We had our first meebo meetup at the Borders in Santana Row last week. Definitely a fun event. Elaine & Sandy were working out of Elaine’s apartment in San Jose and got there pretty quickly. Meanwhile, at 7pm I was stuck in a traffic jam on 280 and called Sandy for directions on the local streets. Only 10 minutes late to our first meetup…not terrible :)

This particular Borders is pretty busy, and of course there was no available table in the cafe. We ended up standing in a corner chatting with folks who stopped by to say hello.

Bijan drove down from San Francisco to meet us. He’s working on a new portal and wanted to know how hard building meebo was. Henry came with two other friends and is working on starting a new kind of photo sharing application that will have both a software and web component.

Scott came by to say hello, and came bearing gifts! The first meebo t-shirts!! Scott created a “meebo shop” on Cafe Press to make the t-shirts. If you want any other meebo gear, just head over here. Thanks Scott!

A friend of mine, Mike, who graduated from Stanford bschool last year came by to say hello. It was very good to catch up with him. I’m glad that not everyone over there has forgotten about me!

Finally, a few friends of ours (who can often be caught on the ultimate frisbee field with Sandy) also dropped by to say hi. Hey Kat!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by. We’ll definitely hold another get together in a couple months, hope to see some of you then :)

    Hi there,

    A few ideas I’d like to share. It could be of interest to introduce a meebo account. This would allow to
    - store logins and passwords, especially for those with multiple IM accounts;
    - store chat histories;
    - build a meebo chatroom;
    - provide personalized services – might help your business model
    - …

    All the above could be encrypted using the meebo account information (password, login…) for privacy.

    Undistilled thoughts :)

    I use your service almost every day and it works nicely. =]

    But:
    # Some special char like “]” ge scribbled it produces the code “& # 9 3 ;” (without the spaces). Is that something you can fix?
    # Is it possible to have multipla accounts in i.e. MSN or ICQ?
    # Is it possible to sort my contacts in some way? Where do you collect the groups?

    Thanks a lot =]
    /Andreas

    dear dear! do you know what a great initiative you have taken? :D as far as i know, google was one of the very few service providers who showed some of the powers/potentials of web applications. and your work, that’s brilliant! it shows us-the novice programmers, the potentials for web applciations; insipires us to gather some knowledge about web application development. time will come soon, when people will use the desktop applications the least. and we will share all our knowledge to make a world a better place. keep up! friends!!! we look forward to your future development. and offcourse, it would be nice for the non-believers, to expose the source code to the public. so that, they know their personal informations are safe when they deal with you.
