Hi Meebo,
As a bunch of you already know (because you’ve been using it), we recently added Facebook Chat into Meebo.
We have been speaking to the Facebook team, and it turns out, they’d like us to connect to their network in a different way – a way that works with their log-in security protocols. In the interim, they asked us to take Facebook off Meebo, and we agree with them.
However, we were glad to hear that the Facebook team was genuinely excited to see their network on Meebo, especially since they already have plans to open Facebook Chat. They also committed resources from their Chat and Facebook Connect teams to do extra work with us to get Facebook Chat back on Meebo “really, really soon.”
Work began this week, so stay tuned. We expect some all nighters on both sides!

P.S. Meebo grew in December. We reached close to 45 million people, a new record, including 2.5 million via Meebo Community IM. So it’s not all bad news…

Ya know… This probably is for the better. I enjoyed the facebook chat in meebo but if I had facebook open in another tab, they seemed to conflict so it turned into a pain. I’m sure once it’s back up it’ll be much better.

hey there,
first of all great work on integrating the social platform IM’s to meebo, really made the product a whole lot more attractive to use. a couple of notes on the facebook chat though:
1. as mentioned the sync with other open FB tabs was pretty lousy, maybe that could be solved.
2. offline FB buddys aren’t visible, wich makes chatlogs etc unaccessible (though they are there…) apart from that one couldn’t move FB contacts into any other groups
3. not FB related, but it would be great if one could group up buddys who are the same natural person online on several networks, maybe a list concept like on pidgin?
either way, you got a great thing going, good luck for 2009

It’s nice to be able to look at my fbook contacts while on meebo, but since i usually always have fbook open anyway, it’s slightly redundant. Also things get oddly delayed and stuff when I’m signed on on both sites, which makes it difficult if I’m tabbing back and forth between them. Def a good idea, though.

I appreciate your collective concern for our securities… My favorite part of being signed in to facebook was that I could read everyone’s status messages. I reconnected with friends I forgot I had (whoops!)!

Hey, you should work with Facebook to make it so that you can log in to your facebook AND be logged in to Facebook Chat on another program. There’s apparently a security measure that makes it so you can’t be logged in to both so when you log into your profile, the chat gets logged out, and when the chat logs back in, your profile page gets logged out. SuckS!

I was really excited by the addition and had only been using it a few days, but I have to admit that I am not surprised that it’s already down. It was awesome while it lasted.
I was have a lot of connection issues with FB for some reason and I expected there would need to be some changes. Another thing that irked me was how using FB with Meebo defaulted my chat when I logged onto FB (due to cookies?). That bothered me because I like to stay invisible on FB.
Anyway, good luck and I wish you the best.

I want you guys to know, if you do read this wall, that I absolutely love meebo. I’ve used it logging in at work during the old days (2 years or so ago) and I love having it as my go-to web to aim program. I actually use meebo instead of having an AIM desktop widget program. It would have been awesome to get facebook to work, but honestly the facebook chat isn’t that good, so I wouldn’t login to facebook to use it at work. Meebo is my preferred!

Meebo is still king of the hill. Facebook will be cool once it comes back. I hate having to have multiple clients open, so when I saw the ‘book I was happy. Will we be able to log our chats using meebo with the new integration method? I certainly hope so.
Two more non-complaints but would be cool feature enhancements:
1) I noticed other commenters in the past mentioned a desire for Skype. I’m all over it. Skype me! I can take it.
2) Is Talkbox able fix the video screens to resize?

Yeah, I was a little concerned when I logged in this morning to my 6 accounts and didnt see Facebook anywhere. Thanks for the update, and thanks for adding it to the service, it turns out that I use it a lot—I wasnt expecting that. Apparently a lot of my friends sit on Facebook all day–I didnt know that. Its turned out to be better than MSN and Yahoo messenger as to communicating with friends.

I’m from China, a stalwart meebo supporter for its facility and great UI. I’ve been amazed at how efficiently you work out with different protocols of different IMs with respective features. Now what I wonder (and many other Chinese users wonder) is if you can also add qq – a Chinese IM which has a huge userbase, probably is used by the largest population on earth lol – to the current ensemble, like Pidgin has done quite earlier. Just for your reference.

To me this means that facebook just wants meebo to use the jabber server,
Which they still haven’t released yet, because when it is out it will be more secure (as far as I can tell).
basically, that means either,
Most of you will be screwed over, since they announced the planned jabber support last may, and no progress has been reported, except for now, since the meebo issue sprung up,
OR
The jabber support will come soon, and meebo+pidgin+everyother jabber client/client capable of using jabber, will be able to use facebook officially.
For the technically curious, Jabber, more appropriately XMPP (eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol)
Is like email for instant messaging
everyone can talk to any other jabber server, like live journal talk and google talk users are able to Instant Message each other without having the other account.
Like how yahoo mail users can send mail to hotmaill or gmail accounts
Not sure if facebook will support that feature, since its optional on any jabber servers.

i also noticed, that facebook was logging out everytime i logged into meebo in the same or other browsers, making it difficult to chat on meebo BUT be on facebook at the same time, 4 days ago this was NOT an issue, it was a flag that something was wrong

I loved the FB chat on meebo. I could use it here at work and my friends at college could use it there. It was such a blessing! I hope everything gets worked out. I have been using Meebo since a friend introduced me in college.

Humph. Facebook chat on the actual Facebook absolutely *stinks*. I rarely use Facebook for anything but messaging and talking to friends, so I’m almost always on a different window or tab. As a result, I *never* hear that little “blip” sound they have. Also, Facebook chat keeps crashing on me and as a rule, is hugely annoying. Now Facebook chat on Meebo, that’s a different story! I love being able to connect to all my friends on Facebook simply and reliably, without all the annoyances that Facebook constantly provides.
Personally, I find no use for Facebook until they can get it back on Meebo.

Facebook chat is rife with bugs and issues. It was a blessing that we could access it via Meebo. I can understand the need to temporarily take it down due to conflicts, but at least you were able to test it in the real world application. Certainly Facebook has received enough complaints to realize that there little “bandaid” fix, which is to leave the person a message, is dinosaur-ian. I look forward to your combined solution.

The loss of Face Book is a large one to many, I think Meebo is still one of the best, if not the best, chat site online. It’s super simple, you don’t have all of the distractions of AIM and Yahoo!. I also like it, well because you get can get on multiple accounts at one time. I’m a Yahoo! and AIM user, so it’s super nice to be able to just get on one site.
Even without Face Book, you’re still great!

If you guys can make it so that it won’t have to be open in facebook as well when I use fb chat, I don’t mind waiting… I kind of keep fb always open so it was irritating to have it flash in both fb and meebo tabs. (Plus, if i was just trying to chat in facebook their messages would come up in meebo)

I like that Meebo is expanding. I’ve been using this service for about a year, maybe a year or so and like how much it’s grown. If Meebo decides to go public, I’ll be first in line to buy some shares, definitely! I see a lot in store for Meebo. Plus, you can’t go wrong with a silly name… it sticks with ya… look at google and yahoo! lol!

I hadn’t even really gotten around to figuring out how to use the facebook part, since I have facebook. XD
By the way, I’ve been using meebo for almost two years. I will NEVER download an instant messenger again. I had to search online for a command prompt to enter in order to completely remove MSN from my computer, and that is NOT worth it.

meebo is booooomb….. since the first time i used it it liked it. its perfect cuz i work on computers and a lot of the time have them laying around and dont like to install pidgin on them… anyways i so used the fbchat on meebo. i bet fb will use xmpp cuz it also runs on ssl like jabber but i dont understand how long it should take cuz i have $3 server and for me it took a day configuring LAMP. it shouldn’t take too long if they have over 30 servers over…….everywhere, but ya hey might just need to get/write the xmpp code and send them to the other people manage the server to install it. i have chronic insomnia and most people waste 1/3 of there day sleeping. i’ve gone 4 days without sleep so knowing that they have people in different time zones they should get this done in half a week not one

Facebook better deliver this time. They promised to go all XMPP about a year ago, then went totally silent. Hopefully, Meebo can whip them into gear!

Yeah, I know about FaceBook. Am NOW getting SPAM messages from FaceBook members, just like the junk I get from my MySpace account (via email) and MSN (via messenger), even though I have NO FaceBook account.
But this might NOT be the fault of Meebo.

not sure if this is where i comment about such things but dont know where else to., there are times i cant log in wiht my hotmail on meebo and i think its because meebo has many hackers. one of my friends sent me messages with links but then when i asked my friend abiout it they said no to every time. meebo is infected with hackers who can get our passwords very easily somehow. what can we do about that? what can meebo do about that?

but i think that you should get some more movie skins for the meebo background
i think it would majorly cool if you added some TWILIGHT stuff into there. I mean you guys are doing a great GREAT great job with this all

45million people is beginning to effect the system in my mind. I constantly keep getting hiccups in the connection and MSN is not delivering the messages.. Although i have a fiber optic connection and all other connections work perfect.
Might want to look into more server power or optimized coding

Guys, come on now. Read the entry before you start bashing Facebook… They just want Meebo to comply with their security standards. It’s for the better of everyone, Meebo, Facebook, and YOU, the people chatting on here. If anything you all should be praising Facebook for lending resources to get this accomplished.
I say kudos to Meebo and Facebook for being 2 of the best Web 2.0 companies in the world and on the internet. By the way… it looks like Facebook chat is back up and running right now.

At least for me, the primary benefit of Meebo for me is that NOTHING needs to be downloaded and just happily works in my browser. The difference I see between MSN/Yahoo/AIM and Facebook is that for the latter, their chat system is -already- based in a web browser, rather than a separate application. So, the convenience of browser-only chat already exists with Facebook, but I can totally understand the desire for having all chats in ONE browser tab/window! Just saying I think it would be a bigger trauma if AIM was removed from Meebo, for that reason. I wouldn’t be using MSN or Yahoo if I didn’t have Meebo.

If I’m right in remembering reading that Facebook is opening up Facebook Chat using Jabber, then the new beta build of Adium accesses Facebook Chat through Jabber. In so doing, they’ve solved the bug where you couldn’t simultaneously be logged in to Facebook through a web page and through Adium or Meebo or another service. The adium fix is still in beta, but it appears accessing Facebook Chat through Jabber is imminent.
