Don’t you just love the summer? School’s out, summer blockbusters are die-harding and transformer-ing, and best of all, meebo’s still releasing something new every week!
We pushed out some pretty exciting stuff yesterday and as icing on the cake, we introduced meebo rooms: partner edition. Before I get to why Lil Mama’s awesome lipgloss is related to meebo, let me introduce some great new features we released!
Many of you should’ve noticed that the bottom console bar is updated with a more convenient search bar and topic tabs. We’ve tried to make finding your favorite rooms a lot easier so this also includes tightening up our search algorithm and displaying the number of people chatting in the rooms. Andreas had a lot of fun creating a super easy way for everyone to invite their friends after you’ve created a new room. Dragging every friend to the new room can be a bit slow so the new wizard keeps the experience snappy.
In addition to another slew of unnamed bug fixes and polish, we’re also excited to announce that meebo rooms has released its partner edition of rooms. What’s that mean? It’s kind of like a normal room, but pimped out with custom skins and a bit extra functionality for highly-trafficked sites. Jian’s had loads of fun working with our launch partners to create custom rooms for such artists like A Fine Frenzy, Aly and Aj, Alpha Rev, Fabolous, HellYeah, Jason Fox, Jenny Owen Youngs, Kelly Rowland, Korn, Lil Mama, Matt Wertz, MIMS, Mudvayne, Portugal the Man, Saosin, Straylight Run, and T-Pain.
We’re very proud to be working with some star-studded (wow!) partners in the music industry (Amie Street, BuddyLube, Capitol Records, Columbia Records, Fearless Records, Flyer Records, Hollywood Records, Island Def Jam Music Group, iSound, Jive Records, MOG, Nettwerk Music Group, Radio One, Inc., RockYou, The Hype Machine, Universal Motown/Universal Republic, VH1, VIBE Magazine, Vice Magazine’s VBS.tv, and Virgin Records) to help them give their fans a richer experience on their official pages, MySpace profiles, and fan pages.

Meebo is too useful during summer… if you don’t stay at home everyday like me, you can chat with msn friends everywhere with any PC and any OS – BeOS too! ^^ – without installing anything. Cool ^^

First, I LOVE MEEBO.com. What a great tool to have an especially in a corporate environ where other IM grouping tools are blocked. I can get here from any PC anytime and I don’t need four IM services running…Thank you!
Now for the comments: What the heck is all this blah blah blah about Meebo Rooms. It seems you folks spend way too much time on something which seems to me like a huge vat of crap. Perhaps I just haven’t visited the right rooms but every one I’ve been to are all the same; a bunch of people typing out words which nobody replies to in so many languages it’s not worth even trying to read. I have picked a few which I thought would be playing some new music from bands I like, and nothing, just letters all jumbled together going by so fast you can’t even figure out if anyone is replying to you or not. Lot’s of “hey were r u from?” and “r u m or f”? and other lines in an attempt to meet someone interesting enough to chat with but in the end there’s never anyone with anything substantial.
So, sorry to rain on your parade and maybe you’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback, but here’s one fan that doesn’t get it…

While I wouldn’t phrase it the same as Scott McDonald, I have to agree. I don’t care at all about meebo rooms and in fact I am waiting for you guys to add a feature to turn them off!!!
Is this why you don’t support IRC even though gaim does?! Only thing worse than re-inventing the wheel is re-inventing a wheel no one needs.

And, yes, I do realize that meebo rooms is critical to your business plan, but that doesn’t mean you can’t provide a preference to turn them off. Stop cluttering my screen (and even worse, my buddy list! Why won’t the meebo rooms buddy stay removed?!)!

Meebo rooms are awesome! We have a great time in the Canada Chat Lounge…we have a bunch of regulars and there are always new people joining.

I’d love to see a meebo me widget that can communicate back to a mobile device like a blackberry.
I’d really get a lot of use out of being able to use meebo me as a live customer service portal, and be able to communicate over my blackberry so that myself or someone from my company didn’t necessarily have to sit and monitor things at their computer.
Keep up the great work, you guys are doing an awesome job!! I know it’s just a matter of time before you show up on the blackberries and treos (and other smart phones, iPhones, etc)…

Okay, I was chatting with a friend, then accidently clicked on one of the chatrooms, I then canceled it, but there was this guy bothering me . . I couldn’t block him cause there was NO BLOCK SIGN ! You guys need to work on that . . . He kept on talking to me when i said go away . fix that please

guys, ou are doing a great job….i no longer install messengers on my pc….since i use messengers only for im, i dont need to install messengers cause i dont use their voice functions…
it will be great if you can add features like new email notification, ability to send files and stuff like that….

meebo seems great, but there are a few issues I hope will be addressed in the future:
- is there a way to customize the behavior of windows? if I minimize a window and someone writes in it, it pops up. it shouldn’t. it should only blink, to tell me someone wrote something. but if it pops up it interferes with my writing. and it’s annoying as hell.
- it would be great to be able to hide from certain people and not from all contacts, like with yahoo messenger. I did notice that if I set up inside messenger to be hidden from certain contacts, meebo respects that, this is awesome, but I think it would be nice to customize this from inside meebo.
- I had problems adding contacts in meebo, and others had problems adding me in. basically, they don’t see me added and I don’t see them. so I had to open yahoo messenger.
- it’s not clear whether a person is busy or just idle…. or is it unclear just for me?
- I don’t think it would be so necessary to include video and audio messaging in meebo, although it would be a nice feature (I think it was considered, right?) but I think it would be more helpful to allow people to send files…
- …and even more helpful, to include more messengers, like skype, which is a very very very widely used program and probably the best quality video/audio messenger anyway.
not sure if this is the place to submit my requests, but I can only hope some people will read this and consider some if the stuff I’ve written in. have a good one y’all!
