played a few rounds of soccer. Christian tossed the frisbee to PJ, his seven-year-old German Shephard. And everyone joined in later for an afternoon game of kickball.

A few of us were a little sore after running up and down the field all afternoon. Enjoy the pics and look for a new release coming out this week!

You have to understand that in Silicon Valley many web companies are run like this, i.e. glorified kindergartens, because the Stanford kids they hire have been treated like children most of their lives. And Silicon Valley is particularly insulated from the real world. People drive alone in their gas guzzling cars (with peace stickers on them) and complain about the traffic and the war like there is no connection. This is Wonderland. Let’s not worry about where that hot dog came from. Climb a tree! Look at me!

Hey this is a good suggestion for your next update. Can you add a way for people to find each other? There are alot of empty rooms, it takes a long while to find a room with people so maybe you guys can fix that. something to the site that shows currently active rooms.. Hi, beautiful pics and it sounds like a fun day. I like it…thought the tech boom was long over, but it seems there are still companies with the same kind of culture. I really think you should make it a habit to have a informal company lunch meeting followed by an outing every week… those who don’t want to can simply take off right after lunch. It really helps the employees bond and de-stress, and is a great way to start the weekend. A lot of Silicon valley companies I worked at did this, and productivity does not suffer since most employees put in more than the standard 40 hours anyways. In fact, productivity actually goes up with happier employees.
I am happy that you all had a great time but a little bemused that a light game of soccer led to people being sore (don’t you guys exercise??) and that you felt the need to publicize such a non-event.

Wanted to thank you for bringing me back to the instant chat world I enjoyed 9 years ago and that was how I met my wife on ICQ. By now, I have been married for 6 years and had two handsome sons. After that I stopped to use it partially because I had wife and partially I was frustrated to manage different accounts like Sandy had. Finally I gave up the fantastic tool of socializing.
Your Interaction Designer position on your web is a really cool position for anyone who wants be a part of creating best user experience. I am really really interested as an experienced IT/Customer experience manager. Let me suggest a few things to improve our meebo. On the product side, speaking of the web side bar, please shrink the spaces of chat use/member names so user can have more space to browse and will not trade meebo for surf space. In general, since user is only going to use a small portion of their screen space for chat while doing other things please make the “BuddyList” &”Message” boxes as compact as possible. If meebo can make the boxes out of browser frame and allow them to dock anywhere on the monitor or have a transparency function so it can be on top of other applications like MS WORD would be huge for users’ convenience. If meebo can improve its visual clarity would be another plus since most of the current web applications have a wash-out look comparing with computer based programs. Vivid and clear look will help users’ sore eyes.
From business development perspective, meebo is on the money exactly by focusing on simple and core needs of users. Therefore, security is the the 3rd top priority after messaging and web. Ensuring and guaranteeing message contents could not be breached at all times and promoting that would add more professional/business chat users directly to meedo chat than AIM or Yahoo. Then meebo will see a rapid jump on free and paid company subscriptions for a much larger user base and steady cash flows to support meebo’s growth. Professionals like traders and medical staff will sure jump on meebo after it supplying additional look and feel to fit more distinguished user group and such win will definitely help meebo’s potential AD market.
Soon, with the popularity of web on mobile, SMS will become obsolete, this is where meebo’s sweet spot going to be, please put 50% of the resources to build meebo on the top 3 mobile platforms. From users’ point if their friends have meebo, they are not going to pay a cent for SMS anymore. At the end, your language translation is a good start comparing with competitors now. meebo may need to think about one day, two business partners could communicate with each other seamlessly over mobile phones with meebo on and chat in their own languages and the chat could be translated instantly over meebo. Imaging about the one language world. meebo will become the ultimate tool of communication.
