Whew! The last release was pretty big for the team. The meebo accounts required a hefty backend infrastructure change and a brand new JavaScript ui framework. We started rolling it out slowly on Tuesday to look for any early signs of trouble. By Friday, we were monitoring the machines, eyeing the forums, and responding to incoming emails. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to write in and point out bugs and suggest improvements. It’s been really helpful.
For starters, Cameron wrote in and pointed out that the new join dialog text is askew in the Linux version of Firefox (love the screenshot!). We made a few adjustments to the sign out process in this release and Hari suggested including a confirmation dialog before signing out to improve it further. Illi registered a meebo account but wants to be able to individually sign off accounts. As we expected, our registration process has a few kinks to work out too. Some people didn’t realize they need to register IM names with their meebo accounts and found themselves staring at a blank buddy list at the end of the registration process. We’re exploring ways we can make this more intuitive. We’ll update the join dialog, confirmation dialog, and registration process in the touch-up release coming in the next week or two. Individual sign-out is at the top of the list for the following release.
Now we’re taking some time to catch our breath. We’ll spend the next few days tidying things up and pushing a few bug fixes before moving on to bigger and better features (feel free to send in suggestions!). We’re also attending to some long neglected odds and ends on the meebo site such as touching up copyright dates and updating the about page with Jian and Andrea’s bios.
Glad to hear everyone is enjoying the new meebo accounts. Keep the comments coming – we turn to your feedback and suggestions when planning what comes next!
Thanks!
-Elaine

This one of the coolest sites I have ever come across. Especially the fact that it bypasses all the work firewalls. Keep up the great work.
February 20th, 2006 at 12:41 am
First of all: Love the site/service.
Can’t choose between Miranda and Meebo when I’m home…
Now for the but: It seems that when I post an e-mail address to a Yahoo contact, they get a “mailto:” with it. Is this design or flaw? Or maybe a designed flaw?
February 20th, 2006 at 1:21 am
Elaine, thanks for your light-speed responding. (last blog entry)
I’d like to update more details about the “invisible” issue here:
1.) Though it shows “Available” in buddy list while I have “invisible” boxes checked, in fact, they – the IM accounts – are all invisible. I have tried out this.
2.) Only way to make the IMs “from invisible to available”(if you don’t want to uncheck the “invisible” boxes), is to change your status from “I’m available/invisible” to anything eles, like “away from computer” or anything but the top 2 status option. After that, when you set status to “I’m available” again, you are really “available” now.
Then, your IMs are truly turn to “visible” or “Live” to your IM buddies, which means: if you didn’t act this way, they will not recieve your messages, even you try to change your status from “available” to “invisible” and back to “available” several times.
And all these try-out I test with msn messenger(win32) v7.5.xxxx.
klstwn – Out~

Emotants are not available when signing on to accounts through Meebo. Is this something that will be available in the future?
February 20th, 2006 at 7:04 am
thx for the site! user accounts are quite nice… but seems like you don’t use cookies :/ i have to relogon everytime i close the window…
have you looked into using openid? might make things simpler for you and us…
February 20th, 2006 at 7:06 am
Just a question…. when I signed up with an account, I put the wrong password in for one of my messenger services. I can find no way to adjust my account info to show the correct password…so every time I log in, it doesn’t sign that one in. Any idea?
February 20th, 2006 at 7:39 am
Keep up the great work guys, I have been using your service since the start and love that I can now sign in to all my accounts with one password
February 20th, 2006 at 7:45 am
I’m new to Meebo, but I do like it and appreciate the creative efforts. I really like the single login. I am curious, however, is there a way to select a word or phrase and change the font size on that word or phrase, without changing the entire entry?
I look forward to see how Meebo will evolve – thanks again for your hard work.
February 20th, 2006 at 7:53 am
How about a chat room? I’ve told many of my friends about Meebo (which is awesome by the way) and we all use it. But, sometimes we want to chat together….I would love to see this in the future.
Keep up the spectacular work!
(and I love your updates…makes me feel like part of the team!)
February 20th, 2006 at 8:10 am
i have said this several times but just wondering if we will be able to change our nicknames on MSN any time soon? Thanks!

February 20th, 2006 at 8:47 am
Nothing, coz this is my first time here… hmm….
February 20th, 2006 at 8:58 am
Tabby, no problem. When you are logged into meebo, select the rightmost icon on top of the buddy list (the meebo account icon). This will pull up a meebo account dialog and you’ll be able to update your passwords and account info. Hope this helps!
klstwn thanks for more details. We’re looking into it!

I just had one suggestion for meebo.com. It would be nice to be able to open multiple sessions within one browser window….like to sign on to two aim screen names at the same time in the same window.
February 20th, 2006 at 9:13 am
Just want to say this is a great service you guys are providing! =] And I wish you guys the best in this venture and anything else you decide to do in the future. I discovered meebo recently (a few days ago) and I already love it. It’s much easier to use than AIM and uses less memory, thank you very much! =]
The only thing I would suggest since I have two SNs for different purposes is the feature of being able to sign off one SN instead of both SNs signing off and/or being able to have two different away messages even though both SNs are online. This is just a suggestion but I hope you will consider it, thanks again for this great site! =D
February 20th, 2006 at 9:14 am
I can’t seem to get the meebo account to work properly. I’m sure that I put my individual account information in properly, but when I sign in using the meebo account, I get two “offline” accounts (AIM and Yahoo!) and one that continually is “attempting” to sing on (MSN). Everything works fine when I sign in as I always did in the past. A bug perhaps?
I’m using meebo in Firefox (version 1.5) on a Mac running Tiger (10.4.5). Is there anything else you need to know?
February 20th, 2006 at 9:23 am
Hi Chris,
Hmm… I’d check your accounts pane (you can access it through the top right icon on the buddy list). Make sure that ‘Connect on startup’ is selected for all of your accounts. This would explain why it seems like it’s always offline.
Take Care,
-Elaine
February 20th, 2006 at 9:26 am
I was using Meebo for a few weeks and then this past week it stopped working. I am using IE7beta which I suspect to be the problem. Any ideas? The problem is this: When I try to log in it says “Signing On. Please Wait…” in the middle of the screen but it never signs on. I’ve tried logging into just one of the clients and it still doesn’t work.
Thanks.
February 20th, 2006 at 10:03 am
I’ve already read this suggestion many times but it’d be really great to be able to change our nicknames on msn, thanksssss!!!!!
February 20th, 2006 at 10:49 am
You guys are doing great work.
Any plans to support Skype? If you do that, you’re the answer to my IM prayers…:-)
February 20th, 2006 at 10:49 am
Well Elaine…. I am so proud of the time you and your co-workers have put in to this site it is absolutely amazing! I love the fact that i can sign on my multiple accounts at the same time!!! keep it up!… oh one more suggestion maybe like once a week or sumthing we can have a prize give away or sumthing to make it more fun for meebo users!
February 20th, 2006 at 11:40 am
Yes, I need skype support too. Btw, you all are doing a great service to us officegoers.
Thumbs up to you all!
February 20th, 2006 at 11:53 am
kudos to you coming straight from the Philippines!
hi guys! great job for the site! i’ve nothing but praise for you creativity and ingenuity for coming for this site.
MY HATS OFF TO YOU ALL!
anyway, just one suggestion…could it be possible that you find a way for us, users, to rename our IM contacts just like i can with YM instead of just seeing the regular user id’s?
thanks! keep up the great job!
February 20th, 2006 at 11:57 am
Hello! Congrats on such a cool web page. Finally I can have IM in my office (everything else failed because of the office firewalls). I have noticed a small bug though. When someone adds me to his/her list (MSN), and I accept, they do not appear in my buddy list! Is this a bug?
February 20th, 2006 at 12:07 pm
straight to the point..
can you please make the default cursor blinking go to the meebo logon space ..
now its going to aim …I have to reach to the mouse and click it there …
I guesss most of the user now have meebo accounts …
Thanks for meebo its great ..
February 20th, 2006 at 12:44 pm

February 20th, 2006 at 2:31 pm
This is a great improvement. Now Meebo is almost perfect, I just want to be able to use Opera…
February 20th, 2006 at 3:38 pm
I love the accounts, such a convenience. One thing i can think of that i’d like to see in a future update is some fix to the scrolling system. Whenever i’m trying to read what was said earlier in the conversation by scrolling up, i get snapped back down whenever my buddy types something. Just a little annoying cuz my eyes lose their place.
February 20th, 2006 at 3:40 pm
Hey,
My school has blocked ALL meebo “numbers” ex: www23.meebo.com or www34.meebo.com
Could you possibly make MORE of these numbers? I would really appreciate it, to be able to get on at school when I am finished with my work to talk to my friends.
Thanks!!

Hey, i like your AJAX application. Also, you guys are doing a great job. I found it interesting as your unique way to recruit people
. I’d definitely visit this more often from now.
February 20th, 2006 at 4:56 pm
ei you guys are great… keep it coming ang more power! this site has helped me endured my worst and happiest times at work… especially when they had blocked out the IM’s in the net! With the help of little research in google, i have found real gold in meebo! thanks again guys!
by the way, the only suggestion i have is for you to have “conferencing”.
over and above, everything is overshoot!
February 20th, 2006 at 5:26 pm
Hi!
The only suggestion i have is a support for PDA devices. I have a PocketPC and can’t log in on Meebo =/

February 20th, 2006 at 8:23 pm
it would be good if there’s sound notification i.e. incoming msg and if we can logon/logoff individual IM while keeping other IMs logged on during the session.
February 20th, 2006 at 8:25 pm
it’s the best ever!!!!
February 20th, 2006 at 8:52 pm
One bug I noticed while signing into an account on Firefox: the cursor does not appear in the active text-entry form field. The only way you know which form field is active is to start typing and see where the text shows up.
A small nit for a great site. Keep up the great work!
February 20th, 2006 at 9:00 pm

May be u wud want to note that

February 20th, 2006 at 11:17 pm
Hi All
Thank you for the fab work!
I was hoping you could saperate the list of contacts for each application ( for example the list of ppl online/offline for Yahoo saperate from MSN) rather then just depending on icon to differentiate them.
Thanks for considering
Kind Regards
Vivian

This is an amazing website that has helped me enjoy my leisure time in office. My suggestion is that when an incomin message has arrived and some other window is opened Meebo window should blink to intimate the user that a message has come.

First of all i love you all for setting all this up, the only problem i find is that if you are not concentrating on meebo then you cannot tell when som1 messages, can you please make a sound affect when a message is received?
February 21st, 2006 at 8:10 am
Hi. There is still a bug in Meebo, as follows: I can log on to my AIM account in meebo and see my online buddies. I can also open a chat window and type in a message. However, my buddies are not receiving my IMs. Also, my buddies can IM me, but my replies are not visible. I am using Firefox 1.5.0.1. This problem has occurred since at least the beginning of last week.
February 21st, 2006 at 8:35 am
Argh, someone already took the username I wanted!
Why a 4 character minimum?
February 21st, 2006 at 8:59 am
Hi,
When someone adds me to a MSN chat (3 or more people) a few things tend to happen:
1. When either of the two people respond – all I see is [MSN:Chat] – message — the name of the person is missing
2. When I type a message in the chat window – no one else can see my response but I can see their messages
February 21st, 2006 at 9:20 am

February 21st, 2006 at 3:50 pm
Hi all,
I first really want to say I was OVER impressed by this app, it is a way over everything I have seen before using ajax …
About the little buuuugs … (It is almost nothing …)
On blogs pages, the bar on the right hand side propose “Valid XHTML” … And actually if you follow the link your pages are not valid
The issue is very light, it is only about attributs have to be included in double quotes, which is done almost everywhere except in the central content part. So I guess this has a link with wordPress.
About new features:
Would it be possible to have multiple windows … instead of everything included in one chat desktop? This would give us the possibility to leave our buddy list on the side while working … I don t see any technical issue why you could not do that with ajax (except more complexity on server side to manage requests from multiple child windows) … (but i did not look at that very deep actually).
thanks a lot for your very original new chat software
February 21st, 2006 at 6:28 pm
es bueno
February 21st, 2006 at 7:09 pm
great site! It makes my time at the library’s computers bearable. It’s more than functional enough to get the basics done; however, as far as suggestions go, could you make offline-messenging avalibale for those who allow it, such as yahoo messenger? it’s a great feature that enhances the uses of Yahoo messenger, which makes it my favourite. Also, how about sending SMSs through the chat window? maybe that will take a while to happen… in any case, love your site!
February 21st, 2006 at 8:00 pm
This is an awesome site…..Gr8 that someones come up with such a gud idea…….keep the gud work…….
February 21st, 2006 at 9:08 pm

February 22nd, 2006 at 12:12 am
Hey GREAT SITE, just wondering though…i logged on msn by using the site and the “Accept a contact” or whatever u want to call it window came up, and i accepted two people to go on my list, however, does accepting contacts work correctly or at all when on this site? this may be the wrong topic spot for this question but i want some help PLEASE, thanks so much. and if theres a way to find out the contacts email addresses or something that’d be great, cuz i’m not sure if they were actually added to my list.
thanks
February 22nd, 2006 at 2:31 am
Awesome! great thought put into this… very happy especially when messengers are blocked in office we can chat via meebo webpage!
Good luck and more enhancements are expected.
February 22nd, 2006 at 3:03 am

February 22nd, 2006 at 7:04 am
Thanks for the multiple signon–what a time saver! We are hoping to use meebo to take questions at our library reference desk, but we really need an option for alert sounds. Is that in the works?
February 22nd, 2006 at 7:24 am

Meebo is great, best of luck to you all..the initial meebo screen places the cursor in the ICQ logon window, I’d much prefer it to be in your meebo sign in box..thanks..

February 22nd, 2006 at 11:20 am

But seriously, I LOVE MEEBO
February 22nd, 2006 at 11:51 am
I just wanted to say that this site rocks. The company I work for recently put up a block on a large number of Web site out there, basically all the fun ones, but with Meebo, I can log onto AIM and keep in touch with people while I am at work.
This rocks!!!
February 22nd, 2006 at 11:54 am
Hey I love the site but i wish there would be a way that we could change our sign in name. Is there??
February 22nd, 2006 at 12:42 pm
Hi This is not really a commet but

Hey,,,,quick question. Is there any way to make the MEEBO button in our toolbar flash when it is minimized? So if someone sends us a message, it will flash like MSN Messenger does? Just wondering. Other than that, everything is awesome!
I can’t access my messengers from work, so I do it from MEEBO. Makes my work day fly by!!
Thanks everyone!

Hi!
The only thing that you need is the possibility to modify your account. I’m telling you this because I had to create 2 accounts just for a little mistake with the MSN mail account. If you have the way to correct this please tell me.

yeah meebo is THE best. i totally agree that there should be a chat option for AIM, and also, i can only see buddy profiles when they are Away; not when they are available or offline. i would really appreciate it if you would fix this as i often want to chat and have to go on AIM to get a chat window. Thanks!!!

woops you CAN see the profile when they are online; but it only shows the bottom part of it and I can’t scroll up to see the rest.

I would find meebo so much more cooler if I could do file transfers to my friends and family. Can you make this happen?

[...] I have been using Meebo’s new release and am very happy with it. It allows you to now create a Meebo account which will sign into ALL of your sessions with one ID. One can also simultaneously monitor multiple screenames from the sames service which is helpful for customer support issues. I don’t have to give clients or prospects my primary screenames (which is private) they can simply use my company’s screename. You could even have sales@companya.com, service@companya.com etc on the same page say if someone went to lunch and you needed to cover for them. Maintain your service level very easily. [...]

can we get the option to hit Enter or Ctrl+Enter to move to the next line down so our words arent all packed together?
March 20th, 2006 at 9:41 pm
[...continued from last comment ] I would prefer Enter for the next line down and Ctrl+Enter to send i.m.
