Meebo has almost 50 people and they eat a lot! Do you want to know what we eat? I can tell you because I do the grocery shopping.

Most popular:

Fig Newton cookies – Regular, fat free, strawberry, and raspberry are all very popular.
Cashews – Always salted because it’s hard to find unsalted cashews. Trail mix with M&Ms is a frequent second choice.
M&Ms Plain – We finish a 2.8 pound bag each week.
M&Ms Peanut – We finish a 2.8 pound bag in about 2 days!
Bananas – At least 40 a week
Grapes – About 10 pounds a week
Cold Cereal – This is serious business at Meebo, with lots of variety. By far the most popular are all varieties of Honey Bunches of Oats; Plain, Almond, Strawberry (Mark so eloquently called them “dried fruit sponges”), and the Almond flavor wins by a small margin. Cheerios, Wheaties, Raisin Bran, Granola (reg and low-fat)—and occasionally I get a request for Cocoa Puffs—are also on the shelf.
Bagels – About two dozen bagels are toasted and shmeared each week.
Crackers – Wheat Thins are the most popular, followed by Triscuits. Ritz aren’t a big hit, and Saltines got stale before they were eaten.
Yogurt – After testing a variety of yogurts, Yoplait is the only brand I order. The team likes about 50/50 Original (the red label) and Light (the blue label). I think I’ve got Carter hooked on my favorite snack – plain old-fashioned oatmeal right out of the box (you know, the round box) smothered in your favorite yogurt. Yummy and healthy.
In the freezer – Popsicles are a nice summer snack, and for the more hardy appetites, Hot Pockets. Simon’s leftover ice cream cake was gone in a day. I think the ice is waaaaaay old.

And what do we drink to wash that all down?

Milk – At least a gallon every week. The 1% variety is the most popular, followed by 2%. I order nonfat for someone (they keep adding it to the grocery list) but that will be the last to go.
Soy milk – Plain, Chocolate, Vanilla. Someone asked, “Why do the soy milk drinkers get chocolate and the regular milk drinkers just get plain milk?” Because chocolate milk is waaaaaay more expensive (and we’re still on a start-up budget).
Tea – We have a wide variety of hot tea drinkers. Green tea, earl grey, non-caffeinated, blackberry, chai, etc. I think we have just about every kind of tea except Lipton. I once found “regular tea” on the grocery list. That’s like saying I want to buy a “regular car.” There are just too many options to call tea “regular.”
Soda – Not a lot of soda drinkers at Meebo. The most popular is Diet Coke + Coke Zero, followed by regular Coke. Mountain Dew is reserved for those very late nights. Most people drink water.
Juice – A gallon of orange juice or more is consumed each week. I’m not sure if they like the pulp or no-pulp version. I order equal amounts of each and it’s always gone by the end of the week. Someone likes cranberry juice and it appears on the grocery list every once in a while.
My favorite beverage – A glass of Mt. View’s Hetch Hetchy Valley tap water!

We do our best to recycle too. Everything we can recycle has a container. :)

Go have a healthy snack!
Mom (aka Jill of All Trades, Mother Bear, and Andrea)

I really don’t know how to say this, but reading this blog was the best thing I’ve done in a while. Reading the name and seeing the picture of the author, I had an epiphany. Mrs. Biondi?? I don’t know if you remember me, but I’m Devanshi, the little girl next door from Morgan Hill. And, I’m not so little anymore. I’ve been trying to get in touch for a while. I was just telling my friend the other day about those long lost days, and Alyssa. I miss her. Can you please tell her that for me? It’s wondrous how the internet can bring people together like this. Thank God for Meebo.

    Wowzers

  10. jez Says:

Wow. That’s a lot of food. I like drinking miso soup. :D :P

  11. BLC Says:

Fig Newton cookies – I forgot about them. They are soo good.
Grapes – I wish I got to add grapes on my grocery list, but they get vetoed.
Cold Cereal – Honey Bunches of Oats Almond is DEFINITELY the best cereal.
Bagels – I would eat an onion bagel smothered in Honey Oat (I think?) cream cheese EVERY DAY.
Yogurt – The only kind I’ll eat is the Key Lime Pie fat free yogurt… good stuff.
Milk – I thought I was the only one who liked nonfat! I can’t drink anything else.
Soy milk – I thought I was the only one who actually likes soy milk, too.
    Soda – I can’t believe more people don’t drink soda. It’s my #1 choice.

But that is soo much food!

  12. Nuin Says:

YAY TEA! Earl Grey is awesome, if you guys like that try Lady Grey, its one of my favorites.

Sounds like you guys are a pretty awesome office environment.

  13. amber Says:

For yogurt have you tried Breyers, it’s more expenseive but if you can find it on sale you can stock up on it. And “regular” tea i think means like the type of tea you get in the little bags (you know where you just put the bag in a cup or something and make it that way.)

  14. Danny Says:

Wow.. you people really have no lives. I don’t think people wonder in their daily lives what you purchase at the grocery store.

  15. Emma Says:

    *walks to cupboard*

*takes out Honeybunches of Oats with Strawberries*
    *eats*

    *munch munch*

  17. Kels Says:

No Frosted Flakes for Cereal ? Great Blog .. Enlighten it is

  18. Kay Says:

May sound healthy but it’s really not all that great, thats a huge amount of carbs and sugar in there. Light doesnt mean sugar free…and fat free doesnt mean low cal. And half of that has high frutose corn syrup in it… EW

  19. jibi Says:

how come u guys dont get fat as hell????????????????????seriously? also got a built in gym????????? or mere thinking burns that much fat?

  20. cheekynavigator Says:

wow, i will my company supplies snacks just like Meebo.. We only have stale biscuits and coffee that tastes like dishwater.. Yucks!

  21. The Nutritionist Says:

    Too much sugary food.

Bet you all got a paunch!

  22. Bassem B. Says:

Ooh, cashew nuts. Cashews are yum!

Chestnuts, almonds, pine seeds, and cashews are all great sources of vegetable fat (good stuff), preferrably without roasting or salting.

For sweet stuff, I try to avoid anything but fruits and pure fresh pressed fruit juice. I keep a tiny bag of raisins at work. If I can’t bring fruit with me (apples or pears or oranges etc) I pop a raisin in for a small boost.

Make sure to drink a full glass of water after a banana. Bananas (along with grapes and figs) should be consumed with moderation.

  23. Sarah Says:

You all have more food there than we do at home for a month.
Also my job never buys us that much. Occationaly they order a few pizzias, although I work overnights and theres nothing left and nothing orderd for us. we have vending machines, and they are nice enough to keep a microwave and plastic wear around. Working at meebo sounds like heaven.

  24. SKolja Says:

I would be very interested to have photos and weight summary of your team now and in 10 years running on this grocery list. :-)

  25. Nishant Says:

Wow thats a lot of food for only 50 ppl.

You have more food than we have for a month in a week lol.

  26. Dinesh Says:

Diet Contents looks good. Fruit and Fiber rich diet should be preferred over Protien rich diet .

  27. Brenda Says:

Wow I guess that was really nice.
But good luck to your team. I hope everybody is in good health.
Try to have veggie salad in your stocks.

  30. Runeatrepeat Says:

I wish I worked at meebo! Are you hiring? I would love to work at a place that had all those snacks :)

  35. Lee Says:

No coffee drinkers in the house??

  36. Tommyt Says:

I usually find unsalted cashews at the local health food store along w/many other types of nuts. As I remember, you guys are in the Bay Area, so health food stores shouldn’t be hard to find. Buona fortuna!

  37. Casey Says:

Wait, so Meebo pays for all that food for its employees?

That’s pretty freaking cool if you ask me!!!!

  38. Penne Says:

Glad to see some beautiful fresh fruit in the mix! I got turned on to Natalia Rose’s “Raw Food Detox Diet” at the beginning of the year (while reading reviews of Carol Alt’s book at Amazon,) then moved on to Dr. Doug Graham’s 80/10/10 Diet this summer. WOW, what a difference unprocessed, living food makes!

Dropped four dress sizes by just incorporating more uncooked fruits and veggies into my daily routine (2:1 raw-to-cooked) and no longer suffer from chronic sick headaches, fatigue and depression, to name a few of my former ills. Energy skyrocketed and I have a whole new lease on life, and then I discovered Meebo! It doesn’t get any better than this ;-)

Enjoying everyone’s blog posts here — thanks for keeping it personal and inviting us into your world. Hope you find a new space with spacious restroom facilities very soon!!

A lot of Poor People around the work don’t have this food for a month… Meebo people think about the rest of the word.

  40. Ramon Says:

Wow! That’s so cool. Fun environment, cutting edge company and with full cabinets filled with good food. Hire me, please! What you could do is, besides recycling the packages, you could also use glass instead of plastic cups and mugs, and also compost the organic waste. This way Meebo stays green 100% of the time.

  41. Lisa Says:

Interesting blog; it sounds like Meebo takes care of you guys (food wise at least). I like that you guys at Meebo are doing your best to recycle.

  42. MeeboBlogLover Says:

You know what’s funny? Every time I come to comment, I see all the people talking about how they hate the blogs. What I don’t get is why someone would take time to read/comment on something they hate THAT much. I think you should write a blog about why you write blogs and how they’re here to stay (yay!)…somehow I don’t think anyone who, you know, mattered, would stop using meebo. Snarkiness, aside…I also found this funny:

“I think I’ve got Carter hooked on my favorite snack – plain old-fashioned oatmeal right out of the box (you know, the round box) smothered in your favorite yogurt”

    I didn’t know boxes were round…

Okay, NOW i’m done being snarky, carry on. (long live meebo blogs!)

  43. Sara Says:

I just can’t believe you supply food for your employees!!
That doesn’t happen on this side of the country! (at least not for free)

I’d seriously suggest for health reasons (unless you need to build your immune system) to stop eating the fig newtons. I know they say all places have their issues, but the food processing used for fig newtons is utterly disgusting. I really mean it, the things they grind up with the food are disgusting :) I don’t know many employees who worked there in the manufacturing that would eat them. When you see a large amount of rats/rat feces get mixed into the food, it tends to do that.

  51. dave Says:

Hey guys – I wanted to comment about Fig Newtons!

Recently in my house we’ve started eating Fig Newmans – the newton knockoff from Paul Newman’s Organics line. Now, I’m not a vegetarian or anything, but I do like less processing and chemicals and such where possible – but I was blown away, Fig Newmans are SO much better tasting than the originals. I can’t decide whether I like the Low Fat or the No Wheat – No Dairy variety better (we tried a few of the different types) – but all I know is that whenever a package of them is opened, I’m unable to stop eating them. That never happens with original Newtons.

Cheers – sounds like a fun place to work; I’d apply if I weren’t on the east coast =0)

  52. madame Says:

    @Brandon: Yuck!
I used to love Fig Newtons, and feed them to my kids as snacks. Now I will no longer buy…

  53. Debbie Says:

Ha ha! I enjoyed reading your list. You are great snackers, with great tastes!

  54. corinna Says:

I thought Yoplait yogurts contained HFCS?? You sure are eating a lot of “healthy” stuff but still poisoning yourself with HFCS? Yuck. If I’m wrong, sorry.. I just haven’t seen a Yoplait label in awhile, ever since every single one had HFCS in it.

So..i log onto meebo…and theres always some lame-ass memo posted there to greet me. Hell, one of the last ones was about your womens room being down a long, lonesome corridor and you had to install a webcam to see if it was in use to save time. But seriously…why the hell do you people post this stuff? I mean, does anyone REALLY sit here using meebo and wonder what the hell you people eat in a week? I think not. Do you think we care about your bathroom needs? Im skeptical as well. Granted, im sure you would attract some freaks if you linked the live feed TO the bathroom cam, but thats another store.

So seriously, since someone obviously goes through quite a bit of effort to post these trifles, cant you put their time to better use? Have you nothing better to do with your capital than pay people to author a grocery list for the staff?

  58. Jill Says:

I thought this was a great add…like the personal touches you add…but I would definitely recommend Kashi cereals. Strawberry Hill and Heart to Heart Wild Blueberry are my favorites!!!

  59. Malinda Says:

BAGELS!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG! I haven’t had one in a long time!!! Now I feel deprived…

    *sob!*

  60. mel Says:

umm wow i need to work with u guys for like 6 months it would help me for my diet

  61. aoife Says:

it’s all great, tasty food, but i think you guys could have some healthier selections. tehe. =]

i agree – try kashi. it’s such a great brand. i always have boxes upon boxes of kashi snack bars, cereal, and crackers stored in my house.
you should try and incorporate whole grain cereals, and other whole grain products. while the sugar and carbs taste good, it will eventually have a negative effect on the company.

  62. Tracy Says:

All those Techies and no Coffee???
I’m a little on the health nut organic fair trade consumable side myself…
but no coffee???? I don’t think I’d survive it.

  63. Audrey Says:

wow. im really boredd. im surprised i just red thatt. well yummy. u made me want food. grrrrrr. im gonna go get some donuts. okay gooood bye

  64. Big Sparky Says:

    I wanna Job…Pleeze…?…lol…

  65. Rob Says:

Wow and I was happy that my new job has free bottled water and bagels on Friday!

  66. Paul Says:

…. Because chocolate milk is waaaaaay more expensive (and we’re still on a start-up budget)….

Do you mean Meebo provides all this food? My company doesn’t provide any food. On top of that, lunch costs me 4 extra euros every day at the restaurant whatever I order. Well my company employs 50,000 people so I suppose it’d be very expensive if they had to feed each and everyone. Lucky people who work for Meebo ;)

    Paul

  67. Tracy Says:

Wow, Rob.. a bit snarky doncha think?

I love that someone out there takes the time to put a face (and an office and a bathroom et al) to some of the technology we take for granted everyday. Makes it a little less chilly. It isn’t too much of a hardship to simply close that blog box, and apparently entertains enough of us to stay. So, bravo Meebo, and somebody set up an automatic feature that lets u turn off the blog for those who won’t take the time to close it, but will take the time to “mention” it. ;)

  68. Robert Roy Says:

Surprisingly enough since it is an office NO ONE drinks coffee????

  69. ElSalsero Says:

Sigh. I miss working at a software company.

  70. Carmen Says:

    i wanna work there! :]]

  71. George Says:

A suggestion to bring up for future plans at meebo:

    Connect to email accounts.

The first thing I do in the morning is open meebo and each of my email websites. I would love to open only meebo. Imagine a list of email accounts at the top of your buddy list with # of unread messages. When you click, a side panel expands (just as it does when you start webcam or games) with your inbox.

As for feasibility, it has been done, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mail2web for example.

  72. Kyle Says:

Lipton or iced tea i think is considered, regular tea. And it is what i prefer to drink than all the other fancy things.

I think a 4 door sedan coudl be considered a regular car

  73. Nelly Says:

You should stop feeding your employees diet food, are you trying to kill them?

check to see if anything has aspertame, that causes cancer, do your research!!

  74. Amanda Says:

To the person that said fig Newtons have rat feces in them. Rat feces causes an extreme illness that results in hospitalization and even death. If fig newtons contained them then undoubtedly many people would be hospitalized and the fig newtons would cease to exist. Plus with as long as they have been around I am pretty sure a health inspector at some point would catch this and they would be forced to clean up their act or be shut down. If that was all hearsay then I would make sure you had solid proof before posting things of the sort.

  85. Earl Blue Says:

“Regular tea” probably means black tea. And Lipton’s isn’t a type of tea, it’s a brand.

  86. Tina Says:

wow you are definitely a good shopper, and you guys at Meebo are pigs! Healthy though….

  87. robert Says:

“Regular tea” is Orange Pekoe, and Pekoe cut black tea. so its not like saying a “regular car” at all. almost every manufacturer uses this as their ice tea mix. someone needs some tea brushups. lol

  88. woooghost Says:

umm regular tea is a tea. called breakfast tea or everyday tea.

    Where is the beer?

  96. amc Says:

    are you guys for real?

  97. anon Says:

Yeah i can’t believe all that food is bought for the employees. We have coffee, tea, and hot cocoa mixes at my company. And lately we’ve they’ve been bringing in fruit for our monthly meetings. And like once a year we have a free meal. But all that food every week/month?? Wow. You ppl have it good.

  98. Col Says:

If I had a $1 for every startup that frittered away their VC funding on pampering I’d be lying on a beach taking in the sun. (and who gives out those $1’s anyway?).

Seriously – focus on your customers. *They* are the most important part of your business. Yes – your staff is important too, but build a winning company by ploughing every dollar into your customer experience. They’ll thank you for that.

  99. Rolihlahla M. Says:

Woah, that’s a ton of food!

PS. I just LOVE Meebo! Thank you!

  100. Jessica Says:

OMG, Okay.. Do you have any Kroger stores there? Or any store that Kroger owns? Here’s a list of the ones they DO own.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kroger You’ll have to scroll down to the section that says “Chains.” I know the parent company themselves always, always, always sells their chocolate milk at the same prices their D milk, skim, 2%, etc. sell for, and hopefully you can find one there that does the same! =D

  101. yllwdaisies Says:

When you say “except Lipton”, it makes me think that you don’t like Lipton teas, or think down on them.

I really love Lipton teas. Have you tried their pyramid bags?
    http://www.liptont.com/our_products/pyramid/index.aspx
Seriously, they have nothing in them except for tea leaves, dried fruit, cinnamon bark, & all natural stuff.

And they have a green tea w/ orange or some citrus peel in it that’s really good too. Give em a try.

    No, I don’t work for Lipton ;)
& Yes, I do talk up Meebo in the same way to ppl who use specific Instant Messengers! (I even have the meebo badge up on my site, I love it so much!)

  102. Elsehsah Says:

Oops, I see most of your list are among worst food lists. We had the same my office and got to change it completely with healthy and organic foods, drinks and snacks.

    Good luck!

  103. yllwdaisies Says:

Oh, & you can find any unsalted nuts (walnuts, cashews, almonds, peanuts, etc. in huge bulk bags) at any Indian or Middle Eastern or Mediterranean store.

They’re better than the salted versions b/c most salted nuts are also roasted. The nuts are often roasted in hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oil that introduces cholesterol-raising trans fats.

  104. jimbo Says:

No coffee!!!?? How do you survive on no coffee???

  105. tammy Says:

i like alot of the same things meebo likes for soda i like dr.pepper or pepsi but will drink a few other kinds.

  106. Jil Says:

    Wow-you feed your team!

i personally love these blogs and sure that many others do as well!
it’s very interesting. those who do not want to read it can just choose not too :)

  112. Prudence Says:

I noticed that nobody in Meebo drinks coffee. LOL.

  113. Elise Says:

I think it is worthwhile feeding employees, because satisfied employees work the hardest and they give back to the company… all of which makes for the great customer experience.

I have never heard of a company supplying free food for their employees on a daily basis. Must be a new thing. Most small business are doing all they can to make payroll every week. Wow! And yes….where is the coffee?…..with sugar free hazelnut cream please ;)

  119. Heathyr Says:

Hey, be careful with that yogurt!

About 60-80% of the population in American is allergic to High Fructose Corn Syrup — a cheap sweetener substitute for food. You can find it in… well… almost everything. Most folks don’t notice it because it’s got an ignorable reaction, for some people anyways… I won’t go into too much detail, but it can land someone in the bathroom for an hour or more. It’s often mis-diagnosed as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, if you get my drift.

You might want to check your yogurt and your popsicles — also any non-diet soda (pop here in Pittsburgh!) and even your juice! Even products that are marketed as “all natural” can contain this gunk, since it’s derived from regular corn syrup it doesn’t seem to count as “unnatural” even though it’s chemically altered.

Also, by cutting HFCS out of the diet, a lot of people feel much better in their day to day lives and start to lose weight. It probably helps that you drink less pop and eat less stuff that’s bad for you.

Just looking out for the Meebo team, and all the Meebo users who read my ramblings!

    ~ Heathyr

what a greedy and feral the American is,while the other world peoples suffering from hungry and your occupations and every day die .you are talking a bout huge quantity and variety of foods ..if you are believers in GOD, so wake up and prevent your government which killing my people..because your army is army of criminals and thiefs.and don’t be guileless as you now and before and cheated by your mass media and your bad licentious government..and as per i am moslem i red in my religion it is really this life just like the paradise for the unbelievers and for the believers it is looks like a jail ..so my advice is to read more about the fact of islam from pure source not from distorted one..Baraa

  143. Allison Says:

    Hi you all,

Some may not like what I have to say, but its a fact anyway. All the snacks mensioned except for the soda is actually good, but keep in mind that its not the amount that one consumes but rather what you consumes that makes one healthy. So the choices are healthy but hey remember too much of anything is bad. A balance diet is the way to go. go enjoy your quality be careful of the quantity.
This is Allison from beautiful Bellize saying live healthy and free, have fun.
