Update: We’re trying to fix a few things over here, so if you’re having trouble using your widget we’re on it!
Since the launch of meebo, we’ve primarily focused on making the experience inside meebo.com a really great one. We’ve taken thousands of emails, hundreds of requests, and even shelled out a few dollars on real, live usability data.
Over the last few months however, we’ve been thinking “outside the box” and exploring ways to expand past traditional IM. Today, you’ll finally see meebo spread beyond meebo.com.
What if you could take IM functionality and put it on any personal web page? (ooh!)
Do you have a MySpace profile? Wanna see who’s visting your page, at that very moment? (yes!)
Are you an up and coming blogger? Would you like to chat with your readers, in real time? (nod nod)
meebo’s really excited to announce the release of “meebo me”, an embeddable IM widget that you can put almost anywhere on the web! It’s a lightweight, simple widget that enables you (in meebo.com) to see the people who are visiting your web page and chat with them if you’d like. It’s pretty easy:
1. Create a widget at meebome.com.
2. Embed the widget on your personal page.
3. Log into meebo.com, watch for visitors (they’ll show up on your buddylist), and chat! For you power users out there (with popular, chatty web sites), we recommend you use FireFox — it’s a bit faster.
It’s a bit experimental (we did some crazy things to get this to work) and probably a bit buggy (please be gentle =p) but we think it’s really cool. It’s the first endeavor meebo has done outside of meebo.com — we’ve had to solve quite a few tricky technical challenges (my oh my) but it’s been a blast.
The team has worked really hard (a high energy bonanza of candy and Coca Cola) and we’re excited to push it live. Simon and I are on the edge our seats, watching for any signs of trouble with the servers and the rest of the team is anxious to hear feedback.
Users have always played a tremendous role in helping tighten the product and we trust that you’ll do the same with meebo me. Please do let us know what bugs you spot and which features you’d like added in the new meebo me section of our forum. With that, I leave you to try out the widget and let us know what you think!
cheers!
sandy

WOW, you guy’s are great !
I’ve been using Meebo now for about a month as my primary IM. What got my interest was that I could enter my IM-accounts once, and simply log in at any computer and be online with all my IM-clients.
Now, I’ve embedded it imidiatly on some of my websites. It’s AWESOME ! .. Thank you guy’s and keep up the good work, I’m sure Meebo will grow fast, and could become one of the big players in the IM-world !
August 2nd, 2006 at 5:28 am
The IM/Myspace feature is amazing!! There have been so many failed codes that would not let you see who was visiting your page – and the fact they can IM you is GREAT. You’ve outdone yourself on this one.
Kudos!!!!
August 2nd, 2006 at 5:30 am
Done..
It seems to works. but sometimes there is someone who see me off line..
Hei guys.. I have to say that your project and your Ideas are really cool..
I moved from Italy to work in the netheralnds.. so wouldn`t be afraid to move in the

August 2nd, 2006 at 5:56 am
Congratulations guys! You just open Meebo to a whole new different user base!
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:00 am
Brilliant! Works like a charm. You have set a new trend that is way above tagboards and forums. This is why meebo rocks!!!
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:07 am
it is extremly buggy, but i like the idea.
also, what is it based on? jabber?
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:11 am
I have not tried this yet but yes, I know that you people work real hard which is evident by existence of meebo itself. I thank you for meebo and your hard work.
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:14 am
Wow.
I love your ambition.
I love meebo.
Please continue on the path to rock.
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:19 am
Awesome idea guys. It’s been great following the progress of meebo over these last months, and I think you’re about to hit the big-time!
Congratulations!
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:28 am
I use “meebo” every day as my main IM. So I had to try out “meebo me” and it’s amazing!! Great job!
Thanks,
Michelle
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:34 am
You have no idea how happy and satisfied I am with your MEEBO ME feature! It created a new and priceless form of connection between me and my site visitors!
More power!
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:37 am
Really nice feature.
I want to ask though, can you and multiple people be on your page chatting? I can’t check this right now because I’m me and can’t log in as someone else
If you could then itmight replace Gabbly which already alerts you when someone is on your page..
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:37 am
I surely hope you guys can scale fast.. this is gonna EXPLODE in days.
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:49 am
i love meebo, its amazing, thank you. but this meebome ventures into whoah territory. anyone else concerned with the intrusive nature of the product?
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:58 am
yeah,amazing!
thank you!!
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:09 am
i love meebo it is one of the best all i do is read ur letters they are very intreging and interestng keep them coming and i will b really happy l
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:10 am
hola
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:12 am
I think it will become very popular.
Bugs:
1. ‘network interruption’ occurs a lot
Suggestions
1. is it possible to edit your buddy groups from meebo.com other than add/delete buddies.? For example, change the name of the buddy group or add or delete a buddy group. If not, this would be a good feature to add.
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:16 am
Brilliant,
This could be very useful in a remote support scenario. One thing, it would be nice if URLs were ‘click-able’ within the widget.
Keep up the good work.
Tom
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:19 am
Works great.
no problems so far, granted I don’t get many hits.
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:21 am
would it be possible to show some type of notification when the user on the website gets an IM? …change the title perhaps?
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:24 am
It sounds great. When will Meebo work in my BlackBerry browser?
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:26 am
Cheers from Brazil!!!
I put it on myspace and it seems to work!!! very cool!!!! Soon I´ll past a bulletin for other friends.
Best
L.
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:28 am
I’m doing a test run on my Myspace page. So far so good!! It was painfully easy and looks great on there.
I’ve been using Meebo for months now…ever since my students showed me how to get around the school district’s server to be able to chat. I love it!
When I get my website up for school I’ll be sure to include a widget and help the other teacher’s on my team so they can do this too!
Thanks for all of the hard work.
PS-If I have errors, I suspect it will be on the myspace side of things. But this morning it’s all running smoothly
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:28 am
This is freaking AWESOME.
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:31 am
I get a network interruption when I sign on to meebo. why?
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:32 am
Sounds interesting… gonna test it. Very innovative!
Keep the ideas coming!!
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:36 am
Really, you guys are just inspiring. Also, it’s a great testament to AJAX, web 2.0, etc.
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:41 am
It’s not working for me

I embedded the widget. I went to my site.
I can send messages from the widget into meebo.com
However, when I try to reply from meebo.com, the Enter key does not seem to get handled. It’s like I didn’t press it.
I tried another chat, and the Enter key works fine.
So, I can get from widget to meebo.com but not send out.
And there’s no send key.
Request: On the widget, it says “[username] is online”
Can the [username] be replaced with a custom string, please?
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:50 am
wow this is great!!! meebo for life!! lolz. if only, wait, is it possible to direct connect within the ajax ? lets say im on meebo.com and your on meebo.com. is it possible to implement a direct connection thru the website itself? or/and Direct Connect from meebo.com and the external AIM client itself ? if so that would liek totally complete me and my AIM experience.. haha =P
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:51 am
Okay……the myspace thing is cool. But what would really be nice is if meebo users could create IM Profiles, with different fonts, colors, and other options. The myspace thing is neat, but its only applicable to myspace users. Being able to create a profile would REALLY be much appreciated. It would be SOO COOL!!! If meebo could do that, then i would DEFINETLY use it as my main IM system, and tell all my friends about it. PLEASE GET US PROFILES!!!!!!
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:52 am
nice buns guys
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:02 am
MeeboMe – Love it!
Suggestion: can the Meebo window come forward when I receive a message? I tend to work with LOTS of open windows and if I don’t hear the sound, I’ll miss it.
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:04 am
This is Great!
Now im really out there.
(Waiting for meebo mobile!!)
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:06 am
Ya’ll are awesome! I love meebo…saved me during my summer internship….and it seems like you guys have a lot of fun at work…u hiring??? lol
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:13 am
I love the new meebo me!! Its so cool to have that on my Myspace account!!
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:36 am
i love your idea. Its a much more elegant alternative to many options out there for IM on your blog and connecting with your readers. But I use a wordpress.com blog and i cant make that code work for me. =( Any solutions for other wordpress bloggers you guys have encountered so far?
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:37 am
hi yitzle, the reason you might see that is because you’ve got some old javascript… try refreshing your browser (and clearing your cache).
and manu, when you say buggy? what kinds of bugs have you seen? we’d love to know so that we can improve it… send us an email
thanks!
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:41 am
I cannot get the widget to work in MySpace. It keeps displaying the code that is supposed to be commented out, and no matter how many times I put in there, it still keeps showing the code that should be hidden. Any ideas?
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:44 am
Hi there. I love Meebo, and this new feature is amazing. However, I keep my site XHTML Strict, and this does not validate. Could you help me out? My site is http://www.automoblog.net Thanks!
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:47 am
I love Meebo and this just makes it even better. Congratulations on your growth as an excellent service and tool. I’m looking forward to your IPO
You rock!

August 2nd, 2006 at 8:47 am
There is one small problem with Meebo Me widget. It takes up too much realestate on a webpage even at its smallest size. I really like the concept.
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:52 am
Hey folks,
Congrats on the fantastic Widget
I’m testing it on my site and like what I see so far.
See my corresponding post.
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:52 am
sounds dopalicious!!! . .hehe
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:54 am
Just a suggestion. We should have the ability to customize the name we want displayed to our users. Currently it is your meebo login, but custoizing the name could be a lot cooler
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:59 am
yup! we know that people will want to really customize their widgets. watch for it in the upcoming releases!
August 2nd, 2006 at 9:00 am
Simply amazing stuff
I’ve already got it on my website & myspace…
Any chance of getting it to keep the ID across multiple pages? Kinda annoying that they show up as a new guest every time they change pages on my site.
August 2nd, 2006 at 9:05 am
i think that you should make something so that we are able to make a profile that everyone on your buddy list can see, like on real aim. i use this more because this keeps everything in one window. i like this better. the only thing about this i dont like is i cant make a profile
if you could do this please email me.
August 2nd, 2006 at 9:10 am
Update: K-Meleon (Gecko based browser) seems to have trouble with the widget, i.e. I can’t respond from meebo.com – the enter key is not handled.
Clearing cache did not work. Switching to firefox did.
But k-meleon is so much less resource hungry…
August 2nd, 2006 at 9:11 am
This is the most significant feature you guys have developed so far, I really believe this one will put you guys over the top!
I have been with you guys since the beginning! Heres to hoping that you guys stay free/affordable!
August 2nd, 2006 at 9:21 am
same probem as k-meleon. i can’t respond from meebo.com, doesn’t handle the enter key. i’ll try refreshing.
August 2nd, 2006 at 9:30 am
Cool! got one on my myspace http://www.myspace.com/nfriedly
August 2nd, 2006 at 9:35 am
hey sandy, while i’ve used meebo for months (only way to get im at work) i only just signed up for an account today to use the new widget feature. it is a great addition to my blog and i await the revisions which will amke it fully customizable. now readers everywhere can send me silly comments. thanks : )
August 2nd, 2006 at 9:48 am
Hi…very good!!!!!!!!!
August 2nd, 2006 at 9:50 am
Hey, on http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/08/02/meebo-launches-meebome/, I read this:
“As an aside, I had a chance to talk to Meebo CEO Seth Sternberg about the recent Yahoo acquisition rumors, which he flatly denied. What isn’t deniable is that Yahoo is paying users to test out the Meebo service. I have more info from Yahoo regarding this, but have been asked not to post on it yet.”
PLEASE!!! Do not merge with Yahoo. If anyone, Meebo deserves to have a merger with Google. This might be really beneficial for Meebo, and even Google. Please do not merge with Yahoo, as they constantly steal ideas from Google, or buy out companies to get Google’s ideas. I mean, Gmail has a chat option similar to Meebo, which Yahoo may want. If Meebo joined Google, I would think both companies would prosper.
Thanks.
August 2nd, 2006 at 9:58 am
I accidentally set up a Meeobme widget and don’t want it anymore. How do I get rid of it from my meebo buddy list?
August 2nd, 2006 at 10:06 am
I
August 2nd, 2006 at 10:07 am
I love you sandy, will you be my wife?
August 2nd, 2006 at 10:09 am
Folks, this is an awesome little thing! I just embedded one on my blog, and after a couple hours of testing, we’re discussing implementing the widget as a virtual reference tool in my library. It solves so many of our potential issues– user friendliness, no bloated client to download, anonymous login, and the chat session doesn’t linger– in one tiny little tool.
Thanks again!
August 2nd, 2006 at 10:30 am
Yo… wat up?? I love myspace so u guys have to like it to so yea. I g2g my mother is killing me today so is my dad.(*) BYE! (*)
August 2nd, 2006 at 10:32 am

August 2nd, 2006 at 10:32 am
ive been using meebo in school & i gotta say meebo is pretty much the best thing since sliced bread..but now that i can embed it and talk to people on my sites..best kept secret on the interweb.

August 2nd, 2006 at 11:52 am
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!
This is first and the best feature from the Meebo’s innovative team which is different from regular IMs!!!
This is so out of BOX!!!
I am online from all the places now…
My blog, my website!!!
Wondering one thing???
Meebo trio can we add this as the signature of our email and one can chat with us from the email itself???
I tried it but it is not working… can something be done…
But a great JOB…
Bravo!!!
Wah Wah…

I made a wordpress widget for meebome
you can dl it here:
http://fileupload.ning.com/dl/?1762483
and see it here:
http://gabblywidgets.com
August 2nd, 2006 at 11:59 am
Looks like Meebome is down..
August 2nd, 2006 at 12:00 pm
This is an amazing idea and a great-looking implementation.
One request is that MeeboMe allow some kind of control over the user name that the site visitors see. Right now I guess it displays my meebo account name? What if I don’t want that revealed?
August 2nd, 2006 at 12:01 pm
I’ve used meebo for about 6 months now and I have absolutely loved it! I thought some of the newer features were really nice… but you have REALLY outdone yourself here! THIS IS GREAT! Thank you SOOO much!
August 2nd, 2006 at 12:15 pm
THIS IS SO AWSOME… now i can talk to my friends and i got a few of them into it… they really like the noise it makes… my friend michelle told me off meebo and its a lot easier to use. I’m on dial-up so i cant use aim and when i get aim i will still use aim becasue it’s so AWSOME
August 2nd, 2006 at 12:28 pm
I made a typepad widget for meebome
you can get your own here:
http://fileupload.ning.com/typepadgen.php
I have no idea if it works cause I don’t have a typepad blog anymore, but I am pretty sure it should work.
Enjoy
August 2nd, 2006 at 12:33 pm
What I don’t like about Meebo is that it doesn’t alert you when you have a new IM? Is this going to change?
August 2nd, 2006 at 12:36 pm
Here is a widget for mambo/joomla
http://fileupload.ning.com/dl/?1762519
August 2nd, 2006 at 12:44 pm
So impressive Sandy! Just last week I was thinking that I should tell Google about this great idea I had with Google Talk being integrated into personal websites. Guess what, you beat me too it! Wonderful work, I am so impressed. Aloha and Mahalo. My next wish is a Meebo widget for the Google Sidebar…
PS – I think liveperson and the rest of those overpriced chat services are going to hunt you down.
August 2nd, 2006 at 12:48 pm
Thank you very much for this very nice widget! We have just installed it on your website http://www.chtidesign.com/index.php?id=4 (we are french) to test this way of contact us directly.
Good luck for your future !!!
August 2nd, 2006 at 1:15 pm
I hope meebo’s servers can keep up with the load. What if every soul with a blog decides to put the widget in their pages?
) But, really, it’s a ‘cool’ tool. Keep up the good work, guys!
August 2nd, 2006 at 1:15 pm
I think this is a great idea! I’ve been wanting something like this for a while now, and I think it would be a good idea for my Web 2.0-emphasizing company’s contact page. As stated in above posts, this will certainly cause a useage boom for Meebo. There are a few things I’d like to see, though:
1. Let the conversation pass through to my regular IM account. Not all computers will audibly notify me of a Meebo message, so I likely miss them.
2. Let multiple people be assigned to each widget. That would be great for “contact us” pages, so that the messenger isn’t dependant on one person being available to chat.
August 2nd, 2006 at 1:36 pm
I have created a plugin for WordPress that lets you display the meebo me widget on your WordPress blog.
Read more and download
August 2nd, 2006 at 1:37 pm
You guys are the best! I have stopped using trillian because you guys have a better client that loads faster and is easier to use. Looking forward to the next update!
August 2nd, 2006 at 2:18 pm
Great stuff.
I knew Sandy was hot!
August 2nd, 2006 at 2:30 pm
I have created a plugin for WordPress that lets you display the meebo me widget on your WordPress blog.
August 2nd, 2006 at 2:37 pm
You Guys are doing wonders.
August 2nd, 2006 at 2:45 pm
I’m going to use it on my site but it doesn’t seem to work…
August 2nd, 2006 at 3:30 pm
I just tried meebome on a website on just created. By the way i’m only just now starting to learn how to build these things. So basically I just entered the html code into my site and when i load it, it says that im offline even tho im logged in to meebo.com
August 2nd, 2006 at 4:17 pm
Drop. Dead. Sexy.
Nice work!
August 2nd, 2006 at 4:34 pm
hey everyone – thanks for the great feedback! for those who are finding bugs, please do report them at forum.meebo.com. Also, if you are logging into meebo but not showing as available on your widget, make sure that you *reload* meebo on the front page to make sure you have the latest code that drives the widget. thanks for all the feedback!! seth
August 2nd, 2006 at 4:39 pm
Just tried out meebo today and absolutely love it. Wrote a blog with my experiences of using IM and comparing with meebo: http://blogs.grommit.com/poorna/?p=17
August 2nd, 2006 at 4:44 pm
Good thinking
August 2nd, 2006 at 4:51 pm
We love it!! great job you guys!! Just gives us another way to connect with our peeps when they hit our site!!!
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 2nd, 2006 at 5:02 pm
i’ve been on meebo now for almost 1 month and i LOVE it! what i love most is i was able to uninstall AOL IM and Yahoo IM and free up space on my computer since those 2 IM services tend to use up a lot of space on my computer! thanks so much for creating MEEBO and for MEEBOME!!!! i just added it to my blog today and blogged about it as well: http://killired.blogspot.com/2006/08/ch-ch-ch-ch-check-it-out.html
and i originally blogged about meebo when i first joined: http://killired.blogspot.com/2006/07/do-you-im.html
August 2nd, 2006 at 5:24 pm
Wow this is so way cool. You guys are great thanks so very much!
August 2nd, 2006 at 5:43 pm
Great addition… It would be nice to be able to edit the display name per each Meebome widget.
August 2nd, 2006 at 5:46 pm
Really nice! Congrats meebo team!
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:25 pm
meebo–keep up the great work!!
yay. you are so popular, it’s hard to stay on your top 10 fans list. that makes me somewhat sad because you guys do me proud.
keep it up, though–i can tell you are a talented bunch. i want to come in and meet your office cats. cheers…
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:26 pm
Blogged and Using it.
http://bloggeratto.blogspot.com/2006/08/meebome-instant-chat-for-your-blog.html
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:26 pm
btw just from some of my readers; they’ve said sending me a msg through my x has been a problem thus far…i’m sure you are aware.
August 2nd, 2006 at 6:56 pm
Awesome feature!!! I have always wanted a chat feature like this.. now that you guys bundled with your all-in-one IM… that’s a really wicked idea… fxxking cool!!
BTW, the interface is really nice and clean!
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:00 pm
oh-my-BOBBBB!!! I love the widget! ^______^ you folks know how to make me happy lol. I use meebo for all my messaging, so that saves me viruses, haha.
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:13 pm
Excellent work. I love it
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:21 pm
Nice work! You guys (and gals of course) prove again that you are at the forefront of the evolving IM market. Yahoo and Google will follow, but they will be just a bunch of Meebo copycats.
Now if I can get Meebome IM on my GTalk/YIM/MSN clients, it will be awsome.
August 2nd, 2006 at 7:38 pm
do you make IM like OICQ or QQ which are popular in china ?
i think you can be able to do these IM functions.
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:49 pm
super! Love you guys.
August 2nd, 2006 at 8:59 pm
uh…if this is jabber, why cant i just use gaim/trillian/miranda/etc to connect to it with the jabber protocol to receive my meebome messages? i dont like using webapps, even though yours works great, and i’d like my messages to actually pop up somehow. plus, i use linux, so i cant just use some other webapp with a windows-based messagecenter or whatever, i’d just want to be able to connect with my apps through jabber directly to meebo.
rats.
August 2nd, 2006 at 9:43 pm
I LOVE MEEBO!!!
August 2nd, 2006 at 10:12 pm
Simply outstanding work. I am amazed at the creative ideas you guys come up with. Keep it up!
August 2nd, 2006 at 10:17 pm
OMG i love it!!!
August 2nd, 2006 at 10:40 pm
I always love reading the meebo blog updates. and today, i really was so excited to try the latest widget that I placed one in my blog account! it’s working great. Cheers!
August 2nd, 2006 at 10:46 pm
I installed this moments ago, and already Textdrive’s burnaby server has been brought down. This should not be publicly used.
August 2nd, 2006 at 11:21 pm
Hi U guys — Thankx a Zillion! am from India and have been working in Mumbai since I started my career. However from the past one month have been in Chennai to join in my new job. Missed my family too much and longed to talk and chat with them anytime I want to. Mobile bills were on an upward trend, and it seemed I was spending almost 20-25% of my pay-check on the Mobile bills. Untill yesterday when a friend of mine suggested to check out your site.
Your site was a breather for me as it gave me instant access to connect with my family anytime and everytime.

Hi,
It think this meebo me stuff is a great idea. I’ve just created a meebo me widget and have been taking great joy in testing it.
I have to point out 2 things that don’t seem correct. The link to privacy at the top of the meebome page misses a ‘p’ at its link (the protocol in the link is htt). The other thing is that the widget I’ve created at the meebome site doesn’t show on my accounts preferences (my meebo).
I’ll go now and continue to enjoy meebo and meebo me.
Keep up the good work.
August 3rd, 2006 at 12:57 am
Any plans to include Skype too ?
August 3rd, 2006 at 1:00 am
I love the idea of meebo me. However, when I try to type Chinese nickname and Chinese message in the widget, the Chinese characters can’t be shown.
P.S. I’m using Firefox 1.5.0.6.

Cool! You guys are awesome! I posted ito on my multiply page (http://boch30.multiply.com), friendster page (http://www.friendster.com/boch30) and as the signature of a Discussion Forum. It works great!
Suggestion: Could you put somewhere in the tag/code where we coudl customize the default username.. instead of guest9834098 could it be mymultiply934084 or myfirendster983049830 or 8736487263?
Thanks. More Power!
Meebo-mania! has hit the Internet!

Hi,
This is a great idea! Meebo is a great site and is fast becoming a great application and development kit as well(hope so). I hope this will continue, this will give chance to a lot of developers to learn and include meebo technology on our own applications and projects. In turn, this will establish meebo as usable and reliable component. Thanks for the initiative and creativity =)
August 3rd, 2006 at 2:39 am
Great job, guys! I’ve been using meebo only recently and I guess I’m lucky enough to have jumped on the meebo bandwagon when meebo me came out. I love using meebo; it’s just so much more convenient! I also just added meebo me on my blog and it’s so cool. I just have three suggestions:
1) Chat logs for meebo me conversations. This way, the meebo me widget can sort of function like a “chatterbox”.
2) Maybe you can work on an AJAX version as an alternative to Flash. Some people find Flash really slow.
3) It’s really hard to type meebo me when talking to people because it’s two separate words. I would suggest rebranding it to “meeboMe”
Keep up the good work!
August 3rd, 2006 at 2:41 am
Sandy and the Team,
Thank you very much for continually improving meebo. This really help us a lot in keeping in touch with our friends and families. Many many thanks!
August 3rd, 2006 at 2:45 am
wow!!! great feature!!! i love it.. I put one in my website and one in my friendster page… this is great!!! thank you for building such feature.
August 3rd, 2006 at 3:11 am
I love it, I’ve been using meebo for quite a while (but not using the account) but I just had to get a meebo account to use this widget. It works great, thanks.
August 3rd, 2006 at 4:07 am
Excellent! I use Meebo form work everyday and simply adore it. Who needs a local client when we can have something this great?
Congratulations!
P.S.:
“(please be gentle =p)”
August 3rd, 2006 at 4:45 am
I’ve been trying this for a couple of days now, and it’s working great! All I need now is a desktop meebo client so I don’t have to have Firefox open all the time to be alerted to new incoming messages! Very well done, this is a cool idea!
August 3rd, 2006 at 5:16 am
I just tried meebome on a website on just created. By the way i’m only just now starting to learn how to build these things. So basically I just entered the html code into hi5 and when i load it, it says that im offline even tho im logged in to meebo.com . Cud you plz help me .
August 3rd, 2006 at 5:43 am
pretty neat indeed. but i was wondering if they could take off your screen name and just use the name you’ve titled your widget. i’m not sure how comfortable everyone is with their SN floating around on myspace/internet.
August 3rd, 2006 at 6:35 am
Meebo is wonderful! I love being able to combine all of my messenger services. The only glitch I’ve seen so far is with the widget; I’ve embedded it into MySpace but I show up as offiline in my profile when I’m signed into Meebo.
Thanks for this great service!
August 3rd, 2006 at 7:07 am
I can’t conect from meebo to my meebome.
In meebome, at my website, says that I’m offline.
What shoul I do?
August 3rd, 2006 at 7:10 am
Looks like meebome is down. Even though I have logged in . On my site it shows that I am offline.
August 3rd, 2006 at 7:39 am
I would like to be able to control the widget name from the HTML code. That way, I could make my PHP page name the widget whatever the page name is, or something to that effect, and whenever someone IMs me, I’ll know exactly what page they’re on, without having to create a seperate widget for each page name.
August 3rd, 2006 at 8:01 am
wow, more excitement from meebo!..hey i like that little photo and ID who’s writing the blog…. sometimes u’d have to go to the end forthe signature to figure out who wrote it!
August 3rd, 2006 at 8:43 am
A little on the slow side, but I am running this on a Suse 10 machine….it may run faster on my main w/s. In any case, I like the basic functions so far.
August 3rd, 2006 at 9:23 am
I cannot get mine to work I have done it several times, and when I login i suddenly have a meebo.org account? and that can’t make a connection i’m totally lost.
August 3rd, 2006 at 9:25 am
I also forgot to mention, it always shows me as logged off or Offline, however i’m online on myspace, I really don’t know what to do, nor do i know how to get a hold of meebo.
August 3rd, 2006 at 10:38 am
Amazing product! This is best IM service out there. I hope that it spreads and many people use it. I will make a donation to meebo too as soon as I can. I do not want this service to ever go away!!
good job!
August 3rd, 2006 at 10:38 am
Great product! I’m new to meebo.com, and this is a pretty nifty setup. Being the technically curious person that I am, I have some questions about how it really works and what if any limitations it has, how firewalls treat it, and the like. Is there a way to get ahold of the meebo team directly?
August 3rd, 2006 at 10:55 am
you guys never fail to surprise me . evventhough your widget is some what slow in settign up a connection with server and sometime it makes my web page slow to load still its a great way to reach my readership .
i got almost 1000 hit on my blog every day with avg time of 2-5 mintute . given that i do posting very few and far in bitween its a good number. Problem is that they come they read but they never leave a comment . i would love to interact with them and know who thay are
guess this new widget will enable me to do so .
thanks , i love meebo
August 3rd, 2006 at 11:06 am

I’ve installed the meebo widget in my blog, but I don’t understand why it continues to show me ‘offline’ even though I’m not. Is there something more I need to do?
August 3rd, 2006 at 11:44 am
I’ve installed the meebo widget in my blog, but I don’t understand why it continues to show me ‘offline’ even though I’m not. Is there something more I need to do? Maybe go back to the preferences or something? Am quite puzzled by this ‘offline’ message. Help, anyone!
August 3rd, 2006 at 11:51 am
sometimes if you see the “offline” status, either your meebo account is offline or the widget owner is having trouble establishing a connection with the widget.
you can try refreshing the page the widget is on, or have the widget owner re-login.
we’ve been tweaking the system all day (and yesterday) so there may be hiccups in service because of that…
thanks everyone, for being so patient.
August 3rd, 2006 at 12:00 pm
meebo is stupid cuz it freezes ur computer
August 3rd, 2006 at 12:44 pm
jalal….jalal….
August 3rd, 2006 at 1:04 pm
This is a great idea. The only thing I would think that would make it better is that when the widget shows that you are online that the name it shows can be edited. This is because your Meebo name might not be the name that most people know you as.
August 3rd, 2006 at 1:11 pm
what about a ‘web browser’ window so i can talk to people and surf on the same tab…
August 3rd, 2006 at 1:14 pm
Hello,
Have you ever though of having a Meebo application for Blackberry users?
Keep up the great work!

My favorite movie is “8 Mile” starring Eminem and that one black dude from ER, or maybe it’s Chicago Hope.
James Herds
August 3rd, 2006 at 1:44 pm
I thought that black dude in “8-mile” starred in that tv show “Wings”. Oh wait, everyone on that show was caucasian.
My favorite movie is “The Last Jump of Springheel Jack” by Vivid Video productions.
August 3rd, 2006 at 1:53 pm
Actually, he did appear in a few episodes of ‘Wings’ as Tony the zookeeper. He gained most of his fame, however, in “Who’s the Boss?”, a Tony Danza lovefest that gain popularity at the height of the cocaine-fueled ’80’s. THAT show also starred Alyssa “Pepperidge Farms” Milanos. I loved her alongside Nicole Ritchie in “The Simple Life” TV show. They were so good together. She was also great in Schindler’s List.
I love meeblOg!!!!!!

Hi!
This is a cool service, and I love the idea! Unfortunatly I’ve decided that I have to remove it from my blogs until it’s a little more stable, but I trust that you will fix it soon! I hope you never get bought by Yahoo!, becouse of how they treat their customers in China I really don’t want to use any of their services, and I really want to use this!
Two sugestions/feature requests:
1. Minimize the widget to only show the title and the online/offline status whenever “I” am offline and whenever the visitor clicks the little green button to turn it off.
2. Let me, the user, decide the with and height of the widget myself. One example of why this should be implemented: The big widget is just a few pixels narrower than my cocomment box, and that dosn’t look good. Many bloggers take their design seriously, and things like this could ruin the widget for some!
PS: Your captcha is giving me a headache! Why don’t you just use Akismet instead? No hassel for the commenters, better spamprotection for you.
August 3rd, 2006 at 2:55 pm
Actually, some of the information you just posted is incorrect. Alyssa “Pepperidge Farms” Orange Milanos only appeared in “Three’s Company.” She played the homeless Round Table delivery woman with a taste for 3 Musketeers and a penchant for mischeif. I think they wrote her off the show after the 3rd episode because she kept getting really blitzed on set (she drank a lot of Zima). John Ritter apparently hated her so much because she kept pigging out at the deli trays that were set out just for Mr. Ritter. She would eat all the deli fresh meats and only leave the tasteless wood-fired roast beef for John Ritter. Man, the 80’s were so depressing.

I use meebo at school whenever I want to chat, though I use trillian most of the time at home for the same reason a few other people mentioned: I get a flashing window, audible alert, and/or the window pops up. However, I rarely ever hear an audible alert in meebo, though the title of the tab does change to alert to a new post. This new meebo me thing is cool, but it’d be nice if the messages could be forwarded to yahoo/aim/msn, so meebo wouldn’t have to be open in the browser.
Either that, or it’d be nice if meebo came out with an actual downloadable app. Having an extra tab open in firefox isn’t always worth it when I have trillian as an alternative. But the app would replace the need for trillian, since it could do everything trillian has.
Some have mentioned adding heavy-duty things to meebo, such as web cams, but I don’t think that’s a good idea. Meebo is meant to be a very light browser that gets the job done – chatting, and that’s it. That’s one of the reasons I like trillian over the “real” messengers – it’s not overly bloated, and has just the bare necessities.
Anyway, I’d like to say that you all at meebo are doing awesome work, and I look forward to your future.

Very good job. Excellent choice, going with Macromedia Flash for this one. MySpace doesn’t like javascripts. This thing is very useful.
I can’t wait until it’s possible to maybe get an XML feed of users entering and exiting my buddy lists. I’d have the feed sent to my PDA/Cellphone and then I could be notified in real time of people visiting my websites everywhere I went, and maybe even chat with them over my wireless handheld device.

Love meebome! Installed it on my blog and it works just fine so far. Brilliant concept. Thanks for providing this great functionality.
August 3rd, 2006 at 8:35 pm
I love you people.
August 3rd, 2006 at 9:23 pm
I’m sorry if this has been posted already, but I’m a bit too lazy to go through all of the other comments.
Anyway, I made a widget that was too big. I went back and made a new one. However, as I could not delete the old one, I had to pick a new name and I now have a empty category on my buddy list. Could you make a manager of some kind with wich I could remove the old posts? Besides that, it’s a great service that you have.
August 3rd, 2006 at 9:25 pm
I lub meebo
August 3rd, 2006 at 9:46 pm
Alright, I just needed to refresh Meebo to see that the thing I was looking for is right in Meebo prefs. Sorry!
August 3rd, 2006 at 9:58 pm
it’s great. although having guests change the default name is quite a bummer. meebo detects IP addresses of users, right? why not have the system check if such IP is logged on to meebo as well and use that meebo id as the guests nickname for the widget? or require the guest to enter a nickname? nevertheless, it’s a great application
August 3rd, 2006 at 10:04 pm
good job with the website IM!!!
Keep thinking outside the box ^_^
August 3rd, 2006 at 10:05 pm
Hi,
The MeeboMe project is really interesting, and I tried the same in my website(not in the current one, ther is one new beta version coming up, in that). I like give some suggestions.
1. Some more options to customize it: change the color, semi-transparent backgrounds, change the title text size etc.
2. Now it is showing “newn.haree is online”. I like it to show “Haree is online”. Screen name is always better to show than ID.
3. Start as a minimized Item. i.e. show the title, owner status, and get meebo buttons. Type area and display area can be avoided. Later if the user wish to chat, when he put the mouse over “Haree is online” dialogue the whole thing gets expanded, and he can start chatting.
4. What if a single site has different owners. Eg: An organization. Can add a FAQ widget, so that if any of the concerned person is online, it will show online status, and the user can ask the questions directly. Ya, I know they can use a common Id, but my suggestion is still better.
5. Even the small version takes a lot of space. What about a small area which shows owner status and meebo button. Clicking on it the user will get a pop-up window, and using that he/she can start chatting, very much like google mail chat.
And one more time i want to thaaaaank aaall associated with this…you are really doing great…
August 3rd, 2006 at 10:12 pm
Wow, this is pretty nice. I have just installed it on my blog yesterday… initially it didn’t connect, now is OK. Love it…
Thanks!

But hey, fantastic work, guys. Love the progress you’re making. Keep it up!

August 4th, 2006 at 4:32 am
De online/offline indicator doesn’t do what it’s supposed (what I expect it) to do.
I’m definitely on-line, but the indicator says I’m off-line.
I do not use Meebo 24/7, but during office hours (CET) I do.
anything I can do to test/debug this with you?
August 4th, 2006 at 6:04 am

*please pass the butterbeer*… My friend pmed me through my widget in my website (offline message actually) and the when I arrived at the office yesterday and went online at my meebo account, I received her offline message.. It was great and then I saw her still online in my widget and we have fun chatting using MeeboMe.
CONGRATULATION!!!

August 5th, 2006 at 11:38 pm
must i always login to meebo.com from your meebo me main site to let others see I am online? Can’t meebo me work once i login as administrator to my own (wordpress) blog? This would really help more bloggers adopt it, not to mention expanding your user base, as not all IM-ers use Meebo yet.
August 6th, 2006 at 7:53 am
awesome, but please, dont make the window pop to the front, or just make that an option, if i use it at work, i dont want my boss to see it pop on the screen while he is talking to me.
August 6th, 2006 at 9:54 am
You absolutely rocks… I was looking just for something like this and, ey, you had already done it! it would be nice if you could release an small desktop client (yes, I know, it’s against the way you love the IM) but it would be a cool way to receive IM alerts from the widget even if we have closed the browser window. Perhaps even a tiny round light on the deskbar that becomes green if somebody is using the meebome would be enough.
Anyway… YOU ARE THE MASTERS.

Still could understand how useful to me..but i will try to put it back soon i guess..
Or is it just too overhyped..
Have a meebo buddy.
August 9th, 2006 at 4:55 am
Why don’t you translate the meebo? We, brazilians, that doesn’t know read and/or write in English doesn’t use the meebo to talk… This is a good idea, right?

Couldn’t resist the excitement :p I used meebo earlier because IM was blocked in college. Now I use only it , because I’ve realised how convenient you guys have made it. This new stuff gives me but little or no reason to change to Messengers again
Keep them coming
August 11th, 2006 at 2:39 am
“meebo me” is a very splendid trial.
However, unfortunately the language input to need IME is inconvenient. A message is transmitted conversion in IME promptly when I push an ENTER key to be decided.
I think that I am more splendid if there is not this.
If a problem of the language input to need IME was settled, I praise “meebo” on a large scale and will offer it to everybody!
Attention: Because English is inconvenient, I use machine language translation.
August 11th, 2006 at 7:01 am
I still consistently show up as offline on my MySpace profile when logged into Meebo….am I doing something wrong? I’d love to be able to use this feature, but everyone thinks I’m always offline! Help? Thanks!!
August 11th, 2006 at 7:17 am
Hey! I figured it out! Yippeeeee! I wasn’t logging into my actual Meebo account when on Meebo.com, I was only logging into my individual Instant Messengers. Now it’s working! I’m so excited – thanks again for this fantastic product!!

Hello, I am trying to use this widget for my website but every time I get through the first page and try to log in and click NEXT it says “Network could not establish connection” or something, and my internet is working fine because I’m using meebo right now, so how could I fix this? Email me back if you can, thanks!

Hi! This Meebo Me could be fantastic, but I have the same problem of other people who tried this service: widget is always offline, even if I am connected with meebo. Moreover, I cannot receive any offline message… why? How can resolve this situation?
(Sorry for my english)

Hi, this is really awesome, but I’m having trouble.
I post the widget in a spot on my MySpace, and it’s there when I edit my profile, but then when I go to view my profile it just shows “.. ..” in it’s place…?
