Guess what?! meebo’s going mini!
The meebo team was super excited to get our hands on the iPhone a few months ago. The day it came out, Andrea’s son and his buddies camped out for one so we could begin testing ASAP. We found some showstoppers but luckily, Paul was on the case! We got in a couple quick fixes to get a “pre-Alpha” level of meebo up and running. The next step was to create a truly great meebo experience on the iPhone.
Today, we’re happy to report that we’ve taken the “pre-Alpha” tag off … meebo is ready and available (and hopefully, much improved) on the iPhone. Just like normal meebo, there’s no download required; you get chat history for all your buddies and their buddy icons, and your IM accounts are all in one place, etc. It’s like you never even left the house! Haha.
For the iPhone users, we wanted to make sure that meebo works nicely on WiFi or EDGE – the faster load times helps for sure, but the new “smart” buddy list moves active conversations to the top of the buddy list so you can preview messages before opening a conversation. It also alphabetizes your buddies so they’re easy to find.
Just like always, this is super new for us, so we really, really appreciate your feedback when you get it up and running. Please let us know how it runs, if you encounter bugs, and of course, what you’d like to see in the future. We can’t wait for more mobile browsers to run meebo, so stay tuned.
Good luck and happy iPhoneing!
-Danny

Hi
sounds great. I’m using a HP iPaq with Windows Mobile 6.0. Is there a chance to use the new iPhone version on this one as well?

Well, that throws the whole idea that meebo is only meant to run on a computer out of the window. But that is quite an accomplishment, wish I had an iPhone to test it on. Way to go meebo team!
Hopefully you’ll soon be able to implement some more feature requests.

It is meebo guys, just html & ajax it should run everywhere? Correct ? It is just modified to fit well with iPhone, it should work even on your pc

(not sure if there’s a better way to submit feedback)
I’d like to see some kind of automatic away, or perhaps an SMS notification, if the user navigates away from the Meebo page without signing out. There’s a potential for lost messages.

I’d love to see that as a widget on my desktop!

August 16th, 2007 at 7:45 am
I think it’s a nice start. I’d really like to see the ability not show my off line buddies. BeeJive does a good job of making their client looks like an Apple app.. i’d really like to see you guys add a little more style to iPhone-meebo too. But so far… I really like it. Loads fast, works well.
On an other note. People, stop complaining about your non-supported systems. IE in Windows Mobile 6 is a terrible browser and it’s Web 2.0 standards are non-existent. Windows Mobile has been out for a long time… there is a reason there is no meebo support.
August 16th, 2007 at 7:47 am
I just tried out Meebo on my iPhone and it was a great experience. You handled using their keyboard very well and I love how I can hit Go and the keyboard stays up while I can still see my chat.
I would love to be able to use Meebo Rooms, if only the chat portion of them. I’m headed to the Salesforce.com user conference and we’re going to have a conference back-channel in a Meebo room and I’d love to access it. But my rooms don’t show up in my buddy list, and I can’t go to the full meebo site on my iPhone to view a room.
Any plans for adding Rooms to your stellar implementation for the iPhone?
Thanks!

August 16th, 2007 at 8:15 am
Let me get this straight…you created an iPhone client…but for 100’s of thousands of folks using windows mobile, meebo still doesn’t work? Interesting.
mingistech…no need to be cryptic…apple has always been superior to windows with respect to userability, but that doesn’t explain why meebo can’t create a mobile version. Plenty of other folks have done it. IM+ for one.
August 16th, 2007 at 8:20 am
Can you make this available for blackberry clients?
August 16th, 2007 at 8:28 am
ming is right… how did this turn into a request thread for unsupported hardware?
they are looking for iPhone feedback… not, why can’t I use this on my DS.
August 16th, 2007 at 8:31 am
Pix — It’s turned into that because the primary users of Meebo do not have iPhones. Being one of those folks who has been using Meebo since it’s earliest days, I don’t think it’s surprising that others like myself would like to know why iPhone and not Windows Mobile?
August 16th, 2007 at 8:34 am
Any chance you can make it work on the Blackberry 8800?
August 16th, 2007 at 8:48 am
Often, these web apps use CSS3 and other trickery that isn’t supported in most major browsers, let alone phone browsers.
That said, my Nokia e61 has a WebKit based browser, and I’d love to give this a go. Would you mind opening up a url – like mobile.meebo.com – that anyone can test with any phone browser? We could then submit reviews of how well it works on which mobile browsers (understanding, of course, that this is mostly targeted at the iPhone).

I constantly use Meebo on my PC, but I’ve been using FlickIM for my iPhone, just because it has a feature where they’ll send you an SMS or email notification if you recieve an IM when the phone is locked or Safari is closed. That’s a niiiiice feature that you guys should definitely implement.

Hermann, the iPhone is selling like wildfire. The meebo team is smart to get on board early. The iPhone is the device that will eclipse the iPod in sales. I’m sure Windows Mobile will always have a place in the corporate environment, but the iPhone is gonna stomp it in the home user market, and thats where meebo is aimed.
Just wait till the holiday season starts… these initial iPhone sales are the tip of the iceberg.
August 16th, 2007 at 9:12 am
Why did it take the release of the iPhone to develop a mobile version of meebo? Why not a version that works in the already numerous web capable phones?
Opera is available for more handsets than the iPhone. Does this mean you’ll be refining meebo to work in Opera for the desktop and on mobile (I’ll understand if you can’t get it to work on Opera Mini) The browser on the Nintendo Wii and DS are both Opera based and Opera Mobile v9 (the paid-for app) is looking to support AJAX – meebo doesn’t work quite right in Opera on the desktop, videos won’t load, the pane in which they appear flickering annoyingly and meebo also has a nasty habit of crashing Opera.
Meebo already has competition in the mobile IM arena – Reporo, mig33, Yehba, MXit all J2ME apps that allow access to multiple IMs very much like meebo, although unlike meebo they do require a download.
Oh, and MacFreaks, just because hardware is not the iPhone or have the magic apple with bite out of it, doesn’t mean it’s unsupported. There are far more Nokia owners out there than iPhone owners as well as SonyEricsson owners (and UIQ owners, who use an Opera based default browser, not a Konqueror/Safari based one) and it’s not unreasonable to ask why meebo doesn’t work on these platforms.
I guess in short what I’m saying is this. It’s nice you support the iPhone, but make the existing iPhone version a Konqueror/Safari mobile version that Nokia S60v3 users can use… and support Opera so UIQ3 users can use it (and Windows Mobile users can download the far superior to Pocket IE browser and use it also
)

August 16th, 2007 at 9:34 am
Just open up the link to the iPhone client and let us see how it works on our Palm, WM6 and RIM phones…perhaps Meebo sees it as akin to opening the flood gates, but I don’t see iPhones taking over the phone market in the next few years. The holy trinity above will have phones that look and act like the iPhone in short order…and Apple will have to come up with another gadget. iPod has been cloned a million different ways and the clones sell for far less.
August 16th, 2007 at 9:38 am

Great job on the interface Meebo Team!
I’ve been using it off and on and it seems to crash quite a bit (even with a full restart of my iPhone). You might want to investigate the Javascript footprint – beejive uses a smaller footprint and is more stable.
It seems like the Javascript interpreter is one of the weak spots on mobile safari. Having said this, I think you have a leg up on the ebuddy and beejive variants once you can figure out how to work around the stability problems inherent in the browser itself – maybe it will go away when Apple finally releases their service pack for the iPhone.

Open it up, don’t restrict the interface just to the iphone! People with other, far more capable browsers would like the simplified interface. The Nokia 770 / 800 Internet Tablets would benefit greatly from this.
August 16th, 2007 at 11:35 am
Why must people always complain about the iPhone. Most of it is probably jealousy anyways haha. Also- if they want to develop if for another platform they will. Until they do, tough!
I would like to see a way to hide offline buddies however in the iPhone version, but that’s not terribly important.

Im frankly surprised by some of the posters here. People DO you even know what Meebo is??? Meebo is a Javascript and CSS enabled IM client that runs in a browser.
Now browsers on all other phones cant even display regular web pages much less support a IM client with JS and ALAX haha. People are so stupid here.
If you want a Meebo client for your phone ask your Manufacturer to include a REAL web browser not a crippled nasty POS browser like Mobile IE or Opera.
Then see what happens.
August 16th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
ALso the iPhone isnt a new platform its still web 2.0 programming that the Meebo guys are good at. To write a new client for WM5 or Palm would need complet new skills. Plus IM clients for those phones exist already.

MEEBO FOR WINDOWS MOBILE 5!!!!!!!!! or 6!!!!!!!!!!!… that would be amazing.. there arent any IM clients for pocket pc worth a damn… but if meebo will run on a pocket pc!!! that would be out of thos world… i have an 8525.. which i use to stream internet radio on the go and im people on bullsh*t im clients.
My idea for the hipsters version of a wm5:
1. Great IM client!
1.a. Im client capable of sendin voice and picgtures on the go! like agile messenger.
2. Winamp style media player capable of streamin internet tv and radio.
3. Integration into xbox live so that i can message adn recieve messages from my buddies.
4. New today screen interface with plug ins for all the main application liek IM, Music and anyother IMs.

First, iPhone doesn’t support downloads. Second, iPhone doesn’t support third party software to be installed (yet). So it doesn’t really matter which version of java you try to download, neither of them will work.

Firefox can do this easly via direct config hacking or adding User agent switcher and then adding This Iphone entry
Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1A543a Safari/419.3
you will need to figure this out yourself as Im not really wanting to make a tutorial

All the Nokia S60v3 users(and there’s alot of us) would love it if meebo worked on the khtml browser that is on our phones.
August 16th, 2007 at 9:26 pm
Nice work!
I, too, would like to see offline buddies hidden.
This may be too much to ask: notification of a new message when you are not on safari/meebo.
August 16th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
Any chance of, you know, sound working at all ever? If the app made a beep or other noise when a message came in it would be easier to use.
August 16th, 2007 at 11:26 pm
Hmmm … my comment arrived wayyyy to late
Just bought iPhone last weekend, loved it.
Tried meebo on Tuesday (14 August) and was still with the ‘classic’ web-interface where I can’t click anything to start chat, etc.
-> it whacked me!!!
Just this morning found out about the iPhone-enabled and give it a whack
Great job Meebo-ers!
Oh … this afternoon around 3pm, I walked pass Castro Street, Mountain View, while using Meebo I looked up and around and stunned that …. (I think) that’s your office!!!
Honestly I was having this week as my holiday while job hunting in Silicon Valley
Unfortunately I wasn’t sure which one is the entry to your office folks
Keep up the good work folks!
I really wish I could join this one great team

There’s some bugs in Meebo… (MSN)
- sometimes, images don’t appears and some other yes and an other day… they appear… asked buddies and they say, yes my picture is always on !
- Some buddies pictures, you’ve to connect to their profile to see the pictures… of course, you’ve to write once more your hotmail password
- Have always to click everyday to my picture to log into Meemo account to see my picture displayed (it’s not automatic)
- no webcam, no phone conversation, no automatic account log in etc etc
- Meebo is not as good as “AT HOME” as you said in your blog !

I cant believe that you made this for the iPhone! There are MANY more Windows Mobile phones out there and you simply ignore them because of the “craziness” surrounding the iPhone. I would ask that you focus on the larger and more prolific market… please I love Meebo, but why not Windows Mobile? Come on!

Hey I’ve recently tried out the iphone meebo app which I believe is an EXCELLENT idea but I did encounter a semi significant problem. I have my theme set to the onix design which I love but I can’t read whatever is written to me if they have black text. Other than that I love it.

August 17th, 2007 at 12:20 pm
Why Meebo will not work on other phones than Iphone
Meebo is a web application that runs in a browser. To work you have to have a browser that supports AJAX, JS, DHTML and CSS basically a full fledged browser.
The reason meebo wont work on any other phone is the fact that most manufacturers have browsers that dont support the technologies above making it impossible to make a web client.
Pocket IE and Opera cannot even do basic form validation in JS much less execute a full chat client.
ANother major reqason is that the main meebo applicaiton is based on JS, DHTML, AJAX and CSS. To make their application compatible with the iphone taken only minor tweeks. To make an application for Windows Mobile and Paln and Symbian would mean that the team would have to learn a whole new skill. Plus it would completely go agaist what meebo really is. a simple web application that runs in the browser.
If you guys want meebo on your phones start asking the manufacturers to invest money into a good browser. See the problem is that Opera and Microsoft make really really bad browsers. SInce you guys have these phones you now that you cant even access cnn.com without the pages getting messed up, so how can a browser like that run meebo??
Microsoft, Palm, SE please move off your asses and give us a real browser.
August 17th, 2007 at 12:39 pm
Hey! Great news! Now a Windows Mobile 5/6 version would be REALLY wonderful… *wink wink nudge nudge* PLEASE?!?!?
August 17th, 2007 at 2:10 pm
That is the dumbest idea ive ever heard of. who would want to use meebo when they could just get better aim, yahoo or watever by downloading it on their phone. i bet u it isnt worth it to hav meebo on an iphone. thats stupid. by the way the iphone looks like a piece of crap so if ur trying to brag that u hav one of those. no one cares. i hav a phone and an ipod i dont need an “iphone”
♥,
cool person
August 17th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
Quite nice, I actually just got my iPhone today, and this makes for an awsome IM client. There is one feature I would like to see though – the ability to have multiple computers logged into the same meebo account at the same time. Essentially, I want to be able to leave my meebo login session (eith msn, aim, etc) open on my desktop computer, but still be able to log in on my iPhone – so meebo sends the messages to both devices, and to the networks (msn, yim, icq) it looks like there is only one login.
August 17th, 2007 at 4:19 pm
I’m glad there is a new IM client for those few that may actually have the iPhone. What about those tried and true Meebo fans that have Windows SmartPhones (as evil as Windows devices may be, they number in masses)? Is it possible to adapt your iPhone version for another SmartPhone device?

Hi,
I like the new mini version but there does seem to be a problem with it connecting, or randomly disconnecting when connected. (Half of the time I was on EDGE and half of the time I was on Wifi)
Not sure if its the connection or the site just getting set back to square one. I liked it though when I did connect. Also, what happened to join AIM chatrooms?

I love meebo! I am a Systems Analyst for a college which keeps me moving from one place to another on campus. Meebo helps me keep in touch with my coworkers without having to lug my own laptop around or install software on other people’s workstations.
My wish would be that Meebo would work with Opera Mobile because that is the browser that specializes in small screen rendering. I run it on my Sprint Mogul pocket pc phone.
Thanks Meebo for all that you do!

In response to those complaining about people asking for this to work on the windows mobile phones, or on other pda style phones with formidable small format web browsers, I’m completely surprised that this came out and it basically only geared towards iphone users. We’ve had these phones realistically for 2 years or more with big web browswers and pop out keyboards, and mine I feel works fine. I played with the iphone, it’s cool, but from a business standpoint it isn’t too helpful unless I want to show someone how cool my automagical image flipper is. Some of us NEED the features of the other phones, and it’s sort of frustrating to see the public just hop on the iphone bandwagon.
In other words, a phone comes out that essentially blocks you (initially) from using addon apps, is missing some key features, and as of yet hasn’t had a whole lot of time in the public and everyone jumps. It’s a strange type of hold apple has on the public. I feel the same way about the ipod. Sure, it works well etc. but there were better ones out from other vendors for 4 or 5 years becfore they decided to say “hey, we’ve got this device that does the same thing but looks cool and guess what, we’re going to enforce Digital Rights Management so far off the deepend that “sharing music” is essentially a thing of the past…” and everyone likes it.
What I’d like to see is just something like http://mobile.meebo.com that is formatted for a small browser and simply make it so anyone that has a compatible browser can go to town…
August 18th, 2007 at 8:20 am
Just a heads up, those “Sponsered IMS” on the right hand side are extreamly annoying. First it was the meebo rooms crap, and now all this stuff. I really dont like meebo anymore. You have plenty of money from your investors.
August 18th, 2007 at 8:23 am
I like it. But how do I get it, and will it work on a PDA?
August 18th, 2007 at 8:27 am
hey i don’t know why but i’m having a hard time signing up with meebo. keeps saying problem with the network. says i should check my connection but there’s not problem with my connection. when i sign to my yahoo account using ur web application i have no problem. wut’s da deal?
August 18th, 2007 at 10:27 am
This is a great advancement for use on the i-phone. I was always a bit concerned that my i-phone couldnt IM, and wasnt expecting it to suddenly be possible!
I tried it out last night, and it took a lil getting used to, but works pretty well. The biggest problem I had (which I’ve had with a few other sites requiring log in) is it tends to dissconnect when I leave the browser…
But I’m very grateful for this new use for meebo ^_^
August 18th, 2007 at 12:19 pm

Ah-mazing dah-ling. Vwot can be bet-tah and more thought out? :-*
August 19th, 2007 at 7:58 am
As the MacFreaks sneeringly pointed out (and reminded me why I have no real time for MacFreaks) neither Opera nor Pocket IE support AJAX and therefore can’t run meebo. This much is true but have a look here http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/ and note the large picture advertising Opera 9 with support for AJAX.
I know you can’t develop for a platform that’s not out yet (does the DS and Wii version of Opera support AJAX?) but Meebo can improve functionality within desktop Opera 9 on the assumption that if you fix it for Opera on the desktop it will work in Opera for devices and the forthcoming Opera 9 for Mobile.
Other downloadable Multi IM clients already exist for smartphones and Java based phones. The only thing you can’t access from these other services is Meebo’s rooms.
August 19th, 2007 at 10:55 am
Another company jumps on the iPhone bandwagon. Why not go for the large market share that your large European market would provide…. How about a S60 app, or a WebKit formatted website?

re:geonorth
I like how you assume that iPhone owners are “MacFreaks”. Most iPod owners are PC users and that will most likely become the case with the iPhone.
Apple’s consumer electronics sales far out pace their Mac sales, leaving a large base of PC users adopting their products.
I’m sure once other browsers support these standards like Mobile Safari you’ll start seeing interactive web apps stat popping up for your handset.
Also…Keep in mind that AJAX and JS can be CPU intensive when paired…. and alot of these handsets you’re whining about are far from the task of running these processes at an exceptable speed.
August 20th, 2007 at 10:55 am
I love the new mini meebo, but I have one complaint: Why can’t we scroll back up and review our posts? Make it two complaint,
I can’t view the blogs either! Why? I hope this can be remedied because I love those blogs and it would really be great to be able to review your posts…
August 20th, 2007 at 11:21 am
Oh, I forgot to mention that by FULL JavaScript for Mobile Opera support I mean with AJAX. I think I was able to run Google Reader off of Opera, albeit not so well, because of the lack of screen space.

I’m a loyal meebo user and I love it’s simplicity and how great it works. It’s not resource hungry like apps that I run on my computer that manage all my accounts like *coughtrilliancough*. The new iPhone version is great and I like that it pulls up the history from my last conversation(s). I won’t say it’s perfect but it is going in the right direction. I’ve been using beejve mostly “ONLY” because it’s has a few things meebo is lacking. I don’t want point fingers and say…. “you don’t do this or this!”. I want to say that I much rather use meebo cause it’s an over all better app and I love using it on my computer computer and also at work. So I hope meebo will knock out a few more features and make the iPhone version as good as the home and better then beejive.

For all of us Windows Mobile users, please read what ‘mingistech’ and ‘Trideep Gogoi’ have said in the forums. It hurts, yes. We spent good money for our devices.
But the thing is, that nobody had come up with anything to meet our needs. They keep beating around the bush. Trying to centralize communication, but inventing needs for us that they cannot keep up with. Trillian had it’s day and made things tons easier, bringing IM networks closer together. ACT! had its day, linking documents to users. Outlook and Firebird, and some still use Eudora and other mail clients. Blackberry does a great job with keeping email, voicemail, text messages, and everything in a unified mailbox. But that will soon have it’s day soon…
We need something that unifies our contacts, stores messages to contacts, allows manageable customizable fields, and links certain people to certain groups (everybody to a certain business is linked through a phone number; family members link together living in the same household; members of a certain department linked together; project document and contacts linked to projects.)
We need a product to not change our life around it; but rather that it meets our needs. I believe in meebo’s potential, but they will have their day if they do not recognize this.

This is probably the best chat clients for the iphone. I can say its the best web brower based client so it’s only natural for it to be best for iphone. I haven’t gotten my iphone yet, but I went to the at & t store and tired out meebo on the phone and it worked great. Now I can get my iphone. Not having some sort of good chat client was kind of holding me back because I wanted an alternative to text messaging. I found it!

i was wondering that if we use this, does this count against our text messages or does it use our data package instead?

The iPod touch hit the Apple stores a little eary (9/14/) and I hope you can adapt the to the Touch Safari – I get the full meebo page, not what I get on an iPhone.

I second what NantasketJack77 said.

i’ve used it on the iPod touch and thinks it’s good. However, kind of like facebook, I’d like the option to choose between using the mobile version or the standard version. Is that possible?

meebo worked great on my iphone!!! thx =D
October 9th, 2007 at 9:41 am
I use both beejive and Meebo on my iPhone.
Advantages of Meebo:
1) shows when buddies are idle, idle and away, and away but not idle
2) you can set a custom away message
3) shows timestamp
4) shows when buddies are typing
5) shows if buddies sign off/on in conversation window
Disadvantages of Meebo:
1) The MAJOR issue is that it disconnects everytime i navigate away from safari. Beejive automatically reconnects and none of my messages are lost.
2) cannot view entire buddy profile/away message
3) cannot collapse offline buddies
October 9th, 2007 at 9:44 am
in addition, what neither beejive nor meebo have are SOUND OPTIONS. It would be really great if u can get a notification when messages are received!!!

Is there a iPhone browser emulator available where I could test my web pages without actually needing to buy an iPhone. AT&T Service sucks enough to keep me away from the iphone.

Meebo for more mobiles please! I like the iPhone a lot, but for sending many e-mails each day, I believe the Blackberry is a better device, with its dedicated QWERTY keyboard. I loved everyhthing about the iPhone I demo-ed, except for the soft-keyboard.
I think there is a large market here for meebo on Blackberrys. The iPhone is a great device, but RIM has a strategic advantage that will be difficult to replace due to the back-office enterprise software that makes this all work. The other mobiles don’t have this strength.
Please bring on meebo for the Blackbeery!

Is there a way to embed this mini meebo app in a website via html coding? I would love to be able to have it on my web page and login from there, by inserting it into an iframe or something like that.
Thanks..

Please put some effort into making this work on other platforms, specifically the Nokia / Symbian s60v3 platform. This is MUCH more popular than the iPhone at the moment, and will allow you to reach a greater number of users. In addition, the Symbian browser is also based on Webkit (as is Safari), so porting it shouldn’t be that difficult.
In fact, it already DOES work on my phone, but not perfectly–it disconnects every few seconds, and the interface is not really adapted to a normal non-touch phone interface. But it works, I can send messages, and sometimes I can even stay connected long enough to receive a reply! Just please invest some development time in making this work well. Thank you!

I am using meebo to provide real-time advice on my professional blog (www.bakingsos.com), but I don’t want to stay chained to my CPU all day long. I bought a Blackberry to carry my business with me, but meebo doesn’t work on it. I agree with the other users who have requested that you develop meebo for other mobile phones besides the iPhone. Thank you for your consideration!

August 21st, 2008 at 11:40 pm
so when if ever can we expect to see a meebo app? I for one hate the aim app and would much rather use something like a meebo app. although i suppose meebo on safari will do but having the native app is nice. might even be willing to pay a small fee like a dollar or so just so I could have my im clients in one app!
September 18th, 2008 at 8:38 am
Guess what? Meebo still isn’t compatible with Windows Mobile, the most widely used mobile OS… Can you get around to that one of these weekends?
Thanks.

November 10th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Hi – Can Meebo on the iPhone run in the background? Or does it close everytime?
December 4th, 2008 at 7:31 am
Are there any plans to turn this web app into an iPhone native app from the app store? I think a few people above have asked this but I have not seen an official response. The app store really doesn’t have a all in one IM solution that is worth a darn. Meebo would fill that need very nicely as an app.

http://www.meebo.com use today(December 11th,2008) can not be opened Opera9.27
Even before http://www.meebo.com has been used to open Opera9.27, today Opera9.27 can not be used to open, even with IE, FF, Safari, Opera10 able to open, I do not know why Opera9.27 not open.

I love Meebo. I got it mainly for my iPhone but now use it on my desktop as well so I don’t have to keep all my individual applications/windows open.
One thing I would love to see added to the iPhone app is the notifier you have for Windows desktop whereby you can see when you receive a message and when a contact comes online, even when you don’t have the app open.

I am pretty much of a Newbie over here at meebo.
That said, I would like to inquire how I can get a hold of your services on a Nokia N70 smart phone that runs in a 3G network because that is what is available over here in Manila, Philippines.
Any information on this, specially on how to configure meebo on my phone, I would be much obliged if you would be kind enough to Email me at sleep_heavy@yahoo.com
I will be looking forward to any ideas how to avail of your services on my phone. We run about 215 kbps on a 3G network over here. I would contend that that would be more or less up to speed to use meebo on my phone. The Iphone here in Manila is considered too Hi End since the gold standard on Phones here in Manila is still the Nokia.
I would prefer to use a Nok E-96 since the support services of Nokia is readily available everywhere here. That is just for your info. I look forward to hearing from you about this… have a good one.

What is the latest on the meebo iPhone app? I can’t find it in the app store nor can I find any current info on why it’s not out yet (now that iPhone 3.0 is out). I was impressed when I saw the first slides of meebo for iPhone, with push notification. I’m looking forward tO it’s debut and hopeful someone (maybe even from meebo) can shed some light on it’s status and ETA.
June 22nd, 2009 at 6:46 pm
^ What Bryan said. I’ve been more excited about the Meebo 3.0 app than many or any others, and disappointed it’s not around yet. I’m already seeing people suggest other apps with similar abilities that look well below the standard Meebo has set. News?
June 25th, 2009 at 4:23 am
How does push notification work wit this? I watched the demo at the apple conf and was impressed with it but cane understand how/if the push notifications work if it isnt an app and runs as a browser based service? surely a connection got to be kept open and on-screen to get notification and stay signed in?

This is so not the meebo application shown in the iPhone 3.0 keynote. That was an actual app, not a mobile page in the web browser. How is push notification supposed to work with Safari? The whole reason for you guys showing the meebo app was to show off push notification. lame. Oh well, I stopped using meebo a while ago, and IM+ does the same thing as an APP with push, also Trillian Astra for iPhone will be out soon, and it looks freakin’ sweet. You guys dropped the ball on this one.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
I was kind of wondering where the iPhone app was as well. I was thrilled to see you guys on the keynote really pushing where the technology was going – notifications so I didn’t have to leave my session open all the time (with no backgrounding for a meebo app or safari this was a godsend). But as time went on I never saw it materialize… not blogs, no cutesy front page note that Apple refused to accept your app, no reason at all… just a whimper and it was gone. (Though I see Android was privledged enough to get an app.) Sad that these things don’t get updated… they just disappear.
October 14th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
I love meebo on my computer but i do not like the mobile version on my iphone. Why doesn’t meebo have an iphone app yet? Upon the released of 3.0 for the iphone meebo had a spotlight to unveil the app and no app is in sight. Whats going on guys? would love to use an app for meebo much like the andriod received.. feels lefted out and disappointed
